FLICKERSIGHT
REDWOODCLAN
Longhair red mackerel tabby with green eyes
warrior
male
55 moons
Appearance
Just as the typical RedwoodClan cat tends to be, Flickersight is larger than your average cat. Though he doesn’t stand out in a crowd of RedwoodClan cats, he still stands taller than most- only a half to full inch taller than his clanmates on average. He is a heavyset cat, having well-built muscle covering his entire frame, and further lending to his massive appearance. He is not overly long, but his billowy coat tends to give him an illusion of such. Flickersight often stands tall when going about his day to day activities, and thus maintains his imposing figure through both demeanor and size.
Flickersight possesses the coat of a red mackerel tabby. The pattern of his fur is a pleasant swirl of lighter and darker oranges and reds, the former of which remains concentrated on his neck, chest, and paws, and the latter decorating his head, back, and sides. He has long, tufted fur, which sticks out in an accentuating manner thanks to its soft texture. His fur grows away from his face, concentrating itself down towards his chest and granting a mane-like facade. He has a tail which resembles a plume, feathered and down as it frequently waves behind him. Flickersight’s coat is thick from tip to root, further lending itself to his oversized appearance.
Flickersight has a face which is sharp, angular, and masculine. The shape of his face is best described as a rhombus. His cheeks are bony and well-defined, further accentuated in their sharpness by the tufted coat which frames his head, and his jowls are developed appropriately as expected for an intact male cat without being too large nor his muzzle too long. His triangular ears are average in size and set atop his head, blending well into the longer parts of his coat. Finally, Flickersight’s eyes are a gentle sage green; often glossy and calculating, but never conveying too much emotion.

Personality
Flickersight is a gallant fellow. He is brave and spirited, not often letting fear or apprehension get in the way of his words and actions. Despite his reserved nature, he tends to be polite and put others before himself, acting with courtesy when he speaks and moves around others. His loyalty to his clan and family come before all else, and this is shown through his gallantry not just on the battlefield and in political climates, but in day to day actions as well. He is also very practical- acting and speaking in a manner that is led by his head instead of his heart. Whether or not his head is the clearest compass is up for debate, but Flickersight does not acknowledge his emotions when making decisions (or, to his knowledge, placing blame). Furthermore, when combined with his age he embodies the practical essence of a skilled and adaptable fighter. Flickersight's practical approach extends beyond the battlefield, as he meticulously studies his opponents, strategizing with precision to ensure the most effective outcome in all situations. His practical nature is not only reflected in his combat prowess but also in his resourcefulness, making him an invaluable asset in times of both war and peace
On the less positive side of things, Flickersight can be rather resentful. He often finds something to point a finger (or paw) at any time things go wrong. He resents LichenClan for the drowning of his mother, just as he resents Flowerfang for keeping the truth of her fidelity from him, and as he also has resented his father for many moons regarding the end of the relationship between his parents. Most things end up leaving a bitter taste in his mouth, and the longer he survives as a warrior the more he believes that life truly is full of unfairness and uncertainty. However, not much can be fixed in the way of his resentment due to his awfully uncommunicative nature. Flickersight tends to make up his mind for himself, and this includes acting on his own accord without advising or listening to others first. He keeps opinions to himself, and is not often forthcoming with information- especially as it pertains to his own feelings. This is what ushers along the sort of “iron fist” relationship he has with his sister and children, and what further allows him to take another mate after the death of his mate, Frecklewing.
History
Kithood: Flickerkit was born in the new-leaf period of 2019 alongside his littermate and sister Flowerkit to loving parents Rowanleap and Duskshine. He is named Flickerkit for the orange and red hues that curl around his pelt and resemble the flickering of fire. Though his parents never truly loved one another, such was not privy to Flickerkit as the pair did their best to stave off their differences and raise their children as a whole, loving family. Flickerkit was a great deal closer to his mother, but still saw Rowanleap as a great warrior that he hoped to one day grow up to be like.
Flickerkit has always been the quieter sibling as compared to his sister, and others saw him as the broody, strong but silent type. He drew the attention of many of his peers from a young age despite not seeking it out. Amongst them was the cute Frecklekit, who sought his attention and playtime.
Just before Flickerkit became apprenticed, his parents split up. The sudden break up was very hard on poor Flickerkit, but he chose instead to focus on his studies as he entered into apprenticeship.
Adolescence: A loud-mouthed apprentice told Flickerpaw that his father had been sleeping around, and he began to heavily resent his father for the split of his parents’ relationship. Flowerpaw tried hard to get her brother to forgive Rowanleap, but as time wore on he only resented him more.
Early in Flickerpaw’s training, war broke out between RedwoodClan and LichenClan. He found himself in a skirmish with his mentor Brushshadow and fellow apprentice Frecklepaw. He protected Frecklepaw from another aggressive LichenClan apprentice and the crush she’d once had on them when they were both kits in the nursery playing together just deepens. The pair find themselves spending more and more time together, and soon enough Flickerpaw begins to like Frecklepaw back.
Adulthood: In green-leaf of 2020, he earns his full warrior name: Flickersight. The suffix of his name is granted in recognition of his stealth and espionage skills. His strategies on the battlefield become well-known for their unexpected, shadowy nature. Flightersight willfully refuses to fight among the trees, knowing that this decision likely is hurtful to Rowanleap. Shortly after he earns his warrior name, he and Frecklewing become mates. He is also sent to fight against LichenClan in the MoonCave, and though they lose the battle he is still recognized for his skill as he fought valiantly for RedwoodClan. At the end of the 2020 season, his mother Duskshine takes on a new mate, and he is pleased she’s moved on from his father and happy that she seems happy.
At the start of 2021, Flowerfang becomes sick and Flickersight spends much of his time by her side in the medicine cat’s den. They grow closer, and as a result Flickersight confesses to his sister that he and Frecklewing have struggled to conceive kits. His skills in espionage help Finchstar to pass messages and strategies along as RedwoodClan strengthens their relationship with the rebels of LichenClan. He is stationed as a sentry due to his recognized stealth. Finally, when LichenClan ambushes RedwoodClan he fights alongside his clan and wards off two warriors on his own. However, when he comes back to camp, he finds Frecklewing is injured. This dismays Flickersight not just because his beloved mate is injured, but because they must put off their dream of having kits together for even longer while she heals.
At the beginning of 2022, Frecklewing finally becomes pregnant with their kits, and in the new-leaf season she gives birth to three happy, healthy kits: Brookkit, Creekkit, and Splashkit. In an effort to both protect his children from the unsavoryness of his father and to additionally hurt Rowanleap, he forbids him from seeing them. Much of the 2022 year is unremarkable for Flickersight, as he focuses on raising his three children, tending to Frecklewing’s needs, and going about his warrior duties. Towards the end of the year, Flickersight fights in the great war alongside his beloved Frecklewing. The two become separated in the tunnels, and when he returns to camp victorious he learns of the terrible news: Frecklewing has been killed. Flickersight resigns himself to raise his children alone, and even distances himself from his longest and most valued relationship: Flowerfang.
As 2023 stands ahead, Flickersight’s grief ebbs away slowly. As it leaves, so flows in a sort of “iron fist” mentality towards his children and sister. He becomes fiercely protective and authoritarian with them, which only builds when Splashpaw and Brookpaw go missing during the blizzard and Flickersight risks his own life to find and rescue them. During the flood that nearly wipes out LichenClan, his mother drowns while trying to save a group of their warriors. In the wake of her death, Flowerfang finally confesses that it had been Duskshine who had cheated and split up their parents, not Rowanleap. Now Flickersight is left to face the truth alone. He begins to question what is the truth and what is a lie, and combined with the grief over the loss of his mother it makes for a nasty outcome.
Now, Flickersight becomes more reckless and bold. He stands firm, pressing a thumb to his children and their decisions, training, and relationships. He tries to keep them in line- “for their own safety”, he claims- for better or for worse. He is outspoken about ThistleClan and their stay on RedwoodClan territory, interested suddenly in becoming the antagonist towards the other clan. He also seeks to fill another gap in his life: finding a new mate to stand where Frecklewing once was.
