Boar who
Breaks Boulders
Tribe of Floating Stones
long-haired classic black tabby with amber eyes
Stone-Guard
Male
82 moons
Appearance - We live for those who came before
Boar is a rather large tom with an imposing presence. While not overly tall, his upright posture has a way of feeling as if he is looming over you regardless of if you stand above him or not. With an average height, most of his size comes from his bulky frame as muscles coil around most parts of his body. Boar has wide set shoulders that give him a loping gait and large paws that he tends to thump against the ground when he walks. His claws are long and are sharpened frequently to keep them useful for digging up weeds and tearing down creeping vines.
Boar has a fairly basic classic tabby pattern along his pelt. His fur is a swirl of light and dark browns with some white spotting along his upper chest and chin. All of his feet sport white socks though the color faded away halfway up his legs in the back and along the ankle in the front. There is a patch of missing fur along a jagged line across his right shoulder where a hawk’s talons left their mark during time as a fledgling as well as the occasional scar across his front legs from other Stone-Guard duties he’s performed over his moons.
His pelt is long and typically well kept, his cleanliness perceived as a reflection on his mental state. If he is tidy and organized then all is well however if you ever find him disheveled there is likely a root cause behind the chaos. Boar’s fur is smooth and silky, perfect for the waters that surround the Tribe islands and he usually blows his coat three to four times a year, leaving drifts of fur along his den and all over the mainland.
With a square face, Boar’s jaws are wide with heavy cheek jowls prominently featured above his mouth. He has a slight underbite which has pushed his bottom canines to poke out just past his lips and though mostly undetectable, they can be seen prominently when he smiles or frowns. He has a brown tipped nose that is crooked in the middle from a previous injury fighting off a hawk in his youth. Above the bump in the ridge of his nose sits rounded, amber eyes; both of which are framed by thick stripes of black tabby markings. Boar has a wide set brow that does not move much, making him appear stoic in most situations and conversations. He has short, rounded ears that rest close to his crown and a large chunk of pinna is missing from his right ear from an injury involving a hawk.

Boar was born into a family that was very focused on nurturing tradition and connectiveness with the islands as a whole. As a result, he grew up with a healthy respect for nature, their place in the circle of life, and their connection to the ancestors. Boar holds a strong belief in the spirits that surround everything the Tribe does and feels their actions are under constant scrutiny from the Endless. He can be seen often speaking to trees, whispering to bugs, or humming to flowers in the hopes his reverence of those before him will grant him, his family, and the Tribe as a whole good fortune. It is also his understanding ill-will that befalls the Tribe are shadowed by the souls of those who have not passed into the Endless but remain in the form of predators that hunt their prey or weeds that choke their herbs. Overall, his spirituality is the main driving force behind most, if not all; of his actions.
Boar is very passionate about sharing his beliefs with not only his family but every cat in the Tribe lands. He can be very animated when discussing topics of interest to him; mainly those about the ancestors, Stone-Guard duties, and history lessons. He is happy to share stories of the old days with any who will listen and hopes to keep the connection to their ancestors alive in the younger generations by encouraging a passion of their own in such topics.
He can be unrelenting in his ideals and so, distrustful of beliefs that do not fit into his perception of their place in the universe. This mainly leads to a prejudice against the clans and while he holds no aggression towards the clan cats, he does feel they have the ability to one day cause problems for the Tribe in the future. He is stubborn and hard to persuade if he does not agree about something and though he can change his mind about things, it is a difficult feat to convince him of anything that does not fit within his views or plans. He is strong in his convictions and will not waiver from them easily.
Boar works hard to make the islands as harmonious a home as he can so that his fellow Tribemates may focus on enjoying life and connecting with the ancestors. He has always had a natural drive to excel at anything he puts his mind to and does not back down easily from challenging situations that require creative solutions. He is innovative and always looking for ways to make tasks easier to do; for example routing water ways to more accessible locations along the islands, carving wood into sharp, curved edges to better uproot weeds, or using berry juice to mark trails for new to-bes who may get lost in the woods.
History - and for those who have yet to be
Born alongside his brothers; Jaw Of The Wolf and Stag Who Bears Twelve Tines, Boar who Breaks Boulders grew under the watchful eye of his mother; Holly of Gathering Vines. Their awakening into this world followed the Great Hunger and so traumatized by the difficult times she suffered before her kits were born and the loss of her mate to green-cough; Holly was an overbearing queen to say the least. Boar never minded his mother's overly watchful eye and enjoyed the undivided attention she provided all three of her kits. She would tell stories of the past and the Tribe cats that came before them and with awe Boar would gaze upon the land in wonder at the thought of his ancestors being such a connected part of their lives.
At a young age Boar came to terms with the death of his father despite never getting to know him, the thought of Gale of Strong Winds being with him on the breeze a comfort he eagerly shared with his siblings. They seemed less believing of simple, every day things being the work of the ancestors though their doubt never discouraged young Boar's beliefs.
Despite his attunement with nature, his brother caught the eye of the Teller and though he was happy for his brother; Jaw, there was always a part of him that wished to teach under Rain. Only after seeing Jaw begin his journey as a Teller's Apprentice did Boar realize how well his brother fit into that roll and so; content with knowing the future of the Tribe was in good hands he poured his energy into becoming a successful and well respected Stone-Guard. He made friends easily during his to-be moons due to his hardworking personality and passionate charisma.
When he and Stag became fledglings, Boar befriended an older Stone-Guard he immediately became smitten with. Despite his brother's encouragement, Boar was always too shy around Blackbird to say anything to her about his feelings. He was too afraid he'd ruin their friendship and so, hoping to impress her with his skills; he poured all his energy into being the best Stone-Guard his generation had ever seen. He even went as far as wrestling with a hawk who’d been nesting in the forest near a fellow Tribe member’s den, its presence both a threat to the cat and the prey surrounding the area. He’d been hasty when trying to drive it from it’s nest in the trees and while successful; Boar gained a jagged scar along the bridge of his nose, his right shoulder, and a section of missing ear from the fight.
Still not winning her favor, Boar decided to place his passion upon the stones at the River of Oaths in the hopes the ancestors would look upon his desire and turn his oath into a reality. He remained closed with his brother; Stag, throughout their mutual journey as Stone-Guards and often would offer his brother; Jaw, constructive advice for dilemmas he faced training under Rain.
Things within the Tribe turned not long after the trio become young, fully realized Tribe members. As the incurable disease spread across the islands, Boar watched helplessly as the sickness took Jaw first and then Holly. Knowing they were among the Endless was of little comfort to Boar as he watched so many Tribemates fall victim to the same fate. To add to his frustrations, Boar was overlooked for the head Stone-Guard position despite proving himself countless times to both Rain and the previous heads. Frustrated, he began to loose faith in Rain’s ability to lead and was immediately suspicious of Creek. In his eyes, there was no better fit than Jaw and whoever took on the role of Teller would likely never compare to his lost brother.
Despite his reservations, the illness subsided for the warmer moons and Boar welcomed his brother's kin into his life. Stag took up residency in a young rosemary bush not far from the Tribe Stone so that his kits can lead social lives. It was not long after that Stag lost all but his daughter; Sky, to the returned sickness and fearing he will lose her too, the tom convinced Boar to move into the den together. The rosemary bush was in a sad state of neglect with patches dying of root rot and Boar immediately worked tirelessly to repair it into a more habitable home. He was immediately amused by his nieces free spirit and tried to encourage her interests into tending to the land, his belief that the illness's return was punishment for slacking on caring for the islands due to Creek's inexperience a driving force in pushing her towards a Stone-Guard role.
Boar continued to tend to as many herbs as he could in the hopes of finding the right one for the illness but was outmaneuvered by the clan cat's involvement and their gift of lungwort. He was skeptical of their visit but helped nurture the plant until it could truly be tested against the illness. Scared he will miss his chance to tell Blackbird his true feelings, Boar finally confessed his love for the molly only to be shot down by his secret rival, Talon. He had always held a spark of resentment towards the tom for filling the Head Stone-Guard roll in place of him and then seeing the tom take the paw of the love of his life, Boar was devastated. In response he tucked his heart away behind a thick barrier; all the while morose he would never achieve the oath he placed in the riverbed.
Instead of healthily addressing his feelings, Boar instead threw himself into his work tirelessly. Begrudgingly, he accepted that the lungwort was helpful and quickly assisted Creek in distributing it. With one problem tackled, another soon rose in the form of coyotes stalking through the fog that had descended upon the Tribe after Creek's death. Boar became even more convinced the Tribe was losing touch with their ancestors; especially with no Teller to teether them to the afterlife. Even with Fog's return he worried about the future the Tribe faced, his concern only growing with the whispered rising of Sumac.
The Tribe is one with both nature and itself. Any sort of divide only angers the spirits around them. This, Boar tried to convince his friends and family of to no avail. His warnings were proven true by the fire that consumed the island; taking with it his lost love, Blackbird; as well as his brother, and most of his nieces family. All that remained was Moon; his grand-niece and at his insistence, the molly moved into the rosemary den that was once her mother's home as Boar never left it even after Sky relocated closer to the forest. The rosemary bush was nearly all gone, only a few twigs remained but he vowed to return the bush to its former glory he'd already worked so hard to achieve. For the first few moons he and Moon stayed in a cluster of rocks nearby and eventually moved back into the bush once it sprouted enough leaves to comfortably nest in.
As Sumac took control, Boar tried to rally support against the tricky Prey-Hunter but not many were willing to fight against the tom's rule. Fear of losing Moon kept Boar's true revolt at bay though he never stopped trying to remind his tribemates of the old ways. It is only with Fog's return that Boar finally began to have hope in the balance returning. Though he does not support violence, Sumac's actions were a cancer on the islands and Sunrise cutting it out was the only way to free them of the ilk. The return to balance was rewarded with the return of his once thought dead family members, Sky and Star.
Now Boar hopes to teach his family and all of his Tribe the warning of not repeating past mistakes. He wishes to encourage connectivity to the land not seen in many seasons in the hope their ancestors will reward them with more good fortune and opportunity.
