shimmerscale
lichenclan
Oriental siamese lynx point she-cat with cerulean eyes
warrior
female
32 moons
Appearance
Sleek, thin and lithe. Those are words that are perfect to describe Shimmerscale. She takes a lot after her mother's shape and form, with a rather annoying lack of muscles, though that's not to say that she has none at all. She is still rather small, but that is nothing unusual for a pure LichenClan cat, as she is able to worm around the caverns with ease. Her limbs are slightly longer, particularly her tail, though this doesn't hinder her in any way as it just lets her balance easier.
Like most of her clan, Shimmerscale's pelt displays a point pattern, very much similar to her mothers, although with a slightly earthier grey. Two bright, cerulean blue eyes stand out from the rest of her coat, framed by large ears and a long muzzle. In all respects, she is a typical LichenClan warrior - though perhaps a bit too dainty for her tastes.

Personality
✓ Humourous
Shimmerscale is pretty social for a LichenClan cat, and has a good sense of humour to match. She finds words pretty easy to come by, and therefore, most cats she talks to find her rather easy-going and humourous. Of course, sometimes this falls flat on her face if she gets riled up, but lets just hope that doesn't happen often, right?
✓ Self-motivated
If Shimmerscale wants something, she WILL get it. She has the motivation and determination to drive herself to do things others may not see a point in doing. This makes her a hard worker, driven even further by the desire to break through the traditional bonds tying her down and away from the life she desires.
- Rebellious
Shimmerscale has a rebellious streak, and will tend to misbehave if she sees something as unjust or unfair, or simply doesn't get her way. She won't let someone drag her down, especially if their name happens to be Sturgeonstone. She won't misbehave for stupid reasons, only if she views something as unfair, but being rebellious at all isn't much wanted.
✗ Callow
Despite her high and mighty outer appearance, Shimmerscale is far more inexperienced than she acts. She will throw herself into situations that are far too difficult for someone of her skill level, purely because she convinces herself that she is fine, and perfectly capable of such feats. More often than not, though, this doesn't end up going her way.
✗ Bitter
Shimmerscale's recent history has lead to her becoming far more sarcastic and bitter than before. She doesn't see as much joy in things as she used to, having grown up too fast in such a bloody way. She sees things in a pessimistic light, being more sceptical than before, and it'll take a while before she goes back to what she used to be, if she does at all.
History
Shimmerkit was the older of two kits, born to Violetshade and Salamanderfoot. Neither Shimmerkit nor her brother, Salmonkit, knew their father, as he was uninterested in the loveless relationship between the family unit, and no matter what Shimmerkit did, she never got his attention. He passed away less than two moons after the duo were born, and though she never was close to him, Shimmerkit privately mourned. She always wished that she was able to impress him, though. Perhaps this is why she works so hard.
As for the rest of her kithood, there seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. One thing, though, that Shimmerkit stood out for was her rather abrasive attitude, and disrespect for what her future role in the clan was destined to be. As far as the kit was concerned, she was going to be a warrior, just like her father, uncle and her descendants before her. The thought she could be bound to the nursery for the rest of her life never crossed her mind - until she was apprenticed.
Apprenticed to Sturgeonstone, Shimmerpaw found her views conflicted for the first time. She didn't want to be a queen, and she never truly realised that cats saw that as her only path. She HAD to prove them wrong. Despite her uncle, her mentor and her mother all telling her differently, Shimmerpaw has stuck to her guns, determined to make an amazing warrior out of herself. She wouldn't let herself fall to the status of a queen. She wouldn't take a mate who thought of her as nothing but a queen. She wouldn't bear kits until she was sure it wasn't her only purpose.
No. She was going to carve her own path, and claw her way to the top. No matter what.
Shimmerpaw isn't dense, though. She knows that LichenClan is starting to crumble at it's roots. She knows that Minnowstar is slowly but surely losing her mind, and she has no heir to take over. It makes her a little bitter, as it seems like Bristlefur would take over, and she was so close to being related to Minnowstar and being next in line (though it would be Salmonpaw first, annoyingly). However, she is determined to stand by Minnowstar and her regime for now. Maybe it would put her in a more favourable light.
Shimmerpaw's apprenticeship with Sturgeonstone was rocky, to say the least. They never got on, and as time went on, they deteriorated further and further, to the point where Sturgeonstone was obsessed that Shimmerpaw was heading to the Dark Forest, and Shimmerpaw eventually didn't care to. She wouldn't do anything that her mentor said, and that was fine. The toxic relationship 'mostly' broke apart when Shimmerscale was forcibly graduated, but the tenseness never went away.
One thing that helped Shimmerscale get through her last moons of apprenticeship was the company of a young, fresh warrior - Mothshine. The gorgeous she-cat was struggling on her own terms, and Shimmerscale had wanted to help her out, unknowingly also helping herself with her tense situation at the same time. After she graduated, Shimmerscale and Mothshine spent more time together, and slowly, Shimmerscale found herself falling for the molly - a relationship that was mutual. She had never identified as lesbian, or even bi, before meeting Mothshine, but after that, she knew. It was like it was meant to be.
As the war grew nearer and nearer, relationships changed and tension grew. Shimmerscale finally broke off ties with her mother, Violetshade, as the molly disapproved of Shimmerscale's growing relationship with Mothshine - the climax of breakage being when Shimmerscale tried to explain the relationship to her mother, and that Shimmerscale had wanted to go further. They had never had the best relationship to begin with, however, so Shimmerscale didn't let this stop her. Not long after, she and Mothshine officially became mates.
The war drew close just a couple of moons after, and Shimmerscale found herself out on the battlefield, side-by-side with the mother she had previously disowned. They fought just like clanmates, until the warring Hollowheart, a RedwoodClan warrior, went for the kill as he pinned Shimmerscale under him, just for Violetshade to take the blow. Shimmerscale's cold resolve crumbled, and she sobbed, cried, begged, but the bleeding was heavy.
That was not the only blow to be dealt tonight. As Shimmerscale dragged Violetshade to Lilacpaw, another clanmate came with grave news, yet Shimmerscale arrived to her too late, and all she could do was collapse and cry at Mothshine's cold corpse. Hours ticked by, and only when Shimmerscale finally found someone to help her bring Mothshine back to camp, she found that Violetshade had also passed.
Time collapsed in on itself. For moons, for years, for an eternity, she slept, sobbed, grieved. Oh, how Shimmerscale grieved. She had lost her mate, and the mother that she never truly lost her love for. There didn't seem to be much to live for anymore - not her brother, not her clan. Not anyone. In fact, if it had been easier and less panicked with the changes, Shimmerscale might have changed her plans.
Most of the next few moons passed by in a haze. The blizzard, the flood - she paid little attention to them. The she-cat did notice that they were forced onto RedwoodClan land after the floods, though - who wouldn't? She was far from happy with that, given that a RedwoodClan cat had killed her mother, and maybe even her mate (though she never found out). It was a necessity at the time, sadly. Shimmerscale just gave that clan a very wide berth, and was more than grateful when they could return to LichenClan.
It took 9 moons after the battle for Shimmerscale to feel like she could start to become herself again. Not the cat she had once been, for nightmares still infested her, and the loss would never be truly forgotten. However, just mindlessly going about duties and isolating herself wasn't helping anyone, let alone herself.
The she-cat is still in the dawn of her new livelihood, but she knows that she needs to work on herself. After all, would Mothshine and Violetshade want her to go down grieving? No... right?
No.
