Adderpaw
Thistleclan
Tall ruddy-colored tom with amber eyes
Apprentice
Tom
Nine moons
Appearance
To his disappointment, he inherited a slender, slim frame that is accentuated by his tall, lanky height, giving him a somewhat Redwoodclan-like appearance. Long, spindly legs hold up his light build, gifting him tremendous speed and swiftness on a smooth terrain. Despite his gangly appearance, he is quite nimble and swift, even in compact quarters. However, his height is a disadvantage in the dense undergrowth of the pine forest, for he must be quite vigilant of low hanging branches that could behead him while he runs. While his speed and agility are blessings, he resents them in favor of a more Thistleclan build.
Owing to his Thistleclan blood, he has a thin, short pelt evolved to withstand the dense pine forest. This fur is ruddy in color with black ticked tabby flecks that are especially prominent along his spine up to his head and down his tail, giving the coloration an almost scale-like appearance. His coat is neither a light nor dark shade, but he would have preferred to be a darker color in order to blend into the shadowy environment of the pine forest.
Despite his height and long legs being one of his most prominent features, his ears are also just as unmistakable. Two large ears jut out of his head, giving him a bat-like appearance. He hates his ears, yet their large shape allows him to detect even the most muted sounds, gifting him with excellent hunting skills. His angular face accentuates his prominent ears as well, emphasizing the gauntness of his appearance.

Personality
Grumpy, reserved, awkward, brooding and wistful are adjectives to describe this stormy cat’s social traits. Even the most minor of inconveniences frustrate him, often giving him a hot-head reputation as well since he sometimes makes regretful decisions during the heat of the moment. Due to his grumpiness and reservation, he often avoids other cats altogether, though he has a desire to make a best friend one day. However, even when he tries to go out of his way and be amiable, his awkwardness produces a foot-in-mouth effect when he speaks, eliciting inappropriate responses that make other cats uncomfortable.
On his own, he is a wistful cat full of regrets. He is self-conscious of his mistakes and is highly retentive of unpleasant situations and his rash outburst. Spending a lot of his time in solitude, he constantly mulls over hypothetical situations, often trying to prepare for future situations. However, once those social situations arise, his churlishness and awkwardness often override the strategy he set out before.
Being as wistful as he is, he often laments over his perceived flaws. For instance, he detests his gangly appearance, for he desires to be an ideal Thistleclan cat that is built for the dense terrain. He is vehement in expressing his loyalty to Thistleclan. Perhaps this extreme passion is an overcompensation for his biologically inferior Thistleclan genes, however. Yet, he is extremely proud of his heritage, especially being the perceived son of Adderstrike. The honor of being named after his esteemed father gives him a slightly positive self-image that he lacks from constantly degrading himself with his brooding.
While he whines in solitude, he is highly conscientious and strives to become better, especially in aspects of his warrior duties. Thus, he desires to be a proper warrior, devoting countless hours to training and what he calls “meditation.” This meditation takes the form of spending long times planning out how he should behave should he be hunting or battling. While his meditation does not work for him over social situations, it has aided in his achievement of becoming a shrewder warrior.
While performing his warrior duties, he is calculating, methodical, and cunning; he is a strategist. Though he is a social failure, he compensates for it by being a successful warrior. However, his methods are not always the most honorable. Taking to heart the Thistleclan spirit, he can be crafty at the expense of others if it is for the betterment of Thistleclan and himself, perhaps a trait passed down from his mother, Cedarflame.

History
If he had known his perceived father, Adderstrike, Adderpaw would have been a daddy’s boy. A lot of his angst may stem from the lack of a physical father-figure in his life because Adderstrike had passed away from natural causes before his mother, Cedarflame, gave birth to him and his sisters, Briarpaw and Screechpaw. Adderpaw had too many female figures in his life for his comfort, especially since he also has two older perceived full-blood sisters, Foxshade and Tawnyfire. Not only that, but he finds his perceived full-blood older brother, Mintnose, to be too feminine. Thus, he has lacked a male figure in his life that could have prevented his social confusion.
Though Adderstrike is no longer with him, Adderpaw canonizes his image; he venerates his father’s essence, which encourages his ambition to become a clever, strong warrior. Ultimately, Adderpaw’s entire identity revolves around the concept of his father. To learn that Adderstrike was not actually his biological father because Cedarflame had cheated on him would affect him in unknown ways. However, Adderpaw is completely ignorant to the fact that Adderstrike is not his father, for only his older siblings and mother know the truth.
Adderpaw is not especially close to his living family, for his efforts to connect with some members are either ignored or he has no desire to associate with others at all. Cedarflame embarrasses him because of her overbearing nature. As a warrior, he finds her brash and excessively aggressive, which irritates him for he finds her skills subpar in comparison to the image of his mighty father; he wishes she exercised more prudence. As a mother, he finds her oppressive as she smothers him with superfluous affection, in his opinion. Thus, he avoids her.
His older (half) brother, Mintnose, aggravates Adderpaw. As a kit, Adderpaw was in the constant company of his doting bother, relishing in his gentle affection. As Adderpaw aged, he began to be disgusted in his brother’s feminine nature, realizing that the only male figure in his life was just a softhearted nanny. It frustrates and shames him that the tom that the sweet tom was so sentimental. However, Adderpaw is blind to the shy intelligence than his older (half) brother has to offer.
Foxshade, his older (half) sister garners curiosity from Adderpaw. While Adderpaw is not particularly interested in the many female figures in his life, he finds the deputy to be an exception. Though he finds her arrogance to be aggravating, he finds it more tolerable than the arrogance of his mother because Foxshade’s determination and success as a warrior permit her to be proud. Earlier in his life, he attempted to develop a closer sibling relationship with the she-cat, but her aloofness and perceived indifference towards him flustered and embarrassed him, especially after he went out of his way to express interest in her. Since Adderpaw is a socially awkward cat, he thought that it was his uncouthness that caused Foxshade to find him foolish, particularly since she was so charismatic. It was perhaps these interactions that caused him to become so reserved and tend to dwell on his mistakes. After his perceived rejection from her, he began to find her charisma and charm pathetic in order to repair his injured pride. Thus, he convinced himself that it he deliberately pushed her away and she was the one who wanted to initiate a friendship in order to mend his pride, but even these delusions are not convincing enough.
Since he finds the other she-cats in his family uninteresting, including his older (half) sister Tawnyfire and his littermates Briarpaw and Screechpaw, he is not entirely interested in developing any relationships with them. Upon the sudden death of Briarpaw to greencough when she was only eight moons old, Adderpaw did experience grief for his sister, despite the lack of connection before her death. Perhaps this grief stemmed from the loss of a potential warrior for the clan he is feverishly loyal towards, perhaps he more compassionate than he openly displays, or perhaps he felt regret for not knowing her better (since he always has had a guilty conscience). However, this grief was short-lived because Adderpaw has a pragmatic perspective on life and death, but it did impact his personality by making him more conscientious through the dedication of more time to becoming a stronger warrior. After all, he knows that life is uncertain, it is a possibility that he could be struck down tomorrow, just like his revered father.
