Alcor
rogue
huge black she-cat with yellow eyes
rogue
female
28 moons
Appearance
[283]
To most, Alcor isn't quite what comes to mind when someone thinks of the word 'she-cat'. She cuts an intimidating form to all but the most foolhardy of cats, which works quite well in her favor. Though a bit smaller than her sister, it doesn't change the fact that she could go toe-to-toe with a fox if she wanted to based on sheer size alone. Her belly hangs low, the hairs almost brushing along the ground as she walks cautious and quiet, pausing to meticulously scan her surroundings every once in a while. In the long stretches of time where the rogue is on her own, this is how she will continue. Once she lays eyes on another cat though, she quickly shifts to a arched figure spitting out insults left and right. Her short, fluffy tail lashing behind her all the while.
Her fur is thick and heavy, designed to protect against the bitter elements of her home. In leaf-bare it is a gift; In new-leaf it is a nuisance. Alcor's pelt is a simple black, but seems to take in a myriad of warms and cools under the right conditions. Her mane is especially strong, even in the hotter moons where it weighs her down.
Though her face tends to be obscured in the shadows of harsh light, there are points where you can make out finer features. Yellow eyes, focused and glaring. They never give an inch when it comes to showing her true feelings or intentions. Tall, narrow ears take in as much information as they can. Alcor's muzzle is a bit on the short side, but also rather strongly built.

Alcor isn't one many cats can get close to. Through no fault of their own, she just can't bring herself to trust any of them. In her mind there has to be an ulterior motive. The ones who don't take advantage of the weak, are destined to die as her brother did. You would think this mindset would make her a cold, callous cat with no care for others...but it's quite the opposite.
She was born with a kind nature, one that not even great tragedy could erase completely. Though her heart has hardened and her words have gained an edge, there are moments where you can see how she used to be. Empathetic, charitable, doing her best to help others...only the most defenseless and weak of cats have a chance of seeing it nowadays, the rest met with scathing words and bristled fur.
She has vowed never to kill another cat. To do so would put her on the same level as Mizar, who was the worst kind of creature. Alcor would still fight, yes, but only until her enemy could no longer defend themselves. It was still brutal, but a necessary evil in her mind. After they've been defeated, Alcor will either simply leave them on the ground, or carry them to whatever shelter happens to be around. Some would find this a bit contradictory, but it makes perfect sense to Alcor. Why leave a possibly dying cat out in the open where a fox might come by? Not even she would wish such a horrible fate upon someone. If they seem destined to die within the week and there is no sign of help on the way, then she may very well seek out a local healer. She won't speak to them; just dropping off the injured cat and running away.
Alcor is in a constant battle of distrust, and wanting to form a connection...Perhaps one day, the latter will succeed.
History
[1044]
- KITHOOD
Alcor started off life in a rather fortunate way. Both her parents were the loving, attentive figures you would expect them to be, and she even got two siblings to grow up alongside.
It wasn't all good though. To this day, Alcor has vivid memories of an event that terrified her in her youth. Specifically that of the long, jagged teeth that tried to snatch her away from all she'd ever known. Luckily her parents were there to stop it, driving the fox far, far away...But in her mind, the damage was already done. In the background she could hear her sister asking something, but she was too shaken up to listen. If only she had. Then, Alcor might've been more prepared for just how far Mizar's morbid mind would go.
After the fox, Alcor got a little clingy. Her sister's fascination with bugs was confusing to her, and so she preferred to be with her brother. He was far easier to get along with, and so they formed a close bond.
- JUVENILE
As they grew, their parents taught them all the necessary skills to survive. They learned to hunt, and even fight a bit eventually. Alcor wasn't a huge fan of the latter, though she was naturally gifted with a size advantage that all her family possessed. It wasn't that she was bad at it, but her mentality let her down. Perhaps she was too soft, but it just didn't seem right. Whatever future enemies she may come across, they all have lives and others that they care about...If she goes too far, then that's all over for them. Nothing could be worse.
It was around this time that her sister started behaving differently as well. No longer would she ask weird questions or just act, well...creepy by Alcor's standards. If she was being honest, she liked the change, and it seemed like the rest of them did too. It was a lot easier to get along with her after that, and they even became something akin to friends.
- ADULT
At fourteen moons, Alcor's world was shattered. As with most tragedies, the day started off rather normal. All of them were getting ready to start the day, save for Mizar who was still sleeping. The family was content...That is, until she spotted them. Alcor shouted in surprise, yellow eyes blown wide by what had appeared. Two foxes, the very same type of creature that had tried to snatch her when she was younger. Needless to say she was frozen to the spot, unable to make a sound as the carnage unfolded.
Her brother was attacked first, and she immediately feared the worst. Before it could land a killing blow, the huge canine was suddenly thrown off by their father. Not all were so lucky, though. The other had attacked their mother, whose screams had been quickly cut short. Mizar had burst out of their den at some point, horror evident her face. She had to have been overwhelmed. But unlike Alcor, Mizar acted. The massive she-cat threw herself at one of the foxes, holding it's attention while her siblings went to assist their father. He wasn't as young as he used to be, and it was obvious he was fighting a losing battle by himself.
With all their claws and teeth combined, they managed to drive off the two foxes. But what should have been a cause for celebration was entirely overshadowed by it's effects. Their father lay dying on the ground, no amount of healing able to change his imminent end. Alcor buried her face in his fur, dampening it with her tears. She vaguely recognized Mizar running up to them, having driven off the other fox by herself. But there was no time for her to say a farewell message as he drew his final breath.
The world didn't seem to like them very much though, as it decided that even this wasn't enough suffering.
More sounds of commotion forced Alcor to look up from where she lay huddled over her father. The scream that left her came unbidden. A stranger stood over the still form of her brother, with the now familiar sight of blood covering her maw. She looked straight at Mizar, uttering words that would forever stay in Alcor's mind.
"Now, we're even."
The unknown cat continued speaking. Supposedly, her mate was the victim of a gruesome attack, with their kits also dying in an unfortunate turn of events. She stated that Mizar's scent had been found on his body, and she'd been tracking them ever since. Alcor was horrified. She couldn’t believe that this she-cat was coming in and accusing her sister of murder, especially after having just done the same to their brother. At least, not until she saw Mizar unsheathe her claws.
“He had his claws raised first. I acted in self defense,” Mizar said. The widowed cat scoffed. She pointed out that he had no fur between his claws. His death hadn’t been the result of a fight. Apparently that was the last straw. Mizar leapt at the she-cat with a yowl, pinning her down without issue. Before anyone had time to react, she ended the cat's life in one quick motion. To say that Alcor was absolutely horrified was an understatement. She screamed at Mizar, calling her a monster before ordering her to get out. The thing she once called 'sister' simply shrugged, and without so much as a goodbye, left.
Many moons have passed since then, with Alcor now on her own. Her entire family gone in minutes, with the only other survivor turning out to be a monster that now stalks the land unhindered. She is terrified of the day that they may come face-to-face, and takes precautions to avoid it. The she-cat has lost any real aim in life, only wanting to stay away from the things that cause her pain. Hopefully one day, she will find a purpose. But for now, that is not the case.
