Fallenfire felt the harshness of the sun hit the back of her eye lids, a groan naturally unraveling itself in her throat. Another dragging day of training. But as her amber eyes opened and a squint filtered through the light, she realized Cloudstep was late. The sun was well above the horizon, but was not quite at its peak yet. Jolting up from the epiphany, Fallenfire just about tripped out of her nest as she attempted to spring out the den. Fallenfire glanced questioningly behind her. Was her nest deeper than usual? Wait...wasn't this the warriors den? Oh yeah! She didn't have any stupid responsibilities to her mentor. In fact, she didn't even get in trouble for sleeping in! Was this the luxury of being a warrior?
Fallenfire turned back toward the den's entrance, took a deep breath, and braced herself. This would be her first day as a warrior. As she stepped outside, Fallenfire felt as if the end breeze that tickled her snow white pelt was a little warmer and lighter, and it wasn't the spring weather. It was almost as if the air itself tasted different. And she had a small clue of why. Because everything from this point on was going to feel different. Every step she would make, every subtle imprint on the earth, every breath that would leave her mouth, every syllable she would construe with her tongue, would be from a full grown warrior.
And to celebrate this freedom, she was going to grab her first meal of the day in the glory of her independence before tackling an important warrior duty. Maybe she could go out for a solo hunt or ask Hawktail to tag along on a patrol. But as she approached the fresh kill pile in mid day dream, Fallenfire let a gasp of surprise push out her lungs as uncharacteristic clumsiness overtook her in an aggressive collision. "Oof, watch it," Fallenfire spit out, taking a step back and revealing the cat she bumped into was Maplebranch. "Oh, sorry, Maplebranch," Fallenfire grinned before continuing, "Important warrior coming through."
