HIDES in Shadows
Tribe of Floating Stones
red and white tabby with amber eyes
stone-guard
male
24 moons
Appearance
one, two, three, four, five, six, seven
Serpent is a rather bulky and muscular tom who carries himself with low self-confidence. He is broad-chested with a round, moon-shaped face that is splashed in both orange and white. A white dash sits on his brow that shades dark amber eyes complimented by a salmon pink nose.
The bicolour tom has a handful of orange mackarel tabby patches along his back, but the white spreads over the majority of his underside to just above his rib cage. His thick bottle brush tail is the same orange flecked at the tip in white. The rest of his coat is also quite thick to match the tail, though he would still only classify as medium haired when it comes to length.
Serpent stands at 11 inches and weighs 14lbs (when in peak physical condition).
Personality
withdrawn || hardworking || envious || bloodthirsty || rash || anxious
Despite the ferocity and mystique behind his name, Serpent is a rather withdrawn cat who values honesty and dilligence. A hardworking individual, even though his initial interest pushed his hopes towards a career outcome of prey-hunter, he throws himself into his work as a stone-guard with a penchant for overworking and under-sleeping. While he harbours envy for the prey-hunters, it is only for their duties rather than as individuals.
Devoutly committed to the customs of the tribe, Serpent has never drawn blood on another cat both allied or enemy. Against predators, however, he is ruthless when driving them out and usually will not allow the coyotes and foxes to escape with their lives. This bloodthirstiness is unbecoming to his usual demeanour and he does not share his methods with others outside of the stone-guard for fear of judgement. This preoccupation with killing predators that threaten his home often lands him and those with him in precarious situations and he struggles with the moderation of this risky behaviour.
Commitment to the tribe means that he is often nervous about breaking any rules, and he usually bends over backwards when around others to please them. This "yes-man" attitude could be seen as him not being a free-thinker, but he while he does form his own opinions he prefers to not rock the boat for the sake of balance and prosperity of the tribe. This is the attitude fostered from years of self-doubt at the hands of his father, where he found that the path of least resistance was the easiest way to avoid conflict.
This refusal to sitck to his own personal values and allowing himself to be swayed easily has put him at odds to the rest of his family.
After his journey to the stone, he has found his personal values changing once again as he struggles to figure out who he is at 24 moons.
History
Born just on the cusp of the death of Creek, his kithood was tumultuous with the changing of leadership as the tribe struggled without the guidance of their Teller. While his father was a stone-guard, his mother was a prey-hunter and as he aged along with his brothers and sisters, his father filled their heads with sexist propaganda about what path they should be aiming for once they were to begin their training.
Their father was a stoic man who swore his children to secrecy about their discussions. Serpent learned relatively quickly that he could not confide in his father about his true desires to become a prey-hunter lest he get cuffed around the ears. Due to the separation of their homes, it remained relatively easy for his father to get away with it, as the happy family made sure to put on smiles whenever gathered among the rest of the tribe. His mother wasn't even privvy to a lot of what went on while she was out hunting.
The day came when him and his siblings were inducted as to-bes and while the training was carried out between each of the clan cats, he found himself and his brothers under the tutelage of their father more days than not. As tensions began to grow around Fog's worthiness as leader, Serpent tried his best to lay low as he listened to the dissenting opinions of prey-hunters and stone-guards alike. It was during the absence of Fog that his father was quick to voice his approval and intention of supporting Sumac. Serpent didn't approve of the way in which Sumac's deception had been rippling beneath the surface under the nose of their Teller, and he found himself at odds with his father who roared at him once back in their own den.
On the night of the blood moon, Serpent fought alongside his brethren to try and drive off the coyotes and watched as his father was mauled and killed. Complicated feelings and his impressionability as a youth lead to him blaming himself for what had happened, and a bitterness grew in him towards Fog. This pushed him into the outstretched paws of Sumac and his followers where he found himself mourning a man who never treated him with love. His mother, still maintained her faith in Fog and their relationship has been on rocky ground ever since.
Receiving his name under Fog as a Stone-Guard fledgling, he found himself throwing himself into his work as he waited patiently for Sumac's rise. By this stage, most of his relationships with his siblings and mother had frayed and he found himself becoming more swept into Sumac's followers. When it finally came that Sumac had assumed power, the changes only came off to him as logical. It made sense the prey-hunters eat first so they can keep sustaining the tribe, but by that mark they had to be successful. Doting on Sumac, it did not take long until he began his own journey to the stone.
After his experience with the Tribe of Endless Life, he has found himself more withdrawn and becoming more aware of the atrocities that Sumac is putting his clan-mates through. The journey has caused a significant shift in his psyche and he is currently grappling with his sense of self that was restricted and warped at the paws of his father and Sumac.
