The Apostles is a warrior cats roleplay based in northern Wisconsin. On Lake Superior, the wild cats have made the Apostle Islands their home. It is on these islands - Rocky Island and South Twin Island - that the clan and tribe cats have lived in a peace and harmony that ebbs and flows with the tide.
But as the tides turn, so does the truce that binds them to one another; and as the water raises, a darkness follows, an evil that will end in bloodshed and violence.
Hey you guys! Chachy here, just thought I'd post this here for funsies! When I create characters I always have a bit of inspiration from other characters, and so basically if you sort of imagine your cats as a character from an existing piece of media, or draw from a characters personality or character arc to motivate your own writing, feel free to post here! It's something I do personally and it helps me imagine how my characters might react and helps me get into their mindset a little, and I wanna see if anybody else does something similar or can relate. Basically give me your character's kinnies
First off I imagine my boy Amber (that has eaten bugs) as Shoukichi from the movie Pompoko, it just makes sense in my mind hjbfjrhbfjh
Obviously, Venomjaw has Shenzi from The Lion King vibes, she has to.
And then lastly for my baby Burrowshine I draw from Amethyst from SU!
For Hawktail, she's like a reformed mix of characters such as Tigerclaw (from canon series) and Scar from TLK. Like... similar ambitions but not as straight-up evil and willing to kill their own family/Clan-mates. However, I don't typically try to align my characters with others from popular media so that might be a bit more difficult for me to figure out for the rest of them. Instead, I kinda envision them as representing different animals in personality. If that makes sense? For example:
Hawktail is the snake: clever, cold, will bite.
Willowshine is a golden retriever tbh: kind and emotionally supportive. SOFT af.
Rowanpath is like an elephant: thoughtful, gentle giant - unless you fk with his Clan.
Shadowface is the wolf: loyal but in a free-thinking way. will fight for what she believes in.
Cardinal is a [male] lion. Big cat energy: Natural leader and courageous, but aloof.
I'd say most of my characters have at least 3 different influences but I tried to narrow it down to who they're *most* like! imo
***Some of the influences I drafted originally in a vision board such as Snape for orchidshade. Some, were just pulled from at moments while others, I never really made any sort of comparison until now like Mako and Tigerpool. I try and honor whose closest to the essence but for example, the Mello influence for Slatestep was selected based on his competitive, whiny attitude and take-action approach. However, it completely neglects the lost and soul searching aspect of Slate.
Orchidshade- Harry potter, Severous snape I want her to have the face though of Nosferatu
Tigerpool - Legend Korra, Mako + Timmy Turner's Dad
Juniperfang- Neon Genesis, Asuka I would say juniperfang is definitely more mature than Asuka and a *tiny* bit colder on the temprement. She also has some influences of Blossom from the Powerpuff girls and Beifong from Korra.
Larchpaw- Naruto, Sakura Haruno
Leopardface- Hunter x Hunter, Pariston Hill
Slatestep- Death note, Mello
Mothfern - Fruit's Basket, Tohru Honda but smarter

It's funny to think about this, especially as when I attribute other characters into my own, it's subconsciously! I'll try to toss the ones I remember in here:
Creekshade is really a mix of things. It's easier to get in his mindset for me, though that comes at the cost of giving him any direct references to media! Soren is probably my first go-to, but there's definitely more hidden in there somewhere.
If you'll forgive my edge
Man's still developing and he doesn't really fit that mold anymore! No idea what he'd be now.
Blizzardblaze is a rather unholy mix of friendly but strict teacher and overbearing zealot, so his inspirations are often conflicting. On one hand, he's like baloo (Not the disney movie one, the anime one. Yes, they're different)...
...Buuut also Frollo.
Mind you he shares more differences with both than similarities, but it's about the best I can do so far to describe him.
Sorrelfeather's is a bit vague. He isn't much of a Yuri, but I definitely keep Yuri in mind when I'm writing him.
I'd also be lying if I said he didn't have some Edward Kenway in him too
And I hate to say it, but it's starting to look like Flicker's a biiit of a Jerry.
AHHH i love this i honestly never think of influences for my characters haha WHOOPS so this is more thinking after the fact so idk how spot on this is? but still hella fuN
idk if this is spot on but Robin-nose gives me some fun, snarky, mad Megara vibes.
Ruefeather isn't 100% like Zuko, but when i made him i wanted an emo bb and who isn't our emo king but zuko himself???
Personality-wise? YES Yewthorn reminds me of Han Solo a bit EXCEPT he's not skillful in battle and is a hoe (but wasn't Han??)
LMO the og Blazingstorm was based on Kyo from Fruits Basket, and I still stand by this.
she's still a bb but i wasnt adult Jaykit to have mad Temari vibes like all of her badass aunts
OK so i don't have a specific 'kin' in mind for Minnowstar, but lmao i do google a lot of bible verses for her and think mad cult leader vibes, so UHHHH ✌️
OK so maxx already stole Tohru but that's why Lav x Moth could have been... but Lavendermist is also a Tohru Honda bc DUH
OK ok so Hemlock! when i was tryna think of similar characters i kept coming back to this idiot and i feel it.
Blackbird is motherly and maternal but also a strong bitch, so i imagine some mad Sarabi vibes for her *-*
I don't think I ever make connections like this when I create a character, but I have made some connections with characters after their creation. Mainly when a connection like that occurs it's because I've found a character either in a movie or book that portray's a personality trait really well that I want to improve on in my own character. I can only think of two characters where I've made connections like that. I'm going to have to start thinking on the others because I definitely can tell a difference between the ones I have inspirations like this for and the ones I don't.
Cinderface: I want her to have the self-justified passion of Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame. I also draw inspiration from the priest in Katherine Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale for the way Cinderface speaks and has good intentions but is ultimately misguided, and that misguidance causes her to lead the people around her down a bad path.
Loudstorm: Haha, Loudstorm is my Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert. I also have drawn some inspiration from a couple of characters in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archives. I want him to undergo a similar journey as Kaladin of discovering how to think about the bigger picture and letting go of his mistakes. I also draw off of Dalinar Kholin with his battle rage.
fog that hangs in air ∙ loudstorm ∙ aspenfoot ∙ eaglefang ∙ leafdapple ∙ orchid that blooms by night ∙ sparrowheart ∙ froststrike ∙ shrikesong ∙ streak of shooting star ∙ clawkit
So. Here's the thing. A lot of my characters are not based off of others, but may carry some similarities. In general I try to base my characters off of character-types I have difficulty writing or don't often get the chance to pursue. Still, they aren't without their influences, and g'damnit, I wanna post in here anyway. So check out the characters, history figures, etc. that influenced my children. (if they aren't up here, they more than likely have no influence i could find)
First off on the list is Ratwhisker, my scrawny honker. I would say the first character that comes to mind is Fiver from WatershipDown, one of my all-time favorite books and a major inspiration for my writing today. In the future, I'd like to develop him to have more of Fiver's neurotic tendencies, but nothing is 100% set in stone (he's already kinda there anyway, so).
Second is Riverblaze, the stoic. Riverblaze actually has no core influence since he was a character that had been plotted in the past but never given the time to shine until I joined Apostles. Still, he could be related to Ramses from Prince of Egypt.
and Louis from Beastars.
Third is everyone's favorite golden retriever, Thunderheart. Now, Thunder's inspiration is a bit weird. Please don't ask. He was heavily based on Theodore Roosevelt's personality and ideologies. I just... really love Teddy, man. I really love Teddy.
Acornkit is another one of those characters that didn't have any influences right out the gate. The first person to come to mind with how she's developing now is Princess Mononoke from... Princess Mononoke.
Arya Stark from Game of Thrones
and Lyra from The Golden Compass
Primrose is one of the few characters I can say did have a source influence. She's based off of the character White from one of my all-time favorite animated movies and graphic novels Tekkonkinkreet.
Cinderpaw is another weird one. He started with the general idea of growing distant from one's family to pursue one's beliefs. His development is inspired by Annakin Skywalker's own in the prequels
Shrikepaw is interesting. When I created this character I was inspired by Cersei Lannister
and Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender
Jay... isn't inspired by anyone, really. The first thing that comes to mind is Robin Hood
A character y'all haven't seen yet, but one I'm hyped af to write is Whitefern. She's definitely my Mother Gothel character
and has some inspo from one of my favorite female antagonists, Maris Coulter from The Golden Compass
Flame, my tribe cat is another one that hasn't yet gotten the chance to breathe, but still a heavily anticipated character. He's based loosely on Tywin Lannister, a favorite of mine.
Another cat y'all will meet a little later on is Crag, a time-weary she-cat whose seen a lot in so little time. She's got some serious inspo from one of my favorite female characters, the conniving Olenna Tyrell (yes, I love game of thrones)
Another character who's in the works and much anticipated is my final boy, Hollowfrost. He's got very loose inspo, with ideologies that parallel Iroh
and... Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher series (the books)
Rootclaw has big Taiga Aisaka vibes what can I say I'm a sucker for a good tsundere
Omg I didn't even consider this until now but Stagflight is ABSOLUTELY Bambi's dad he even has stag in his name
Crowheart isn't done yet but I just finished the first Zero Escape game and now I'm inspired to make him like Santa...edgy boy who cares a whole heck of a lot
And finally, Leaf that Flutters Past! I see her as being eccentric and energetic like Lilo! But she doesn't have Lilo's anger issues lol, so maybe some Mabel too?
Candide (or Optimism).Life just sort of happens to him and a lot of horrible things are happening around him that he gets wrapped up in. He has the misfortune of surviving many of his loved ones and witnessing a lot of atrocities.
Rolo, Code Geass. I based a lot of his codependency and dedication into this poor fellow.
Terntail...
Ariel, The Little Mermaid 2. She's very worried about her daughter knowing exactly the sorts of horrors that she's going to face, but she knows that its her journey to decide and that as long as she's a bit more careful, things should be OK... but she'll absolutely sharpen her claws (slap on the fin again) to defend her if need be.
Mildred Ratched, Ratched. There are some other parts of Tern yet to be expressed that reflect a lot of Mildred Ratched's philosophies in life.
Raggedthroat...
Terence Fletcher, Whiplash. There's a lot of other funny sorts of characters that fit into Ragged's shallower surface bits, but to be honest... This right here is the most true and accurate depiction of him that I could find.
. Bear that Bellows by Boulders || Meadowfur || Rowan that Burns || Drizzlepelt .
Anyway, I was thinking that Tawnypaw has HUUUUGEEE Astrid (HTTYD) vibes as well as Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels. Huh, she and sabine even have family troubles together! Huzzah!
Paleflight...I guess is simliar to Agent Kallus from Star Wars Rebels. If he was younger, that is.
