Hawktail
thistleclan
dark red ticked tabby she-cat with pale green eyes.
warrior
she-cat
67 moons
Appearance
- smallish, round face with big eyes; tall ears; broad muzzle
- little v-shaped notch in right ear
- generally cold, neutral expression
- has a deep-ish voice
Hawktail was so-named after her deep, reddish-brown fur. Though it is a subtle difference in shade, her undersides are lighter. Her pelt would appear as one solid color from afar but, upon closer inspection, one can see the black ticks peppering her flanks. The only tell-tale sign that she is tabby is the classic 'M' mark on her forehead. The beige on the front of her muzzle and around her eyes is the only truly different color she has. Her eyes are a piercing light green, which both contrasts and compliments her pelt.
The she-cat has a physique that fits her Clan almost to a T; Hawktail is a good example of a classic ThistleClan warrior. She has a fine, short pelt. Though she is small, she has a lengthy body and tail. Her shoulders and forelegs are perhaps the most muscular part of her body, having lived in dense woods all her life. However, she loves to run and is very fast, so the rest of her body's muscles are well-developed too. It's no myth that ThistleClanners have long claws - and her toes are big and long to match.
Personality
Hawktail has a hard bitten worldview, toughened by her experiences. While some can persevere through rough times with an ignorant sense of optimism, Hawktail has chosen to learn from them instead. The one lesson that stands out? Other cats are not trustworthy since they are motivated by self-interest. It's the cold, hard, bitter truth, and Hawktail is no exception to the rule.
Her attitude is like barbed wire, pricking any who come too near and cutting those who dare to cross her. She doesn't have a sentimental bone in her body anymore, and would fight to keep it that way. Hawktail's words and actions have become very logic oriented rather than spurred on by emotion. When giving her two cents, it is often articulated in a cogent way. She is good at problem-solving in straightforward ways. Her words are as sharp as her claws, though, since she doesn't much care about 'hurt feelings' and she can be very critical of others.
Hawktail has her own ideals and thoughts on how things should be. Because of this, the way things are in the culture of the Clans doesn't satisfy her. It has caused a deep-seated feeling of restlessness. She strongly wishes to make changes in an effort to better her Clan, and will more often than not give her opinions when she has an opportunity. She has gotten better at the political 'dance', though, and has learned when to bite her tongue.
She strives for greatness, truly, and not just for herself - but her Clan. If only she could be dubbed with that ridiculous -star suffix... She could have it all in the pit of her paw. She would finally have control over her life, how it is lived, and she wouldn't have to let fools or cowards dictate it. Hawktail's ambition is something that clouds her judgement.

History
Minkfur and Dustclaw were very young first-time parents, and not very good ones. Minkfur was sick at the time of birth and barely had the strength to bring all six kits into the world. When only one kit had survived by the end of the first week, Minkfur could only focus on her loss and did not have much hope or feelings left for the last kit. Yet, when little Hawk-kit proved strong enough, her mother hovered over her every move. Hawk-kit found it annoying and stressful, constantly having to shrug her mother away. Sometimes it caused Minkfur to take her grief out on her.
Dustclaw wasn't around very much other than to say a passing 'hello' or bring them something to eat and make small talk, but he could also sense Minkfur's grief and bitterness. It pushed him away, and that only made Minkfur angrier. She was very harsh and cold, yet smothered Hawk-kit with her need to always be watching over her.
By the time Hawk-kit was approaching her sixth moon, she had had plenty of arguments with her mother and they were growing steadily apart. Hawk-kit strayed from the nursery as much as she could, and Dustclaw and Minkfur started to mend their relationship. By the time Hawk-kit was soon to be apprenticed, Minkfur was expecting kits again. Hawk-kit was surprised and not very pleased, but she decided to focus all of her attention on honing her skills as a warrior apprentice.
Hawkpaw was apprenticed to a warrior named Grayfoot, an older tom with a missing eye and no patience for sloppy mistakes. He was cynical, stern, and determined to make a good warrior out of Hawkpaw even if it meant making her train longer and harder. A part of him wanted her to best even the older apprentices, and he would often have her accompany the older apprentices and their mentors to 'learn' from them (or rather, compare them to her and see where she could improve). Grayfoot was, on the other side of things, very encouraging and proud when Hawkpaw did well. He sometimes showed a very nice, friendly side if the moment was right. Hawkpaw quickly learned to see past his rough exterior and harsh words, and not to mention her hide got thicker.
There was an older apprentice, Crowpaw, who constantly bullied her and liked to pick fights with her knowing she would fall for it. She hated him with a passion and took any opportunity to claw his face. Another apprentice, Goldenpaw, often stuck up for Hawkpaw if their older Clan-mates decided to chastise her instead of Crowpaw. Hawkpaw developed a small crush for Goldenpaw, and quickly befriended her. They were opposites in a lot of ways; Goldenpaw was sweet and demure, whereas Hawkpaw had a devil-may-care attitude. Goldenpaw continued to be her best and, at times, only friend throughout their apprenticeship. Hawkpaw grew more and more feelings for Goldenpaw that she often questioned and pushed away. She didn't want to risk the friendship.
Hawkpaw's siblings, Jaypaw and Honeypaw, were friendly with her and tried to maintain a good relationship, but Hawkpaw kept them at a distance because of her own bitterness. Her and her parents had a lot of arguments during this time, which did nothing but make matters worse. Hawkpaw began pushing herself even harder after a certain amount of time, and was always exhausted by the end of the day. She only seemed to be in camp to eat, bring back food or news, and sleep.
Right before her warrior assessments, Crowpaw was given his warrior name, Crowfrost. He found her training by herself in the forest and taunted her, telling her she would never be as good of a warrior as him. Letting all of her pent up anger out, Hawkpaw fought him - claws unsheathed. She managed to pin him and that was the end of it. He stopped being such a jerk to her after that, not having expected her to actually use her claws. When the two returned to camp scraped up, and their clan-mates asked what had happened, Crowfrost was the one who shrugged it off.
Hawkpaw and Goldenpaw were given their warrior names together after passing their assessments. Hawktail and Goldenpetal. Her younger siblings, Jaypaw and Honeypaw, cheered her on and for a moment she wished she could let all of her anger go so they could become friends. But as she searched the crowd of cheering cats, her parents were nowhere to be seen. They'd had heated arguments every time they spoke. It didn't surprise her and solidified her decision to keep her family at a distance for her own personal reasons.
Hawktail filled the warrior role very well. She felt more relaxed without her mentor hovering over her shoulder and instead pushed herself - which, in a lot of ways, she had already been doing. Because that was no longer necessary, the two actually became closer. Grayfoot became something of a fatherly presence in her life as Hawktail's own father was extremely distant and more concerned with his newest kits - yes, Minkfur had had more. Hawktail didn't even care to learn their names. She went on with her own life.
When Hawktail got older and more experienced, she received an apprentice. So did her friend, Goldenpetal. The two had grown slightly apart after becoming warriors, but when they were both given apprentices, it brought them closer again. Hawktail liked being a mentor; it made her realize she liked kits. Goldenpetal was also really good with them, and Hawktail's feelings for her became stronger than ever as she realized how good of a parent and partner Goldenpetal would be.
She just couldn't muster the courage to admit her feelings, as obvious as they sometimes were. Well, after their apprentices were given their warrior names, Hawktail made up her mind. That night, she was going to ask Goldenpetal to be her mate. Later on, Hawktail wandered into the warriors' den to ask Goldenpetal to go for a stroll with her, but she wasn't there. Hawktail searched everywhere for her, but couldn't find her. Figuring she had gone for a late night hunt, which wasn't odd for Goldenpetal, Hawktail decided to go find her.
She did, eventually, and it was near the waterfall that bordered RedwoodClan. Goldenpetal was with someone else, and it wasn't a ThistleClan cat. Hawktail was beyond hurt; she felt betrayed and so, so let down. She never confronted Goldenpetal about it, instead taking her anger the next morning and telling the Clan leader all about the forbidden relationship. Later that day, Goldenpetal announced to the Clan that she was choosing to leave to pursue a life of freedom with her lover. Hawktail spat in her face as a goodbye, and it was the nicest thing she could've done in that moment.
Since then, Hawktail has made it out to be very involved in the inner-workings of her Clan. She's kept others at a distance, mentored another apprentice, and made herself into a bit of a politican. She believes in harsher principles; doesn't much care about certain aspects of the warrior code. Hawktail believes a lot of things, but picks and chooses her battles. She vies for the ability to see those plans to fruition, and doesn't care how, but she does believe that the only real way is through climbing the ranks.
