This was the day.
Finchstar had never prepared more in his life, even before his leader ceremony. He had gone through every scenario, every response, and yes, even every battle move. Something would happen from today. Whether that be good or bad, it didn't matter. The everyday anxiety that revolved around this drama between his Clan and LichenClan, never knowing whether he should waste his time preparing for war or not, or nervously treading their borders in case more tension would rise, or not giving Minnowstar too much eye contact at gatherings--
Yes, this needed to find some kind of conclusion. And Finchstar was ready to fight a war if he needed. But the anticipation was weakening him, and his clanmates.
Behind him, Minkfur, Orchidshade, Loudstorm, and Weaselpelt followed in silence, the tension sparking through all of their pelts. Finchstar knew he had picked a solid patrol, both with fight and heart. He didn't want to let any cats that could possibly increase their intimidation. Finchstar's goal was purely of peace, despite his gruesome expectations. He had Loudstorm especially close, for he knew the good humored warrior was perfect for breaking the ice. Whether they would have time before they would have to fight their way out of camp, or rather, he should be hoping he can even make it to camp in the first place.
Heart racing, but wearing a calm expression, he stepped over LichenClan border, a notorious move that would be joked on in his Clan for getting one killed, but not quite a joke anymore considering they really were risking their lives here. Especially with himself leading the patrol. This could spell out disaster. But after a slight pause from the first step, he continued onward, steady but cautious, into enemy territory.
Surprisingly, they weren't immediately met with their demise. They traveled in continued silence, but he swore he heard blood drip on the ground as the feeling of them all walking on eggshells felt clearer and clearer in his head. As they impressively got closer and closer to camp without a single red flag, misfortune would have it, like a welcome mat a patrol was seen quite a ways, but their scent was all they needed for their indistinct figures to come at a rushed paced toward them. He let out a gulp of air that he didn't even know he was holding in. Things were starting to heat up already. He felt the tension rise in his crew, and lifted his tail as both a sign to halt, but the waver in the tip of his tail desperately conveyed his cats that everything would be alright. As long as they stay calm, that is.
"I have no desire to fight, only to speak to Minnowstar." Finchstar waited patiently in place until the LichenClan cats caught up to them. But his words and tall stance was not as submissive as his patience. He needed to see Minnowstar, even if there would be a fight.
