As the sun began its ascent, the light changed from the dark blue of midnight to the pale lavender of dawn. Then, as the tendrils of the sun broke over the horizon rays of glorious red and orange sliced across the sky. The dance of color and melody of awakening song birds was observed by a silent figure. Blue-gray fur smooth against his frame, and perceptive orange eyes staring endlessly into the distance. His face bore melancholic features, bored and flat. The cat could have been carved from stone, if it weren't for the twitching, kneading paws. Long white claws dug gently into the soft mud of the earth. The coming heat of the day pulled a haze of fog from the lake, hanging like a veil across the land. Fog that Hangs in Air watched quietly as the sun began its slow task of dissipating the low hanging clouds.
Once the flaming ball of heat rose fully from the horizon Fog turned and poked his head into the den behind him. Situated between the valley of a hill and shaded by bushes and the tall grass of the moor it was a simple den. The perfect bachelor's pad. Fog had claimed it some time ago, out growing the company of his sister Moth. Now, the blue tom was joined by another - his foster brother Hemlock. The black form lay curled in the nest. Fog heaved a sigh. "Hey! Hem, remember the deal. You better get to hunting while I collect the other to-bes." It took a few moments, and Fog's persistence, for the black lanky tom to stir and awaken. Confirming by the younger tom's bleary eyes that he was indeed awake and aware of the duty he was tasked with, Fog slipped away from the den to complete his own.
Fog traversed to the northern part of the island. Further from the rest of the dens, the young and rambunctious Amber lived with his family. Thanks to Iris Fog knew where to locate his charges for the day and soon the tree that Amber's family resided beside came into view. Trotting at a comfortable pace, Fog approached the den. The youngest to-be was soon dragged out by Fog with Amber's parents assistance. "Head for the tribe stone, Amber, I'm going to collect the others. Hemlock's suppose to have breakfast for everyone." Waiting long enough to see Amber start on his way, Fog turned south-east towards the eastern shore.
Soon the tall rocky shore where River made her home came into sight. The variegated strata of rocks formed a cave. There Fog entered the den of the third eldest to-be. Her den was filled with a plethora of colorful stones and sea-glass, the floor littered with the she-cat's artistic decorating. The she-cat lay curled in her nest, a patch of blue fur in a sea of red, gold, and silver rocks. Fog nudged the she-cat awake. "Come on, River, Hemlock will have breakfast at the Tribe Stone, I'll meet you there with the rest of the patrol." Again, after the she-cat began her trek to the tribe stone, Fog turned to his final destination - Blackbird's den.
Blackbird was already up and outside with her kits when Fog arrived. The stone-guard had no mate, the sire of her kits was Talon, the head stone-guard. It was outside of custom, but it wasn't unusual of an arrangement. "Good morning, Blackbird," Fog greeted the she-cat respectfully. "I've come for Song and Falcon." As the blue tom spoke the energetic form of Song burst from the den, accompanied by the limping Falcon. Fog's tail twitched, and he jerked towards the direction of tribe stone. "Hemlock is getting breakfast for us, we're meeting at the tribe-stone."
As the two siblings hurried off, Fog nodded in good bye to Blackbird. He noticed vibrant amber eyes peering from the entrance of the den. Primrose I think. He gave a slight nod to the quiet she-cat as well. She would not be on this patrol, for what reason was not Fog's concern. Turning, he bounded away from the den and quickly caught up to Song and Falcon. "Come on." His mouth remained closed to further conversation until the Tribe Stone came into view. There he saw the waiting figures of Amber and River. Where's Hem? With an irritated flick he turned to wait and observe his brother's coming. He knew the four younger to-be's were itching to know what they were doing today. "Once Hem get's here with food we'll eat and then head towards the western shore. One of the has-been's dens was damaged in the storm the other day and we're going to fix it." He case his orange gaze across the gathered cats. "And I'm in charge, so no messing around."
