NEWBIE GUIDE
Step 1: Create an Account and (optionally) Join the Discord
Each player should create one account to post with all their characters.
We have a very active, welcoming Discord server and would love for you to join us. There you can discuss character and plot ideas, ask questions of the staff, tag other members in posts, and generally have fun. Joining the Discord is completely optional, but highly recommended.
Step 2: Recommended Reading
All new members should start by reading our Rules. These apply to the general forum, character creation, and relationships.
We also recommend reading the site Lore and checking out our Map. The Plot thread is another recommended read to find out what is currently happening ICly on the site.
For those interested in the long-term history of the islands, take a look at the Timeline.
Step 3: (Optionally) Reach out to a member and plot
New members may optionally reach out to our Peer Mentor group for guidance on creating plots and characters. Our Peer Mentors are maxx , moony , fallenreaper , Egotistic , and kaz
Reach out to them via messaging on the site or directly on the discord. You can also notify the members in the #character-planning and #plotting channel on the discord as well.
Peer mentors are all knowledgeable about the site, character creation, and current site-wide and individual clan/tribe plots. They can help you flesh out your first character, establish a plot, or answer non-staff related questions.
Step 4: Pick a Clan/Tribe or Go Rogue
Once you have a character idea or a potential plot in mind, it’s time to pledge allegiance to one of our clans or tribe. For more information on each group, please see the Clan and Tribe Information thread.
RedwoodClan makes its home in the redwood forest on the south side of the island. These cats tend to be tall and muscular and are good climbers known for their loyalty. They are traditionalists and tend to follow StarClan.
ThistleClan is found on the north side of the island. Boasting small warriors, these cats have sharp claws and equally sharp wits. They tend to be more atheistic or agnostic toward StarClan.
LichenClan is found on the east side of the island. Lithe and nimble cats, they are the most devoted to StarClan and known for their patience.
The Tribe of the Floating Stones lives on the smaller islands to the east. They are the most diverse in terms of physicality. Closely connected to each other and to nature, they believe in the Tribe of Endless Life.
You can also choose to be an outsider. Loners are cats that live by themselves, away from the Clans and tribe, and generally don’t cause trouble. Rogues are similar, but tend to be more dangerous. Kitty pets are very rare given the isolation of the islands and lack of human visitors, but have been sometimes found left behind by hikers and campers.
Step 5: Create a Character
Please follow this guide to create a character. Read the general application rules first. You can find the character application templates are listed in subsequent posts below. Please note that there are separate applications for clan/outsider cats vs. tribe cats. Tribe cats use a separate application form as their names tend to be much longer.
Additionally, if you find that you learn better visually, please check out this amazing Character Creation Pilot that maxx developed for the site. This tutorial runs through basic character creation on the site, including how to inset images into the template.
If you’re struggling with names for your character, check out the Naming Guide. Please also check the Taken Names thread. Duplicate prefixes are not generally encouraged but can be permitted at the staff’s discretion.
Feel free to post in the #character-planning channel on Discord to help brainstorm ideas. The members on the discord have a lot of resources from name ideas to entire face claim albums.
Step 6: Request Approval
Once you are finished with your application, message an admin over PM on the site or post on the #maintenance-requests channel in Discord and tag @maintenance.
Step 7: Start Posting!
Once your character is approved, feel free to create an open thread or plot with others to join an existing thread. You can also post a plotter or tracker (both optional) to find other characters to role play with. Patrols, training sessions, and other plot-related events are posted monthly and your character may be tagged to participate in these as well.
If you ever have any questions, contact a staff member via direct messaging on the site or discord or via the #questions-for-staff-channel.
Lastly, welcome to the site!![]()
