The first sting of the morning pained Finchstar into consciousness as the sun was beginning to end its climactic entrance into the skies. The tom was still getting used his altered vision, and waking up with one eye still lost in darkness gave him a little jolt every single dawn. Of course, this was just one brutal reminder of the loss his Clan suffered in their battle before the gathering.
As Finchstar's eye adjusted to the dim corners of his den, he found a disheartened pile of cobwebs littered on the ground in front of his paws. Delicately rubbing the still healing wound on his face, he flinched at his unsuccessful itch, realizing all the cushiony protection Orchidshade applied must have all fell off during his sleep. And now that Finchstar was taking a full gander at his surroundings, it looked like cobweb had been strewn around him in a clumsy circle. Either someone had pulled a heartless prank on him while he was asleep, or he did some serious tossing and turning last night.
Whatever the case, he would clean it up later, as well as have Orchidshade clean up his face. Right now, there was business to attend to. With heavy paws but a determined stride, Finchstar slipped out of his den, making quick bounds up to his trusty ledge. No spot near the waterfall could compare to the familiar ridges and edges of his addressing spot here.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the High Rock for a Clan meeting."
In contrast to the warrior ceremony before the battle with Minnowstar, things were much more gloomy. In the light of Ravenfeather's and Mousesong's new names shown the same light on the upcoming raid to take back the Moonpool. But the breath of defeat reigned over their parade, casting a shadow on the present celebration. There was not as much hope or excitement buzzing in the air, especially after the suspicious absence of Minnowstar at full moon.
But now, Finchstar needed more than ever to promote more warriors into his ranks. And both Hazelpaw and Leafpaw were not only the ripe age now, but also have proved their worthiness along the ranks. As much as he found himself not wanting to put more cats at risk, they couldn't stay kits forever. He needed to trust them, and the best way to show his trust was this ceremony.
