Loner
silver torbie main coon with bright orange eyes
loner

Appearance
Aster is a large she-cat. Maine-coon blood runs through her, making her tall and broad. Her frame may be larger, but due to depending on others for food she remains thin, almost gaunt. Her fur is medium length, splotched with patches of ginger and silver tabby. A pale, ginger blaze graces her nose, a thread of black lines her lower left lip. Long, wispy, white whiskers grace her face. Her eyes are a bright amber, always wide observing the world around her.
Personality
+caring
+observant
=trusting
-dependent
-fearful
The kindness of Aster's mother, and the example of Yarrowfrost, instilled in her a trait of deep care for others. Since she is limited in what she can do, Aster wishes to use her skills to help others the best she can. With her knowledge of herbs and healing she assists any who come to her for help.
In the moons after he injury Aster had to use her observation skills to notice ways to get cats to help her. Flattery and giving "fortunes", just words but said and given in a way to get the things she needs. Over time her reputation grew, and cats came with gifts seeking her out.
Aster willing gives her trust. She wants to be able to trust everyone she meets. However past experience has taught her not every cat is worthy of trust.
Aster is codependent. She relies on approval and strives to gain that approval from others. She yearns for recognition with the things she does. Because of this need for recognition she's constantly unsure of major decisions to make, especially if it is something that affects her relationship with others. She does things to make cats like her. In regards to her fortune telling, she strives to keep up her mysterious appearance because that is what others expect from her.
Over the moons Aster has become fearful. Her near death experience after her accident, broken trust with Lark, and the loss of her mother each impacted her. While she does well hiding her anxiety, she's constantly worried on how to provide for herself. Will she get enough business to get the food she needs? Will she say the wrong thing during one of her fortune telling sessions? Will she lose the trust she built with the loners who come to her? Will Peregrine turn into another Lark? This fearfulness also feeds into her codependency and need for recognition from others.

History
Aster entered the world with the falling leaves of autumn, when the flowers of her namesake were in bright bloom. Honeysuckle, Aster’s mother, was a doting mother. She strove to give Aster the best care she could give her. Even as the chill of winter settled over the northern cliffs they called home, Aster had little to worry about. Their two-leg home sheltered them from the driving snow. It’s four walls confined Aster so Honeysuckle felt safe leaving her to hunt in the neighboring dens where the small prey she could catch had settled in for the cold season.
Those first moons of Aster’s life, the torbie she-cat only knew the four walls and her mother. The hours when Honeysuckle would leave to find them food were nightmarish for the kit. Her mother would slip through the solid wall and disappear - Aster worried she would never see her mother again each time. But the queen always returned - occasionally carrying a fresh yet small meal for them to share.
Honeysuckle would tell Aster of the world outside. A world filled with plants, creatures, and other cats. A blue sky above and blue water surrounding. But these were stories to Aster - there was only her mother and her in the small world of their den. One winter day, however, the world changed.
Honeysuckle had left, as usual, to hunt for the tiny family. Aster - growing use to her mother’s coming and going - amused herself with what she found in the two-leg den. A clump of dust here, a rotted stick there, that cat there… Aster froze, her orange eyes wide discs as the stranger slipped into the den. The stranger seemed just as surprised, stunned into place by the sight of the little kit. The howl of the winter wind marked the passing of time, short and sharp, before the stranger tilted her head and smiled. “Hello little one.”
Aster flew away, heart pounding against her chest as she dived behind the dilapidated couch. Breathing fast, Aster waited for the stranger to leave and her mother to return. But the rustling paw steps did not ease her fright. The stranger crouched, looking at Aster, a gentle smile on her face still. “I am called Yarrowfrost. Do you have a mother, little one?”
“She does.” relief flooded through Aster as her mother’s voice floated through the room. The one called Yarrowfrost turned her attention to Honeysuckle, and Aster carefully crept from behind the couch and scuttled to stand behind her mother. The two she-cats spoke, speaking of things which Aster did not understand. Clans, cats, and strange plants that heal. Honeysuckle offered shelter to Yarrowfrost for the night, and the strange she-cat accepted.
That night Aster’s world altered. Yarrowfrost shared stories eerily similar to Honeysuckles. What if they are true? Aster found herself itching for the day when she could join her mother outside. Yarrowfrost left that next morning, but a promise to return left the kit confident she would see her new friend again.
Yarrowfrost visited almost once a moon. With each visit the she-cat taught Honeysuckle and Aster about the herbs she came searching for. Aster found herself addicted to the praise the Clan cat would give her as she helped locate and pick the herbs. As Aster neared her eighth moon she posed a question to Yarrowfrost. “Can I go back with you?” she asked before quickly added “With mom too?” She wanted Yarrowfrost to teach her more than just once a moon. She wanted to learn every day. But the ThistleClan medicine cat shook her head. “The Clan would reject you both. You are strangers and outsiders. They won’t welcome you.”
With her dreams shattered Aster watched Yarrowfrost return to her mysterious clan home. It would be moons before she saw the medicine cat again.
Summer was wet. It rained often. Aster and her mother were having to travel closer to the pine forest to find prey that had gone for shelter. It was on one of these journey’s that a ledge they had climbed up crumbled underneath them. Honeysuckle disappeared in the mass of rubble. Aster slammed hard to the ground, her back cracking and sharp, piercing pain shot through her body. She laid there, stunned and weak, for days. She drank water from the puddles that formed in the crevices of the rocks. She was haunted by the knowledge that she laid above her mother’s grave.
Finally Aster pulled herself from the rubble. The journey back to her den was arduous and long. Her hind legs barely cooperated with her. The sun had fallen behind the horizon when she finally crawled into the abandoned two leg den - body and heart broken.
The next three moons Aster barely survived. Occasionally a cat would pass and Aster would beg for food. On the days when she could pull herself to her paws she left the den searching for food. She never caught anything and returned exhausted with her back worse than before.
Winter settled in and Aster was a gaunt hollow of herself. She was prepared to die. And then she saw him. He was huge, foreboding, but he was approaching her den and the faintest glimmer of hope flickered in her heart. She pulled herself forward and observed him from her den. If he stayed nearby she could get his help.
Days passed and she came to know this “Curiosity”. He helped her, and Aster observed him closely. Gestures and mumblings gave her hints to things that would please him and keep her close. He helped her recover her strength and she made it through the winter. Despite their age difference Aster soon convinced the tom to move in with her. Their days together lead to a deep level of commitment. Aster found herself in love. They spent three seasons together. Occasionally Curiosity, or Lark as he one late night revealed to her, would do or say something that concerned her. Slowly these concerns built up and she soon felt unsafe around him. Then Yarrowfrost returned. Aster was overjoyed to see her old teacher. The medicine cat was nervous around Lark. Her caution only fed Aster’s growing concerns. One night, she knew she could not stay with him any more as his ambitions grew. She left their den, the home they had made together. Her back had healed as much as it could. While she still struggled to walk, she had adapted. In exchange for fortune telling (she had learned to observe Lark and tell him what he most loved to hear, and so she used this skill on others) or healing Aster received food from the loners that lived in that rough abandoned territory. Lark would still visit her, although they were short and rare. Deep down Aster still cared for the tom.
Then one day Lark showed up with a young tom. He was not even a full year old. Lark introduced him as “Deceit” and Aster was terrified at the plans Lark had for the kit. “If this is what you plan,” she told her old lover “I never want to see you around again. You have gone too far.” It was the last she saw from Lark - she caught only glimpses of him from afar from then on. And then, after so many moons of visits and gathering herbs with Yarrowfrost, the she-cat stopped coming. Aster doubts she will ever see that aged she-cat ever again.
Recently Aster stumbled upon a strange white tom - Peregrine. His leg was injured and Aster felt for him. He was young and deserved a life uncrippled. She took him in, cared for his injury, and they became friends. Peregrine cares for Aster and she provides company and wisdom for the tom.
The loners and rogues of the area spread whispers of the two witches on the island. One tells your future. One casts strange spells. Both can heal you of any ailment - at least, so they claim.
