Shadowface
lichenclan
fluffy tortoiseshell molly with green eyes.
warrior
she-cat
38 moons
Appearance
Underneath her deceptively thickset appearance, Shadowface is actually quite supple. She is a slightly big cat, in most respects, but her body remains lean. She has long, robust legs and tail. So while she is lithesome, she is not gaunt or lanky.
Shadowface's tortoiseshell pelt is fluffy and appears thick, unlike a lot of her longhaired Clan-mates who have fur that looks thinner. It's merely volume. Her pelt isn't truly as thick as it seems and, upon touching it, it's simultaneously thin and substantial. She does get a lot more fur around her neck and tail, and it flows quite nicely in most areas. Although, the hairs do tangle and get wild very easily - especially if wind is involved.
Shadowface is darker than most other LichenClan cats, her coat being so dominated by black that even the ginger markings on her flanks appear more brown than orange. It is a bit unusual for cats of her Clan, but she likes her looks.
Her face is elegant in a strong way, its features being very pronounced. Her muzzle is large and rounded, yet her facial features remain sharp. Her very green eyes are almond-shaped, but have a hard appearance. Her expression is often serious or even intimidating due to the specific shape her eyes and brows are in when relaxed. She has a voice that is feminine without being soft.

Personality
Shadowface is known for her patience and dedication, if nothing else. When it comes to hunting, she is the hunter that will lie in wait for as long as it takes for something to cross her path. She rarely returns from a hunt empty-pawed because of this tactic. Shadowface is normally calm and deliberate, thinking things through and really evaluating any given situation. She has an empathy for others' mistakes or personal challenges, which can be good, but she can also become too dismissive in regards to those mistakes which are easily correctable. Her patience also aids to a type of stubbornness in the way thatshe is slow to change her mind. She mulls over things so much that when she does make a decision, it becomes firmly planted and her mind is very difficult to change.
Shadowface is not the most talented warrior of LichenClan, but she has her own redeeming qualities and set of skills. Despite this, she has a hard time accepting credit or compliments when should be given to her. Most of the time, this simply comes across as her being humble. It's true, but it's not the only reason. This is rooted in a much deeper issue; she is incredibly hard on herself. Even if others believe she did well or perhaps exceeded expectation, it really wasn't good enough for her. She's struggled with this since her youth, and can't get around it. She is constantly disappointed in herself. In a way, it drives her to over-perform, but at that point she is pushing herself too far. When that happens, she often fails, and that is all the more harder for her to accept.
As far as belief goes, Shadowface is a devout believer of StarClan. She matches her Clan-mates in this devotion, but sometimes she simply does not agree with their prejudices or actions in the name of religious belief. While she is fully devoted to following the words of her ancestors, and gets very prickly when questioned about that, she creates a healthy balance between it and her own moral compass.

History
Shadowkit and her brother were born to a formidable queen named Spottedheart, whom Shadow bears a large resemblance to. Spottedheart raised her kits alone, never naming who their father was. This fact never seemed to faze the queen or, at least, not outwardly. Because of Spottedheart's gracious attitude towards that fact and her way with words, her kits didn't let it bother them either. Shadowkit did wish she had a father, but she didn't consider her life worse off without one. Her brother didn't even seem to care at all, which helped her get past it all that much more.
Spottedheart was a good mother, but when her kits were weaned she returned to a mostly normal routine as a warrior. She still slept in the nursery and spent her free time with the kits, but most of her time was spent on warrior duties. Shadowkit and her brother thought this was abnormal, and so did other queens in the nursery at the time. The other queens would 'privately' question Spottedheart about that, but all of the kits could clearly hear. It didn't make a difference, though; Spottedheart's decision was made. She didn't like feeling 'trapped' in camp all day.
Sometimes she would take her kits out of camp, though never very far at all, and show them around. There were a few instances that Spottedheart showed them how to hunt, which are all very fond memories. It sparked Shadowkit's love of hunting very early on.
But she never enjoyed fighting. When it the time came and Shadowkit became Shadowpaw, she was nervous. Her mentor was one of LichenClan's extremists, and very manipulative. Tigerfrost appeared calm, cool, and collected to others, but whenever Shadowpaw was alone with her, she would become harsh, mean, and too demanding. She was never satisfied with anything Shadowpaw did, and the young she-cat found it extremely nerve-wracking to train under such pressure. But to her, she thought it was normal and that every apprentices' mentor treated them that way in their private lessons. She thought it was something wrong with her, not Tigerfrost.
So when it came time for Shadowpaw to go through her warrior assessments, she was so stressed out about not performing well enough that she completely messed it up for herself. Tigerfrost was embarrassed for herself, and furious with Shadowpaw. So much so, that she exploded on the apprentice in front of the leader and deputy, launching into a full verbal assault.
When such behavior was witnessed by the high ranks of LichenClan, Tigerfrost was immediately let go of her responsibilities as mentor and punished accordingly. Shadowpaw was shocked, having thought that Tigerfrost was justified in her anger.
A senior warrior was then assigned to observe the skills she had and determine if she was ready to become a warrior. Briarfur was his name, and he was completely different from Tigerfrost. He was kind, patient, and most of all let her know that it was okay to make mistakes. While Shadowpaw was so used to the complete opposite and had a hard time letting go, it allowed her to relax. When that happened, she could actually concentrate and she performed very well. She was given a second chance at her assessments a few days later and passed, earning her warrior name.
Shadowface was relieved to have become a warrior even though Tigerfrost would often shoot her glares every morning. She learned to ignore her mentor and avoided her if she could. She found warriorhood to be fun and freeing, but also important. She immersed herself in taking care of LichenClan and being faithful to StarClan, especially since she wasn't so busy being badgered by a foxhearted mentor. She kept finding a sense of comfort in her religion and having ancestors to watch over the Clans, so it was something that came naturally to her - even if LichenClan is especially religious.
Her skills didn't take long to shine and she soon became recognized for her good hunting abilities and practices. She especially liked being able to hunt alongside her mother, Spottedheart, whenever they pleased.
About a year after becoming a warrior, Shadowface's brother announced to her and Spottedheart that he was going to be a father. Spottedheart was happy for him, but cautious. Shadowface didn't know what to think. He was so young, she wondered if he had thought it through. But he seemed keen on becoming a father, so she let her worries go and found herself sharing his excitement. She wondered what it would be like to be an aunt.
The kits were born in the dead of leafbare and, in spite of the medicine cat doing everything they could to prevent it, the queen and kits became very sick. Their health and strength deteriorated and they passed away a few days after the litter was born.
Shadowface was devastated, but she couldn't begin to fathom how her brother felt. She tried to comfort him and offer a shoulder to lean on, but he pushed her away. He's remained distant from his family since then, in spite of their attempts to be there for him. Shadowface remains patient and understanding, though she can't help but feel deeply depressed about it.
Shadowface grows increasingly concerned about the leader of LichenClan and the direction she is taking the Clan. She does not agree with the extremist views, or keeping the Mooncave from the other Clans. Even if they didn't deserve to go there, she doesn't feel that it is something they have the right to decide. She remains quiet but anxious about the change that looms on the horizon.
