It was dawn before the cats got home. But it didn't smell like home anymore. The stench of LichenClan lingered in the air as if they were at the gathering, not nearing the heart of their own territory. But as they grew closer and closer to camp, his heart grew cold and his stomach dropped to the ground. His brain rushed him onward, but his legs started to freeze up as if losing all the blood in their circulation. He must have looked foolish, his walk growing more sluggish as he fought for the will to keep going. It wasn't just LichenClan he smelled. It was blood. Fear. Resolute. Whatever had happened, already transpired.
Finchstar wasn't prepared for this. The worst happened, and for once the worst wasn't on the forefront of his mind. Guilt for putting strangers before his denmates flooded through his frozen limbs like a fire, bringing new life to his veins. His pace progressed into a frantic trot as he caught Robin-nose in his sights. The sentry. She wasn't badly injured, but it seemed like the warrior had gone through an all out war. Then it hit him.
Where was Redfox?
Panic consumed his mind, and before he knew it his pace had now evolved into a focused sprint, completely losing reality and the awareness of his patrol. What was the damage? What did that bitch Minnowstar do? What kind of cruel monster initiates a sneaky attack like this knowing full well they had already agreed to war? What a cheap shot, weakening them before their showdown. Only a coward secures success in such a cheat way. "Robin-nose! We're back. Please, tell me what happened." Finchstar pleaded as he approached the scene, unaware of the sudden panic that this could draw.
