The Apostles is a warrior cats roleplay based in northern Wisconsin. On Lake Superior, the wild cats have made the Apostle Islands their home. It is on these islands - Rocky Island and South Twin Island - that the clan and tribe cats have lived in a peace and harmony that ebbs and flows with the tide.
But as the tides turn, so does the truce that binds them to one another; and as the water raises, a darkness follows, an evil that will end in bloodshed and violence.

Narrowed eyes wandered around the repetitive walls of his home. If it were up to him, he would've left this mess of rocks a long time ago. Sadly, it wasn't. 'Grounded' the apprentice thought to himself. 'All because stupid Adderpaw couldn't shut his trap for one patrol.' Now they're both stuck in camp for who knows how long, stuck doing gross tasks like pulling ticks off of elders when they could've been outside fighting instead. They now avoided each other for as long as possible, even going through the effort of taking different shifts just so they wouldn't have to see the other's ugly mug. The anger he initially felt had simmered down to an irritated spark, but all the time pent up had given him time to think on things. Too much time, actually. Trudging around camp all day had made Bristlepaw notice just how much everyone seemed to be obsessed with their ancestors, of all things. As a now adolescent cat, it was in his nature to question things; and question he did.
Even when they were allowed to go out again, Bristlepaw seemed consistently distracted. Though it had wholly consumed his thoughts, only one cat seemed to notice, or at the very least bother to look into it. And even she had taken a few days. He was hunched off in a long forgotten corner of the caves when she approached. The space he occupied was small and lonesome; perfect for when he wanted to avoid the more nosey cats. But the messy-furred tom was content in knowing none of his clanmates wanted to deal with him right then. A light pelt came into view, and he recognized the owner immediately. It would've been sad if he hadn't, considering they grew up together. Pearlpaw always seemed to know when he was feeling troubled - at least when it became more than he could bear alone. "Bristlepaw, mind if I join you?" To any other cat, he would've hissed in their face and stalked off to a better spot...but she was different. His sister was one of the few he tolerated, and even he didn't really know why. They sit for a few breaths in companionable silence. Her question hung silently in the air, both knowing what it was but not needing to say it.
The gruff tom takes a moment to find the words, before ducking his head and uttering, "Everyone here is always just going Starclan this and Starclan that, but I've never actually seen them do anything!" He almost instinctively lowers his voice before continuing, the sound low and growling, but tinged with something lighter and boyish that betrayed his age. "What if...they're not real in the first place? Just something they tell to keep the kits in line?" For the past few days it'd felt like he'd been spiraling deeper and deeper into a well of doubt, but finally saying his thoughts out loud seemed to give them a sort of tangibility that wasn't there before. "It would make sense, wouldn't it?" And while this may have reassured the tom, it didn't seem to be having the same effect on his sister.
Pearlpaw was stone-still, both body and face rigid as he spoke. The normally soft and open expression she wore was now replaced with something akin to his own, though slightly less angry looking. It felt as if the voice sounding from her lips wasn't her own in the slightest, as words and tone foreign to her replicated the fierce look in her eyes. "Bristlepaw...please. Don't tell anyone what you just told me. If someone finds out that you don't believe..." A more grim face than the last appeared. "Just promise me. Promise that you won't speak your mind on this at least." She bowed her head, but the weight of her words still got through to him.
The tom-cat was stunned to near silence. Never had his words had this much of an effect on her; not even when he condemned their father or called Adderpaw rude names in front of everybody. It was like an entirely different cat had taken the place of his sister for just those few moments. As green eyes began to peer up at him, he was jerked out of his stupor. "Ye...Yeah. Fine. Just on this though." Wanting to add a hint of levity, the apprentice quickly tacked on another comment. "I have a reputation to upkeep after all." The smirk crossing his face almost felt right, but there was no gleam of mischief or pride in his eyes today. This seemed to be enough for the oddly serious Pearlpaw, though, as a small sigh of relief left her. When she straightened to face him fully, the apprentice had seemed to come back to herself now. "Good. I'll see you later then? We can talk after I'm finished with my apprentice duties for the day." With his nod, she left. And just like that, everything was back to normal.
Normal, but...different at the same time. It was a hard thing to explain, but it felt like something irreversible and dangerously important had occurred in just those few minutes alone. It was the start of a path that Bristlepaw had unwittingly fallen upon...A mindset taking hold that would one day lead to his ruin. This was all unknown to him of course. And so, with a roll of his shoulders, he got up and continued on with his day.

Few cats are close to Bugpaw. After so many bad first impressions, the young tom has learned to distance himself from others. He puts up a cold front to anyone he doesn’t know, and tends to be suspicious when others randomly take an interest in him. He doesn’t see what they want from him, since most are warded off by his appearance and the stigma spread by his brother. He attacks them with harsh judgments and piercing words before they’ve even spoken. This obviously doesn’t earn him any friends within the clan, but he likes to think he’s past the point of caring…even if that's far from the truth.
Despite his actions, the bengal tom desperately wants to impress those around him. He doesn’t know how to act kindly around others, but still occasionally tries to make friends. He likes being around his clanmates, even if they don’t interact with him. But whenever someone actively engages in one of his conversations he becomes very excited. In his haste to hold their attention, his voice may rise to be louder than the rest, a string of words spilling from his mouth faster than he can come up with them. This tends to catch others off guard- a stark reminder of his otherwise prickly nature.
The young tom spends much of his time obsessing and worrying over everything, trying to plan it all in advance. This aspect of himself appears often, especially in social situations. It helps him keep his cool and hold a conversation longer than he would otherwise, but once things fall out of place he tends to flounder. On many days he can found out in the forest training alone or attempting to memorize the perfect way to catch a piece of prey, all in the name of bettering himself. He knows he’s at a disadvantage compared to others his age, and will do anything to gain the upper hand. Sometimes he becomes so focused on this, that he begins neglecting his health. Others occasionally have to remind him because of it.
To say he struggles with self-doubt is an understatement. He acts almost surprised when something he does goes right. After the initial shock wears off, a huge grin will appear on his face. He rides this high for as long as he can, since he knows it’s only a matter of time before he messes up again. If even the slightest thing goes wrong for him at any point, the young cat starts to fall back down a pit of negativity. He becomes closed off once more when this happens, thinking that they’ll laugh at his failure even if it seems unreasonable. He knows his actions are sometimes rash and uncalled for, but, as many young cats do, he refuses to admit it.
Closed Love Thy Family - Meadowkit, Birchsong, Maplebranch, and Lilypad. Amartia - Oleander Meeting and Kit-nap. And We Got Older - Birchsong and Cedarkit.
Cedarkit has a strong tendency to throw her weight around. If she wants something, she'll try and take it. She isn't afraid to voice her opinion or displeasure about things either. She lays claim to the best piece of prey even in the middle of leaf-bare, and will make a fuss if someone tells her not to. She’ll argue that since kits and elders get fed first, she has every right to take it. This may show the beginning of a more crafty side, one that focuses on finding loopholes within the rules that she refuses to go against. She likes telling others what to do, and gets especially pushy with her sister Meadowkit. Her bully-like attitude will only get worse with time as she doesn’t tend to face many consequences from her mother. A stronger authority figure may help to combat this one day.
Though Cedar works to get her way most of the time, there are some lines that she just won't cross. She'll egg someone on and walk all over them if given the chance, but she'll never draw first blood. Attacking a clanmate is against the rules, and Cedar holds the warrior code in very high regard. She feels extremely put out when she gets in trouble for starting a fight, thinking it unfair since she technically wasn’t the first to unsheathe their claws. She admires Maplebranch's bravery and tries to act like him sometimes, but it’s really not in her nature. She runs at the first hint of actual danger. She's still a kit after all, and will rarely put herself in actual harm's way.
In spite of all her flaws, there is some good to Cedar that shines through even at such a young age. The kit has a bit of a protective streak and looks out for those who’ve earned her friendship. This is especially true with her sister, who, despite the constant teasing, has had Cedar’s undying loyalty from the beginning. Only she is allowed to pick on Meadow, and no one else. If they try, then she'll very nearly claw their ears off. If Meadow is afraid or really doesn’t want to do something, then Cedar won’t make her. That same courtesy doesn’t always extend to others.
Appearance A sturdy short-furred brown tabby w/ yellow eyes. Littered with scars from his and Bristle's many fights. [break][break] Personality Spiteful, at least toward his foster siblings. Gives off an air of superiority and likes to talk down to others, similar to his mother. Notoriously difficult to work with, especially when he's around Bristlefur or his other foster siblings. Quite the tattletale as well. If he were to discover one of Bristle's secrets, then you can bet it will have spread through the whole clan by the next day. [break][break] History The only child of Vinetail and Braveleap. Was coddled endlessly by them in the beginning, but the whole family dynamic became strained after his five new foster siblings were introduced. The fact that no-one seemed enthused by this development only worsened matters. They still spoiled him quite a bit, but not as much as they once did. [break][break] Relation It goes without saying that these two don't like each other. Both vied for the attention of their parents, but only one got it. They tend to look at each other with near disgust, and try to avoid the other as much as possible. When they're forced to work together, it just ends with gnashing teeth and cutting words. If these sudden spats aren't broken up quick enough, then blood could very well be spilt. Disagrees with Bristlefur at any given opportunity, even to the detriment of himself and others. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired silver shaded tom with short muzzle. Resembles Bristlefur the most. [break][break] Personality Mostly open-ended, but shares in Bristlefur's aggressiveness. [break][break] History Firstborn to Timbertail and Pearlshine. After his mother died, Tangleclaw and his siblings were taken in by a reluctant foster family. [break][break] Relation The relationship of these two brothers isn't exactly an easy one. They're constantly seen at each others' throats over the smallest things, and seem to excel at riling each other up. The one thing they ever seem to agree on is fighting. Tangle/Needle is one of the scarce few who will readily agree to a bit of battle training with his brother, who's known for his less than considerate fighting tactics. Both tend to walk out with a few new scratches or scars to add to the collection. such training has led to a sort of comradery between the two, even if it's hard to tell at first glance. If they end up working side by side in a battle, their opponent stands little chance. These two know each other's styles better than most and can easily work in tandem. [break][break]
Appearance Pale, longhaired she-cat w/ green eyes and a short muzzle. [break][break] Personality Nice to the point of being seen as naïve, but is actually very aware of her clan's social structure. Dealing with Bristle so often has made her learn to be more assertive in conversation, but she never lost her kind way of speaking. [break][break] History Second-born to Timbertail and Pearlshine. Was named after her mother because of how similar they looked. [break][break] Relation The closest to Bristle. One of the few he actively protects and doesn't try to chase away. She's also the one that begged him to not make his disbelief in Starclan and Minnowstar known to the rest, so she's very important to his character. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired silver shaded she-cat. [break][break] Personality Though she seemed shy as a kit, this warrior has grown to have a much stronger temperament. She still has a distaste for crowds, but that's about the worst of it. This she-cat enjoys the 'finer things in life' - whatever that may be to her, and has no qualms with manipulating or guilting others to get what she wants. Sadly this doesn't always work since she wasn't exactly gifted with a silver tongue. Instead, she usually ends up half-insulting whoever she's talking to, intentional or not. [break][break] History Third-born to Timbertail and Pearlshine. [break][break] Relation Their relationship is an odd mix of snide remarks and insults, yet they're not repelled by each other. They even tend to hang out at times. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired silver shaded or silver tabby [break][break] Personality Is - or at least appears to be - a very devout follower of Starclan. [break][break] History Fifth-born to Timbertail and Pearlshine. What he's done in his life since then is up to you. [break][break] Relation Out of all his blood-siblings, Bristlefur despises this one the most. The thought of having someone so Starclan-blinded as his brother almost sickens him...They don't talk much. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired chinchilla or silver shaded tom with a short muzzle. [break][break] Personality Mostly open-ended, maybe contact/plot with Drift and Flurry's adopters if interested. Originally scornful of his father, but grew close after the death of Mistfall. His heart aches for the fact that his kits have to grow without a mother. [break][break] History Sixth, and last-born to Timbertail and Pearlshine. He became mates with Mistfall later on, and ended up having Driftkit and Flurrykit. Mistfall had always been a cat of failing health though, and passed away around the time their kits became apprentices. The rest is up to the adopter. [break][break] Relation They used to at least agree on how useless their father was, but even that has changed with time. Once a good - or at least tolerable - cat in Bristlefur's life, their differences have grown and started causing a rift between the two brothers. All that remains now is a stilted tension that won't seem to go away. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired lynx point w/ blue eyes. [break][break] Personality Pretty chill and open overall, but is currently grappling with his mother's death. [break][break] History Son of Blizzardheart and Mistfall, and Flurrypaw's sibling. Their mother was a frail thing, and slowly weakened after having them. She passed away around the time they were made apprentices. Their father tries to hover over them constantly now. [break][break] Relation Driftpaw isn't really Bristle's favorite. The apprentice doesn't seem to rise to the challenge when it comes to fighting, so they don't like to interact much. How Driftpaw feels about him in return is up to you. [break][break]
Appearance Longhaired point with a short muzzle. [break][break] Personality Quite sassy. A bit of a bully, perhaps? She's currently dealing with the death of her mother, so there's room for her to grow. [break][break] History Daughter of Blizzardheart and Mistfall, and Driftpaw's sibling. Their mother was a frail thing, and slowly weakened after having them. She passed away around the time they were made apprentices. Their father tries to hover over them constantly now. [break][break] Relation Between his niece and nephew, Flurrypaw is definitely the one he likes more. In a way, she reminds him of Palethroat. If she becomes the type to pursue battle and strength, then his opinion of her will rise ten-fold. [break][break]
