Many mornings had passed since Briarpaw had come to Cinderface for aid. The sickness had spread through the camp steadily. Although Cinderface felt confident in her skills, each day a new clan-mate was coming to her for relief. Briarpaw brought this to us. The healer sorted through her herbs once again, her blood broiling in her anger. She was the first to come to me. It did not matter to Cinderface that days before coughs had crept through the Clan. Briarpaw had been the first to seek aid. Therefore, Briarpaw was the one who brought this blight to their Clan. StarClan why did you lead her to me? She has been nothing but a disgrace to you and your chosen. Nothing made sense any more. In her frustration, Cinderface clung to her faith. I am not worthy to understand your plans. I am not worthy. Not. Worthy.
Make me worthy, oh StarClan.
How many times had Cinderface prayed those words? More times than she had sorted her herbs. Each leaf was examined, searched for any trace of mold or decay. Only when she was satisfied that the precious leaves were safe from blight would she move on to the next stack. The mottled she-cat worked diligently, consistently. Each day she examined her herbs. She knew exactly how many were in her possession. The medicine cat would ensure her Clan would have the best care. As long as they are worthy. The righteous she-cat's mind flip, not even aware of the hypocrisy she was living. Only those who have dedicated themselves to you, StarClan, will receiving healing from my paws. If you condemn them, then I do as well.
A cough echoed through the cave, signaling the arrival of a new cat. With stern hazel eyes, Cinderface turned to the entrance to see who came to her now.
