OtterPAW
thistleclan
dark chocolate seal point tom with icy blue eyes
apprentice
Tom
7 moons
Appearance
A well-structured tom with an athletic build, Otter has a broad skull and a slim, yet far from scrawny slenderness that helps him move more swiftly. He is cloaked in a veil of umber that grows darker towards his extremities until almost becoming black. This same color covers his face and ears, becoming as dark as his obsidian-hued nose at the centerpoint. He would have no trouble being one with the shadows if it weren't for the two spherical chasms of cerulean perched above long feathered whiskers.
Personality
Otter is a rather interesting creature and would be described by others as mildly unpredictable. The first thing one might notice upon meeting this young tom is his stoic shell. He is an independent tom who has a surprising amount of self-control over his emotions for his young age. He has a sense of confidence in his work that few could match, which is quite necessary since he is constantly under criticism from his father. He often prefers to keep himself company and shares little with others. It is not out of the ordinary to find him roaming camp at odd hours of the night when most are sleeping. During the daylight hours he prefers to keep to the edge of camp- listening in the shadows and tall pine canopies to gather bits of information here and there. In the nursery, the tom was described as mischievous and this reputation is only sure to grow as he begins his training and the freedoms that come along with aging. His sharp and sarcastic tongue causes him to come across as abrasive and even belittling at times. Like many in his clan, his belief in Starclan is weak and he resents the structure and rigidity of the warrior code. Not that the young tom is malicious, he simply wants to due what he wants, when he wants.
History
Otterkit was born to first-time parents Poppyfrost and Swallowtooth on a stormy new-leaf night in the Thistleclan nursery. The birth quickly took a troubling turn and lasted into the early hours of the morning. When the first rays of sunlight shone, all four kits had been delivered thanks to the help of the medicine cat, Ratwhisker. To the couples dismay, two kits were stillborn, leaving them with only half the litter they expected. Otterkit was named for the color of his deep brown pelt and Shadekit, the runt, was named for his onyx fur.
The loss of two of her kits proved too much for Poppyfrost to handle and she slipped away into a dark depression. She grew distant and did little to tend to her newborn sons. It wasn't long before the other queens stepped in tend to Otterkit and Shadekit. Ratwhisker kept a watchful eye of Poppyfrost's condition but there was little improvement even by the time the kits were ready to be weaned. Swallowtooth was also affected by the unprecedented results of his mate's birth. His dream for a large family had been shattered and he grew cold. Although not apparent to Otterkit at the time, but his father showed great preference to him over his brother. Swallow directed his misplaced anger at Shadekit and grew to resent the small, timid tom.
Without the supervision of a doting mother, the two little toms found plenty time to kick up whatever trouble they could find. Shadekit had been better at making friends and spent most of him time with the other kits. Otterkit on the other hand was much more of a loner. The only time he enjoyed socializing was went play sparring or teasing his brother was involved. Countless times he was caught sneaking out of the nursery, or even trying to slip out of the camp. He enjoyed spying on the warriors and apprentices and didn't have time for the silly kit-tales from the queens and elders.
At six moons it was time for the brother to become apprentices. Now known as Otterpaw, the chocolate tom was thrilled to be free from the bore of the nursery. He was less content with all of the responsibilities that came along with training.
