"RedwoodClan may not of seen it, but LichenClan did."
Hemlockheart growled as he, and his battle-ready patrol made their way for RedwoodClan's forest. "We saw the crows. We saw the moon. It was shrouded in clouds. StarClan was clear in their message, LichenClan." The redwood trees stood tall in the distance, and the deputy watched them get closer with fire filled eyes. He. Minnowstar. And the whole of LichenClan had been looking towards this battle for moons now. He knew that most of the cats in his clan dreaded the idea of war, but to Hemlockheart, this was all necessarily. And quite honestly, the blue point tom struggled to conceal the excitement he felt. He loved the thrill of fighting, but most of all, he was excited to deal justice. RedwoodClan's idiocy would be punished today. They chose to ignore StarClan, something that would put all the clans in danger. It was then that he remembered their mission, something he'd happily accomplish.
"RedwoodClan's ignorance will no longer be tolerated. Killing that thing--" he snarled in acknowledgement to the demon that remained in their enemies camp--"is our top priority. You all are to handle any cat who prevents you from making our goal successful."
The patrol drew closer to the enemy camp. It had been difficult navigating the redwood forest, but Hemlockheart was just barely able to follow the scents that all lead back to the same place. Their camp. His tail flicked in the air, a symbol for his group to stop. Every move from here on out would have to be careful if they wanted to secure their success. He addressed his subordinates one last time before they engaged in combat.
"Know that none of you will go unattended today. Any misdemeanor or lapse in loyalty will be kept and reported. Only bravery and strength will be rewarded.
Know that the lives of your clan-mates remains in your paws as well." His gaze met Shadowface as his words were mostly meant for her. He trusted most everyone on this patrol. Sandbriar was a talented fighter and had trained under Minnowstar herself. Lightwater's father may have been a traitor, but the molly had proven herself trustworthy. And while Snowfeather was meek, her faults didn't compare to Shadowface's. Hemlockheart had been shocked to see her interacting with a RedwoodClan cat at the gathering. He had pinned her as someone who was faithful to her leaders and StarClan, but it seemed he may have been wrong in his judgement. Minnowstar had seen it too, having told him directly to test the tortoiseshell's loyalty today. Don't disappoint me. He mused bitterly.
"Now…" His lips parted to taste the air. Due to their proximity to RedwoodClan's camp, the tom could pick out the smells of their cats. Among the odors was the familiar stench of the clan's deputy. Redfox. It seemed the molly was on guard duty. He turned back to the mollies behind him. Now was the time for Shadowface to prove her loyalty. Now was the time for all of them to prove their loyalty.
"Shadowface. Your skills as a huntress haven't gone unnoticed. You will use those same skills to secure our victory." He quietly gestured to what he had assumed was RedwoodClan's entrance. "Take care of their deputy. Think of her as prey and ambush her. Then the rest of us will follow. LichenClan will be successful." He promised.
With that, the deputy braced himself. His claws slid out and into the dirt. With one tail movement, the plan was a go.
