STARLINGSTEP
ThistleClan
a black and white tom with pale green eyes
apprentice
tom (he/him)
15 moons
Appearance
Starlingpaw fits the saying tall, dark, and handsome quite well. He is a tad taller than average, and lays claim to the more muscular build known among ThistleClan cats. While he is not particularly broad-shouldered, his body has grown toned and strong through moons of training.
His fur is short but still soft, and he keeps it well-groomed. The majority of his body is black with some rusting on his back from sun exposure. This dark coloration ends at his belly, which is a soft white. He also has a small spot of white on his chest.
Starlingpaw's face is round with a smaller muzzle. His nose and paw pads are all charcoal grey. His eyes are green, pale, and unsaturated to the point that they could be mistaken for grey in the right lighting.

Personality
+: agreeable, allocentric, outgoing, caring, loyal, hard-working
- : gullible, aimless, dense, insecure, pedantic, unreliable
Starlingpaw is generally a pleasant cat to be around. He is kind and friendly and is not afraid to seek out new friends whenever given the opportunity. The tom is outgoing and agreeable, easily meshing with whoever he finds himself with. He can be particular about how words are phrased, specifically in regards to how other cats are feeling. If one does not be direct with their words, he often will not pick up on the subtleties and hidden meanings are hidden behind them. When his friend seems down, and his friend says that he's "feeling fine," Starlingpaw will believe him without question.
His dense nature also can make him extremely gullible. He generally believes whatever he is told, and rarely bothers to not trust others. He doesn't bother to question others' motives and instead follows happily behind whoever asks him to. While it is possible for him to make enemies with cats who particularly dislike him, it takes a lot of work to get on Starlingpaw's bad side.
Starlingpaw cares very deeply and wants to do all he can to make those around him happy and safe. He is extremely loyal to those he cares about and will do anything for them. Or at least, that's what he would like. Unfortunately, Starlingpaw has a habit of being unreliable. He gets distracted rather easily and can take on too many tasks at once. This leads to him getting some done late or not done at all, and he's very bad at organizing which task is more important in his head. While he puts others first when making decisions, he isn't usually the best at making good choices. Even when he thinks things over, they often go the wrong way.
Unfortunately for Starlingpaw, his greatest tragedy is his horrible luck. Whenever things have the chance to go wrong, they often do for the tom. This has left him in trouble plenty of times, despite his good nature. It is not unusual for him to be blamed for accidents. Whenever things go wrong, he blames the curse of his bad luck. What is even worse is that, ever since he was young, his bad luck has spread to those around him. Usually, this took the form of ill-timed pranks, but it was always enough to distance him from his friends.
Due to the curse, he struggles between causing others potential harm by spreading his bad luck to them or being his outgoing, social self. He doesn't want to cause others harm, but he also craves the security of friendship. This led to his insecurities about whether he is a worthwhile friend or not.
History
It was a warm Newleaf morning when Jacdawstorm and Juncofang were graced with the miracle of birth. Two tiny kits were born, both mirroring the coloration of their parents. Their parents, due to coincidence, were both named after dark-colored birds. It was a fun connection to do the same for their own children. The two kits would be known as Gracklekit and Starlingkit.
By the time that Gracklekit and Starlingkit had their own personalities and could move around camp on their own, it became clear that their natures were varied. While Gracklekit was intelligent and a troublemaker, Starlingkit was more easy-going and kinder. He also had a few more bees in his brain than his sibling. Most of what Gracklekit said went over Starlingkit's head, but the black and white tom enjoyed being with his brother regardless.
Starlingkit made quite a few friends outside of his own sibling as an older kit. His agreeable, easy-going personality made friendships come naturally to him.
When Gracklekit and Starlingkit became apprentices, there was a shift in Starlingkit's surroundings. When he was a kit, life wasn't very challenging. Occasionally he would get into trouble where he didn't need to, but of course, they were all accidents. As an apprentice, his increased duties and chores made his absent-mindedness become significantly more problematic. Not only that, but he seemed to attract particularly bad luck. His friends would find bugs or crowfood in their nests. They would have branches collapse on top of them, and step on more thorns than usual. Eventually, Starlingpaw's friends connected the dots. The reason they kept suffering was because of him. Most of his friends assumed that it was Starlingpaw that was doing these mean pranks. Despite his pleas of innocence, most of his companions left him, all Gracklepaw.
He was still a social butterfly on the inside. He yearned for more friends, to have a large group of individuals he could be with if Gracklepaw was busy. But everyone else ended up leaving him in the end.
When Starlingpaw was 8 moons old, Gracklepaw told him of his half-brother. Thunderfoot seemed a nice tom, but Starlingpaw accepted if the tom wanted to be left alone. If Thunderfoot ever decided to talk to him, he would be more than happy to befriend him. However, he also knew something about personal space and didn't want to force Thunderfoot to deal with something he was not ready for.
It was a rainy afternoon when Starlingpaw received word that his father, Jackdawstorm, had died in a skirmish with a band of rogues. Starlingpaw was devastated. He had admired his father so much, and his loss was something that tore a hole in his heart. He worried that it was his bad luck that caused his death somehow. This led to a strong hatred of rogues, something unusual for the usually agreeable cat. He liked to be around other cats, but he started to believe that rogues were not fellow cats but monsters.
Gracklepaw was certain that their father was alive, but Starlingpaw and his mother did not agree. They decided it was best to remember him warmly but to ultimately accept that he was gone forever. Gracklepaw's obsession with finding their father was sad in Starlingpaw's eyes. His brother's inability to accept that their father wouldn't come back only made Starlingpaw sad whenever his sibling brought it up.
Starlingpaw had always struggled with his apprentice duties. Any time anyone asked him to do a task, he always responded with a yes. However, his plate was so often full that he very rarely found himself in a situation where he could actually do his job. Because of this, he failed not one, but three warrior assessments. He worries that his bad luck will keep him as an apprentice forever.
On the eve before his fourth warrior assessment, his mentor vanished from ThistleClan territory. While a search party looked for his remains, they only found tufts of his fur and blood near the border. Assuming him dead, Starlingpaw was left to finish his warrior training with a new mentor, one who would probably understand him less than his previous mentor ever had.
