Rogues possessed the cruelest eyes. Sadistic joy flashed across their collective muzzles as soon as they detected the ThistleClan patrol. Each one looked apathetic to the derelicit camp, unphased by the presence of the deceased clan cats. Graygaze and Eaglefang would peer beyond the brush at the unapologetic vultures. A large tabby tom was keen to fight - going so far as to issue a blatant challenge to the shadowy warriors.
"Eaglefang," Graygaze mewed. "They're drawing us into one-on-one battles. If we all go after a single rogue, then the rest will flank us. It's a pretty smart strategy on their part... how bothersome." Graygaze let out a weary sigh. "I expect that she-cat will jump in to help that loudmouth as soon as I step out. You'll have to intercept her." Graygaze let his tail brush against Eaglefang's shoulder. "Come on, bright-eyes. This is what you've been training for."
The gray Korat approached the arrogant tabby that had threatened to drag him out by the scruff. Curiosity would be met with a lanky tom not nearly close to his size. A haggard, dirty, tired feline floundered onto the glades of the ThistleClan hill and blinked at him slowly. The droopy warrior definitely looked like a pest. Even so, the warrior showed no fear.
"Hmmmm..." Graygaze looked around the clearing, evidently in no rush.
"It's weird. I've thought about going rogue for a long time, now." Graygaze cracked his neck to one side before continuing. "Why wouldn't you stake your claim on a territory that can't be defended? Makes sense to me. You're just looking out for yourselves. There are no pretenses or a code of honor keeping you from taking what you want. It seems rather... freeing?" Graygaze's whiskers twitched, annoyed he could not find the correct phrasing.
"No responsibilities. No patrols. Nobody ordering you around. It's so simple." An amused veneer came upon the ratty tom's visage. "But if I knew becoming a rogue meant following the directions of a dung-face like you, I'd have stopped fantasizing a long time ago."
Graygaze charged up the incline to swipe at the coarse braggart and bring him down, but the seasoned warrior was unprepared for the extra strain on his legs. He'd been traveling and working non-stop since the flood. To sprint uphill in the deep snow was debilitating for his shot muscles. Graygaze was out of breath when he finally swung a paw at Curiosity, and while it didn't lack power the attack was easily dodgeable. Graygaze clenched his teeth in preparation for the counter that was sure to punish him.
