Poppy
outsider
a small brown tabby she-cat with green eyes
rogue
female (she/her)
forty-three
Appearance : no one calls you honey
Poppy is rather small in size, with thin and elegant features. Despite her size, it is clear that she is quite muscular. Her short fur does little to hide the lean muscles under her pelt. She is light on her feet and seems to have the energy to make use of it. She is fast and agile, and she uses this to her advantage any time she is in a situation where she has to engage in combat.
Her fur is short but soft, and she sports long whiskers on her face. She is covered in spotted tabby markings, with the iconic M pattern on her forehead and streaks of dark brown falling from the corners of her eyes to her cheeks. She is a brown tabby, but her fur is not particularly dark in color. While her spots and stripes are dark browns in hue, the rest of her fur varies from a grey-brown to a ginger-toned tan, to even a creamy white around her muzzle.
+ Poppy has gained a few scars since she was a young pup. She does not carry the youthful trot in her gait, nor the soft nature of her pelt, for she has grown wirey and thin as she reached maturity. No longer can she pass for a weak welp. It is spelled across the entire form that she has lost and won many times on the battlefield. She has received several scars, including:
- a scar from her inner thigh to her belly from a kick by Vixen.
- a torn scruff from a bite by Vixen.
- a broken left front leg from Graygaze.
- a scar on her throat from Lily.
-a kinked tail from Icesong.
-a long face scar from her nose to her forehead, narrowly avoiding her eye from Icesong.

Personality : when you're sitting on the throne
+ cunning & reckless -
Poppy is not unintelligent. In fact, she has a smart wit and a way with words. However, she is always looking for a way to get ahead, even if there is risk involved. She makes decisions recklessly, and rarely takes a rational look at a situation before leaping into it. She is daring and craves excitement, and would do anything for the adrenaline rush, even if it may have negative long-term consequences.
- impulsive & curious +
She lives her life in the moment, always following her immediate desires and very rarely thinking ahead. Because of this, she can be somewhat absent-minded in nature. She often can be forgetful of important details, instead of focusing on what she deems the larger picture. This is more accurately described as whatever has taken her attention at any given moment, which can fluctuate wildly. She is very curious and will follow any single train of thought until it bores her, which can be rather quickly.
- hot-headed & loyal +
+ hotheaded: Despite her speed and prowess when in training, she has lost every "real" fight she has been in, usually in dramatic fashion. Her reckless behavior has only become worse as she becomes desperate to win at any cost, opening her up to receive worse injuries. She is bitter at her losses, and takes it out on her peers. She is quick to lash out at those around her, reserving her love for her mother and brothers alone. Despite her casual cruelty, she cares deeply about her allies, and wants to do right by them even if she does not say so.
History : Beware the patient woman, cause' this much I know
Mother: Lily (@ rain)
Siblings: Oleander (@ sloth), Hawethorne (@ egotistic)
Hunger. A distant memory at best, one that she can only remember when thinking of how much she enjoys the warmth of Newleaf. But her first memories were feeling the chill of the wind with no mother to warm her new, sickly body.
She also remembers the quiet of the world, and the realization of loneliness. The dryness of her mouth and the pit in her stomach after the milk had dried up. Waiting for the heartbeats that had normally surrounded her to strike again. The scent of blood and rats, and the sounds of crunching bone. All that was left was the empty world, devoid of all except the pitiful, hungry mewles that left her lips. The smell of old urine and death faded from her surroundings as she dragged her scrawny body away from the awful scents.
And then the memory ended abruptly. She could only remember it when she was silent for too long, and when she found herself alone. She hated being alone.
Her true memories began when she had a name. Poppy, a red flower with a dark center. It suited her, even from a young age. It was clear to her that her mother did care a great deal about her. Lily would teach her how to fight, how to hunt, and how to fill her heart with hatred and malice. She learned quickly that to manipulate is to gain an upper hand, an easy way to overcome any obstacle that may present itself to her. Her mother, as well as her two brothers, raised her, and as far as she knew, they were her one and only family. Anyone who was to claim otherwise would be accused of being a liar. They were the only cats she cared about, and she was taught that loyalty to her mother and brothers trumped all.
She enjoyed fighting. She would challenge her much older brothers, sometimes at Lily's behest and sometimes out of her own love for the thrill of battle. The glee she felt at raking her claws into another was a feeling she craved, and the adrenaline of combat drove her to be reckless with her attacks. She rarely won against her siblings, but they would never harm her to the point that she may scar her pretty coat too badly. She explained that her strength was to deceive others into believing she may be a peaceful cat that avoided fighting, and instead she sought cooperation and a gentle conversation. Only when it was too late for her enemies would she show them her true power.
Hawthorne was the perfect cat in many ways, and Poppy quickly grew attached to him. She followed him around even as a young kit, watching as he grew as a fighter and trying her hardest to follow in his footsteps. While she would practice with Hawthorne, she felt the eyes of her mother burn into her pelt, observing her and judging her skills. She thrived on this feeling and would do anything to impress her mother and prove herself to her brother.
When Hawthorne has the plan to enter the clan forests, Poppy is always the first to volunteer to join. She thrives on his attention and will use any opportunity to do harm to the evil clan that has hurt her family so intensely.
She never understood why her eldest brother acts so strangely. However, he often found himself in a situation where Poppy could take advantage of his nature and pull him into her own adventures and mischief, even if he was the ultimate victim of her pranks. She believes that regardless of the loving abuse she put Oleander through, he would love her and support her. All of her pranks and taunts are done with love, and she believes that he understands that and accepts them, regardless of his true feelings. When her mother sees her with Oleander, she has a different expression than when she looks at Hawthorne. She does not understand what the look means. Is it...disappointment? Disgust? Regardless, she does not understand her distaste for the tom. After all, is he not her eldest son?
Lily takes over ThistleClan's old camp. Poppy becomes injured after a rogue attempts to challenge her mother's position and the young she-cat intercepts. Poppy takes the loss hard and throws herself into training. She proves herself adept and quick, leaving her lost for words at how she managed to lose so horribly. In the process she gathers a group of cats she cares about beyond her family; namely Seraphine, Songbird, Honeybun, and Noir.
Lily sends Oleander and Poppy to distract the guards. Poppy succeeds in beating her adversary in single combat, but she is ultimately forced to leave after her brother suffers several injuries and backup arrives. She also finds a new rival in a strong ThistleClan tom named Graygaze, vowing to defeat him the next they met.
ThistleClan attacks the rogues at their old camp. Poppy comes face to face with Graygaze and attacks but is swiftly defeated in mere moments as he broke her leg. Despite wanting to continue to fight, she fled at the persistence of her mother. The new rogue's home is devoid of prey, and Poppy is forced to search on ThistleClan's border. There she sees a face she met briefly before, a mustached tom newly named Doveface. Poppy also strikes a deal with Softstep to teach him about rogue life.
Poppy is shown the harshness of life as she is injured by strangers and family alike in her persistence to grow stronger. At Lily's will, the rogues move beneath LichenClan's territory. Shortly after, they are called to aid LichenClan in the battle against RedwoodClan. Poppy scares the heebie-jeebies from an apprentice.
LichenClan plans yet another assault on the neighboring clans, and Poppy is sent with her brother Hawthorne to fight and kill Finchstar. In the process, Poppy takes some serious blows dealt by the deputy of RedwoodClan, Icesong. Hawthorne saves her, but bitterness toward him has grown within her heart. On the night of the blood moon, Poppy lies to her mother and tells her that it was she who killed Finchstar and not her brother. In turn, she is promoted to Lily’s second in command.
A final battle strikes the clans as the others attack LichenClan. Poppy is once again sent to help Hawthorne kill Finchstar, but not before her mother tells her to meet in rogue territory after the fighting. In the battle, Poppy nearly kills Finchstar, but finds that, at the last moment, she cannot bring herself to take another’s life.
She flees from the fight and heads to the cliffs to meet her mother, only to find Lily dead and murdered by Hawthorne. Enraged, Poppy seeks him out and finds him on the shore. After a brief conversation, she kills him - her first time killing another.
Poppy spends the next few moons alone, but quickly finds that she misses the cats that would normally be around her. After the battle, most of the rogues she had grown to love are dead or missing. Only Honeybun joins her as she plots and schemes a new group - one named after a weed that slowly chokes out all other flowers and plants. A beautiful weed, one most might think beautiful before the surroundings die to its strangling hold. Celandine is formed in a lodge at the edge of the northern cliffs, a gathered group of cats with the goal of making a better life for rogue-kind.
However, despite herself, Poppy still holds a deep hatred for the clans in her heart. More than anything else, she craves revenge. During the flood, many ThistleClanners are washed onto rogue land. Poppy makes some of them into rogues, and the rest are locked away in a shed far from the lodge. When the flood waters recede, all but a pair of mischievous apprentices are allowed to make their exits. Unfortunantly, she knows that the apprentices know the location and population of her lodge, so Poppy is not keen to give them up easily to ThistleClan. In a desperate attempt at escape, Poppy nearly kills the apprentices when she catches them running away. However, when she draws her claws against them, she finds she doesn't have the strength to take their lives and instead lets them slip away.
In her formation of the rogue cooperation, she decides that she requires subordinates who can do the daily tasks much in the same way that her mother had her perform the role of trainer and general in the past. She assigns several cats to different roles, recruiting them from across the islands. Leopardface, a fling from LichenClan, becomes her spymaster - in charge of gathering information. Sugarplum and Honeybun are chosen as her dual commanders, entrusted with leading her army and maintaining their strength. Mercury, a strange tom from the outlands and Sugarplum's mate, is made into her physician with the young Belladonna for support. And finally, after killing her prisoner medicine cat Bouncefire, ex-ThistleClan son of Graygaze, Silver is named her prophet - tasked with receiving word from the stars so that she can foretell the events of the future.
Slowly, the rogues begin to formulate a plan. She intends to cause trouble for them until she learns that they are at war with each other once again. Instead of pursuing their borders and causing further harassment, she chooses to stay away for the time being, intent to weather the cold season and maintain her numbers.
With winter beginning to settle amongst the island's residents, an emphasis on hunting has been placed on her army instead of battle training. Slowly, she bides her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to begin to unveil her next plan to bring the time of the clans to an end.
