OWLPAW
LICHENCLAN
Stout, long-furred black tabby tom with orange eyes
apprentice
Tom
9 moons
Appearance
STATURE -
Owlpaw is, by no means, a small or finely-built cat. Though gifted with the same strong legs most commonly found amongst his clanmates, his strength doesn't just lie there. The beginnings of a bulky figure already show beneath his pelt, his body already rather heavy-set in comparison to those around him. Being the largest out of his littermates at the current time, Owlpaw often feels rather out of place, his late mother being the cat that exhibited his and his siblings' larger stature.
PELT -
Owlpaw sports feathery, long fur throughout his body, the darker colour rather uncommon, though a noticeable aspect amongst his family. Black, classic tabby swirls span the sandier features of his body, taking up a large amount of his pelt and making his fur seem rather dull against the richer browns he sports. His muzzle, chest and belly are lighter than the rest of his body, whereas his feathery tail mirrors the darker fur present on his tabby swirls.
FACE -
A particularly striking aspect of Owlpaws features are his bright orange eyes, offset by rings of pale green present around his pupils. His muzzle is broad and a striking white, his angular features hidden underneath his long fur. Owlpaw's ears are large in comparison to his facial features, with small dark tufts at their ends. Owlpaw's expression, however, is surprisingly not daunting, his rounded eyes making him seem far more welcoming.

TRAITS -
TRAITS -
Positive
|| Open-minded | Tactful | Patriotic | Reliable | Personable ||
A trait that Owlpaw very rarely feels comfortable expressing is his open-mindedness, a willingness to see issues from another cat's perspective and to sympathise with particularly vulgar, insensitive and unpopular individuals that would usually be denounced by others. Owlpaw is interested in opinions he isn't used to seeing, curious about issues of morality and less likely to jump to conclusions about others based on their beliefs. As such, he's tactful in conversation, respectful of feelings and beliefs, unless they are forced on him with the intent to change the ideals his father has instilled in him. Owlpaw has been raised to be patriotic, an avid supporter of his clan and clanmates, and is eager to prove himself as a proud LichenClan warrior. Owlpaw prides himself on reliability, be it loyalty to a friend or authority, or consistency in his abilities and behaviour. Owlpaw has a solid sense of action and is aversive to personal change as a result, hoping to remain the reliable companion and apprentice he assumes himself to be. Owlpaw is a personable individual who aims to be welcoming and sincere, with a somewhat businesslike manner that slowly turns into a friendlier, lighthearted demeanour once he befriends others.
Negative
|| Weak-willed | Hidebound | Mealy-mouthed | Ritualistic | Insecure ||
Owlpaw's open-mindedness is, however, impeded by his weak will. Though he holds conflicting opinions and beliefs to those closest to him, the disapproval of his father towards more controversial questioning as a kit has led Owlpaw to act amongst the norm in order to not be targeted. As such, he comes across as hidebound, rigid and ritualistic in his manner and highly reactive to direct challenges against his family's beliefs. Owlpaw's dependence on staying in the good graces of his opinionated family has left him overly defensive of conventional practice, and unlikely to openly support progressive ideals that he sees merit in. This is observable in his mealy-mouthed tendencies, Owlpaw uncomfortable with rocking the boat and thus not confident in his opinion or his right to speak his mind. Owlpaw's insecurity is something he often tries to hide in order to appear stoic and confident, though the young tom often finds himself in states of self-doubt and a belief that he is inferior.
BELIEFS -
To Owlpaw, StarClan has always been the figure of strength, support and steadiness that he aims for in his lifetime. Taught rigorously to respect the Clan in the sky above from a young age, the tom views StarClan as an unwavering entity that demands respect. As such, he attributes his success to StarClan, and is thankful to them for his opportunity at being a noble warrior.
GOALS -
Owlpaw's goals were predetermined by kin alone, his father eager to make both him and his siblings high-status figures amongst the Clan in order to regain the good graces lost by his late mate. Owlpaw has internalised his father's pride by aiming to be a respectable warrior, one that could be relied upon when others could not be. His main goal is to support the clanmates he holds great respect for, and to pay back for his training tenfold.
History
PRIOR TO BIRTH -
Owlpaw's father, Volefur, was a cat who didn't particularly stand out amongst his clanmates. He was low on the social ladder, no name for himself, and struggled to gain recognition. He wasn't one to do nothing about it, however, and from a young age he put in the effort to support LichenClan's cause, the majority of his work being joining in the endless cycle of battling with RedwoodClan.
His reputation, however, wasn't fully solidified until Volefur met Pikeheart, a molly from an influential family within the Clan who held the high status he so desired. It was only fitting that they should meet, both hard workers and large contributors to the Clan's workload, the two eventually fell in love under Sagestar's reign. Pikeheart was soon due to have kits during their romance, though it eventually became clear that the timing was poor.
KITHOOD -
Owlkit was born alongside Shrikekit and Merlinkit, the three large and healthy, and destined to share the good standing of their family. It was assumed that they'd inherit such a status, though once Minnowstar had become the clan leader, tensions arose on Pikeheart's end. The family she hailed from rather traditional in nature, the she-cat was more than disgruntled to find that LichenClan would now be run by a molly, instead of a tom.
Pikeheart openly expressed her disapproval, much to Volefur's dismay. His family not as entrenched in traditionalist values, his main concern was the loss of the leader's approval with his mate's constant challenging of her position as leader. Pikeheart remained adamantly against Minnowstar, and as her kits were weaned, she finally met with the consequences of her words.
Owlkit and his siblings didn't see much of their mother afterwards, the she-cat often being sent to skirmishes with RedwoodClan once more as a form of punishment, and in this time, Volefur took his opportunity to make sure that these kits acted correctly. Respectfully. From a young age, Owlkit was taught the values of leadership, the importance of authority and to never question it.
Pikeheart was eventually killed in battle, with Volefur denouncing her after her death, calling the molly a traitor, and doing his best to distance both himself and his kits from her. If Owlkit were ever to ask about his mother, Volefur would speak as though she were dirt, assuring the kits that as long as they listened to him, they would never go down her dark path.
When Owlkit and his siblings were old enough to learn, Volefur trained them personally as soon as he could, showing them how to fish, climb and hunt to give them an edge when they finally became apprentices. Volefur's dedication was focused on making his kits natural over-achievers, and he was strict in expectations.
APPRENTICESHIP -
Volefur's early training and the values instilled in his kits left Owlpaw in a state of stress and self-questioning, the tom left clinging onto those conventional beliefs that his father provided. After all, the questioning of these beliefs only brought him and his siblings trouble, and Owlpaw wasn't keen on setting off his father's temper with the many questions he used to ask about their beliefs.
When his training was finally facilitated by a different warrior, Owlpaw took to staying close to family, often checking in on his siblings and making sure they were meeting those requirements. Merlinpaw was an easy tom to get along with, at least in his eyes, and the two would start to train together on their own. When Owlpaw extended a paw to his sister, however, he was met with only frustration and backlash. Shrikepaw's jealousy was hard for the young tom to come to terms with, his concern for her only growing as she refused his help.
