Mantisflame
LichenClan
Sleek grey ticked tabby she-cat with brown eyes and white markings
warrior
she-cat
47 moons
Appearance
Slight and sleek, Mantisflame is small for an adult cat, though not horrendously so. She carries herself lightly on her small paws, holding her head high almost as if to compensate for such a thing. Her body is slim, though still has a decent amount of muscle in her shoulders and legs to aid her in climbing through the stones and swimming through the streams. Her tail is ever so slightly shorter than normal, but given that the cat in general has a small build, it is nearly unnoticable. Her pelt is short and close to her body, allowing it to dry quickly if it ever gets wet, and is adorned with a ticked grey pattern, with white markings on her face, chest and down onto her stomach and paws. Her face is slim, with dark brown eyes standing out from her otherwise monochrome form.
Personality
✓ Passionate
Mantisflame loses herself when it comes to something that she cares about, and if you get her talking about it, then expect to be listening for a long time, as it would take her a while to run out of steam, or realise that she has been nattering on for an unreasonable amount of time. She follows her heart a lot, and lets it lead the way, and the amount of excitement one finds on there is near unrivalled.
✓ Agreeable
It isn't hard to become friends with Mantisflame. She may not be the loudest cat out there, but if someone took the time to seek her out and talk to her, or put up with her when she tried to talk to them, they'd find a cat true of heart, who is most likely to become a good friend given time.
- Mature
Being mature for her age, Mantisflame doesn't take things as jokes, and will look at most things right at face value. While this can drag her down a bit with the younger generations, and the apprentices, her maturity comes in well when she cares for the young in the nursery, and maybe when she one day gets an apprentice.
✗ Unaware
Mantisflame isn't the sharpest claw on the cat's paw, and if things aren't stated to her rather outrightly, there is a good chance that she won't notice it. The she-cat is rather oblivious to some things, and sometimes misses any implications that are added subtly to communication, instead of stated outright.
✗ Blindly Trusting
Similar to above, Mantisflame won't usually question what cats tell her. If the cat she is talking to is one she likes and appreciates, she won't give their words a second thought. This leads to a cat who can be lied to easily, and will be extremely unlikely to disbelieve anything she is told. Only when two pieces of information very obviously are in conflict with one another, does she finally give something another thought.
History
Mantiskit was born in a litter of two girls, with an older sister named Grasskit in the same litter. The girls parents were both respectable warriors within the clan, if a bit old, with their mother opting to be a permaqueen until she retired to the elders den. From young, the girls knew that their mother had had awful trouble trying to conceive, but neither she nor their father gave up trying, even though it put stains on their families reputations until the kits were born. To Mantiskit, this showed love, and the power that it had in keeping her parents together despite the odds. The kit had always had a romantic personality, but this affirmed it.
As far as her childhood went, Mantiskit had quite a tame childhood, and even apprenticeship. She never ran into much trouble, and stayed on the downlow - never attracting attention to herself. She learned that, with all of the drama within the clan, staying quiet was best. On the other hand, Grasspaw was a louder and more boisterous cat. As the older sister, Grasspaw had been betrothed, which she wasn't much of a fun of. Mantispaw didn't understand that, but at the same time... being forced together with someone was never a good thing.
Mantispaw met Viceroybite at the very end of her apprenticeship. They had trained together throughout her apprenticeship until he became a warrior, but never interacted much. Just a few days before her ceremony, Viceroybite was assigned on a patrol with Mantispaw, and the duo got along much better than expected. Outside of LichenClan's camp walls, Mantispaw felt free. No walls keeping her in, watching her every move. Plus, with Viceroybite bouncing off of her words and replying with just as much sass, it just... worked.
Mantisflame, given this name for the fire that she throws herself into everything with, became a warrior alongside Grasspetal. The sisters weren't as close as they once were, but they still got along, and Mantisflame was happy to share such a moment. It didn't take long for both Mantisflane and Viceroybite to fall deeply in love, and before long, the duo declared themselves as mates. Mantisflame chose not to have kits right away, wanting to enjoy warriorhood a little, and thankfully, Viceroybite respected that.
Grasspetal wasn't as lucky with her endeavours. She didn't get on with her betrothed partner nearly as well as Viceroybite and Mantisflame did, and as far as Mantisflame knew, Grasspetal wanted to try for kits straight away. Yet, as time went on... nothing. Grasspetal was growing frustrated in her anger and desperation, and her partner wasn't happy either.
When she was 28 moons, it happened. Mantisflame fell pregnant. She and Viceroybite was absolutely overjoyed, ready to start their family together. This didn't have a very good effect on Grasspetal, however. She had been trying for kits for moons, yet just as Mantisflame decided that she was ready to have kits, she was able to get pregnant just like that?! It wasn't fair at all. Mantisflame knew this, and she tried all that she could to console Grasspetal, but the latter wasn't having any of it. She blocked her sister out, out of anger and frustration, There was nothing that Mantisflame could do.
At 30 moons, she gave birth to three gorgeous kits - Flutterkit, Whistlekit and Mumblekit. Mantisflame was overjoyed - her life was complete. Her parents, both now retired to the elders den, came to visit their grandkits frequently, and Viceroybite adored over all four of them. Mantisflame was determined to make sure her kits had the best life possible.
Grasspetal never visited.
For the most part, Mantisflame had a quiet few moons. She doted on her young children, watching them grow up into apprentices with a shine in her eyes. What surprised Mantisflame the most, though, was how much she enjoyed spending her time in the nursery. She had always lusted after freedom and liked having independance outside of the camp. Looking after kits, raising them... it woke something else in her. She still loved her independence, but now, she wasn't going to hold off more kits on that.
38 moons. With her kits now 8 moons old, Viceroybite and Mantisflame together agreed to have more kits - it came as a relief to her, as Viceroybite had been drifting away recently, but now, she had him back. These plans were put on hold, however, just one moon later. Grasspetal's betrothed partner finally ran out of patience and denounced her as his mate, claiming that she was barren and out of StarClan's reach. Much to Mantisflame's horror, most of the Clan agreed. This wasn't fair! It wasn't Grasspetal's fault that she struggled to have kits, and that her mate was a jackass! Their mother had always struggled, hadn't she? Nevertheless, Grasspetal was snubbed by the rest of the clan. Wanting to reconnect, Mantisflame tried in vain to talk to Grasspetal. At this point, though, the she-cat wasn't having any of it. It was like she had decided that no one wanted her at all, or ever.
During the few moons that followed, Mantisflame found herself more alone than ever. Her mother passed away from a health issue, and all she had was her father and kits. Viceroybite himself had also drifted away, seemingly preoccupied all of the time. However, as time went on, eventually, things started to sort themselves out. Flutterpaw, Mumblepaw and Whistlepaw got their warrior names. Viceroybite came back to Mantisflame, and the duo fell for each other once again. Recently, they decided to start trying for kits again, given that last time it was put on hold.
Grasspetal still suffered in the background. By this point, though, Mantisflame didn't notice her. She had become a background figure, just like everybody else. She didn't want helping - right?
