Streak of
Shooting Star
Tribe of Floating Stones
red-silver classic tabby she-cat with orange eyes
prey-hunter
she-cat
39 moons
Appearance
Streak's frame is slim, but years of hunting have honed the muscles. While she wouldn't be able to hold her own as well as a stone guard, she is a sturdy force to encounter. Her fur is a pale creamed marked by dark swirls of tabby marbling stripes. Her fur is long and feathery. Her tail streams in a graceful plume behind her. While fluffy, the fur doesn't hold onto water when she swims to the smaller islands for better hunting grounds, while also bulking up during the winter months for warmth. Her face, while not as round as others, is also not as angular as the more oriental blood lines that exist. Slim, the rounded triangular features give center stage to her large, dark, brown-orange eyes. Her ears also sit large atop her head while graceful white whiskers frame her soft rose-pink nose.
Personality
Streak is known as a graceful and self-assured she-cat. She takes pride in her duties as a prey-hunter and strives to live well in her role. Her friendly nature allows her to easily fall into sweet conversation with most any cat. Her sense of duty leads her to complete the tasks before her with care and well. As long as all put forth the same effort, she knows they can overcome much as a Tribe. The combined work of the individuals in the community are what build the strength of the Tribe, and Streak lives her life with this attitude.
Many in the Tribe know Streak to be a chatty she-cat. Some would call her a gossip, but she likes to talk and what better conversation than the cats who live around you? A fault in this is that Streak will make assumptions of others based on the half-stories she is many times told. Her naivety in social trust can make it easy for other cats to mislead her from the truth about another cat.
Deep down, however, Streak has a caring heart. As she learns more about herself and the true nature of the world around her, her eyes and mind become open to her faults and she values living well so with time and effort she can change her thoughts and behaviors to be better.
History
Streak was born to a long and proud line of prey-hunters. Her parents, Turtle and Robin, raised Streak to be proud of her heritage. Alongside her two brothers, Flicker of Starry Sky and Gleam of Moon on Water, she learned the ways of her family. For each generation they had honed their skills in catching birds of the sky. A noble task to bring down a creature whose domain is not her own. Even as a kit, Streak knew she was destined to join the ranks of her family as a Prey-Hunter.
Then life became difficult. The strange sickness that had brought the Clans into their world seemed to hold on in suck a way that they could never escape. Her mother, Turtle that Shelters through Storms, had nearly died from the sickness. Streak was grateful for the herbs that healed her mother. With her family safe from sorrow, Streak's final To-Be moons passed quickly as she trained alongside her brothers. When the time came for them to advance to the rank of Fledgling, each of them went to Creek full of confidence to become prey-hunters. Creek agreed, and so Streak turned her full attention to honing her skills.
When the time came for Streak to be fully accepted into the Tribe, she traveled alone to the Stone that Never Ends. Flicker and Gleam made their own journey on separate nights. Reaching the isle, Streak instantly felt a presence. It was her first time on this island and she moved carefully to the cave. There she spent the night, entranced by the strange glow of the moon reflecting into the cave. The feeling of not being alone, but not being scared by that, remained with her. It was peaceful, and she knew that she was on the right path.
Streak became friends with many of the cats around her. She enjoyed the freedom she felt as a full tribe member and with the threat of the Great Sickness abated. As the warmth of the sun brightened the island and grew new life, a thread began to loom as coyotes built their ranks on the island. Then one day Creek called a patrol together. The speckled tom sent Sunrise and a crew of tribe-mates to the Clan, to give a warning to Finchstar who had shown such great care for the Tribe. Streak watched the cats depart, and thought perhaps they would never be seen again.
The next day Creek died.
Talon led as best he could. But he was a stone-guard trying to fill the position of both Teller and Hunter. The coyotes began to run rampant, more feel prey to injury or even death as they avoided the creatures. Streak lost faith in Talon's ability to led the Tribe.
Then the patrol returned. Streak was glad to see Sunrise once again. A competent leader for the Hunters was a welcome sight. Then Fog, a stone-guard who had been on the patrol to the clans, assumed the rank of Teller. Streak had already lost faith in a stone-guard's ability to lead the Tribe well, and as the coyotes continued to persist on the island that doubt grew. When Sumac began to whisper his sweet sweet words, Streak easily accepted them. Sumac was from another proud line of prey-hunters as well, Streak could respect that lineage easily.
As things continued to grow dire Streak knew something had to change. Then the fire came. The flames covered the island. Streak was able to escape to the smaller isles, but she went a full day before learning the fate of the rest of her family. Her father, Robin that Soars in Breeze, had been burned on his flank. The skin would heal twisted and ragged. But that was the worst of her families fate. Others suffered worse. Sumac had gathered the tribe after it was safe to return to the mainland, and told them of Fog's fate. Streak felt sadness for the loss of life, but she was glad to see one without the brutish nature of a stone-guard rise to become Teller. She did little to question it. As others began to call out against Sumac, claiming unfairness and bias, Streak ignored the words. They all had to make sacrifices to get through the winter, and the complaints did little to endear the Guards to Streak.
As the moons turned, Streak must soon decide if Sumac's faults will continue to be easy to ignore as with time the foundation of the Tribe and its values seemed to crumble around her.
