Eelpaw
Lichenclan
short-furred black tom with yellow eyes
apprentice
tom (he/him)
six moons
Appearance
This apprentice is a slippery black cat with short fur and a slim face. He has a rusty tint to his tail, which becomes easier to see in the sunlight. While on the smaller side of average in overall size, Eelpaw is well-muscled, particularly in his legs. This is not from any effort on his part to bulk up; his excess energy and desire for fun just mean he's up and moving a lot. He makes up for his high activity by sleeping like the dead, and once he's out it can be hard to wake him. The tom has watchful yellow eyes, a black nose, and an almost consistent small smile on his face, as if a joke has been told that only he can hear. His small head sometimes makes him appear younger than he actually is. His mother often worries about his black pelt, as it isn't conducive for blending into the rocks spread throughout their territory.
Personality
Eelpaw is friendly. Eelpaw is fun. Eelpaw is a compulsive liar. Eelpaw is self-absorbed and doesn't care if you get screwed in the process of him having fun. Eelpaw is here to remind you that friendly does not always mean kind.
Lichenclan cats have been described as "methodical and deliberately calculated". Eelpaw is definitely a holder of these traits, if a little unorthodox in how he uses them. With little reverence for religion, (though he would never say so up front), Eelpaw prefers to focus on achieving his own goals. Don't get the wrong idea - there is no grand, secret ambition here. Eelpaw simply wants to enjoy life, and maybe see what waves he can make along the way.
The young tom is social, quick to answer a question or greeting and averse to conflict. He does not pick fights or gossip, and it'd be easy to call him easy going or laid back if you didn't know him well.
There's nothing Eelpaw likes more than having a good time. If your idea of a good time aligns with his, then it's your lucky day - Eelpaw will do everything he can to make it happen. Of course, if your idea of fun doesn't align with his, that sucks for you.
There is no inciting incident that kicked off Eelpaw's compulsive lying. The young cat started at an early age, when he discovered a white lie could get you out of trouble, get you what you wanted, and let you keep things to yourself. His mother could ask if he saw the hunting party leave and he could answer "no" - and wasn't it fun to have something as precious as the truth all to yourself?
Likely ingrained and maybe exacerbated by having no littermates, Eelpaw is very invested in himself. He's very cognizant of his own wants and needs, but less so of others. This isn't obliviousness or a lack of ability; Eelpaw is as capable of picking up social cues as the next cat. He simply doesn't care about the desires of others unless they benefit his own.
History
Eelpaw has grown up with his mother, Brushpelt. Pebblenose, his father, was killed during the war with Thistleclan and Redwoodclan. His parents were mated under an arrangement, as is common practice in Lichenclan. Eelpaw remembers his father, but has only recently come to understand fully what happened to him. As the only kit in his litter, he often made up games to play with himself. His mother cares for him strongly and was patient with him, even as he became more of a handful as he grew. A sneaky kit, he could often be found wandering the camp unattended after having snuck out.
