Rowanpath
redwoodclan
longhaired dark tabby tom with yellow eyes.
warrior
Tom
18 moons
Appearance
Rowanpath, like his prefix implies, is built like a tree; big, tall, and sturdy. In spite of that, he is as gentle as a summer breeze. He knows his strength and controls it very well, sometimes too well. His black-and-brown paws are furry and wide like a lynx's, which makes him especially stealthy and keeps him from sinking into the snow during leaf-bare. He is as agile as all felines are, but because of his size he prefers to hunt on the ground and has trained his senses accordingly. These combined traits and skills have made him out to be an excellent tracker, some might go so far as to say he is shaping up to be one of the best.
His black tabby double-coat is lengthy and thick, shielding him from harsh elements. It also hides a long scar across his left flank. It is especially longer around his neck, undersides, and tail. However, rather than appear bushy like some long coats do, as long as it was recently groomed it remains flat and sleek against his flanks. He has long, black tufts sprouting from the tips of his ears. Those hairs are very sensitive, picking up on the change of the direction of the wind - and even enhances his hearing by helping him pick up on the vibrations of sounds.
Rowanpath has a tall, thickly-furred face that could be described as rugged. Sharp angles and a powerfully large jaw protect the warm yellow eyes well-centered on his face. In spite of these tough features, his large, almond-shaped eyes are welcoming and warm - sometimes ablaze with passion, but rarely cold with unfeeling or hatred.

Personality
Rowanpath has a generous spirit; he would readily give someone the nest he sleeps in if they so needed it. He doesn't really discriminate against other Clans or outsiders, either; he sees everyone as an equal, rather than finding dividing lines to mean that they are too different from or lesser than him. He sees any cat as just that; a cat, like him, who has all the same needs, similar wants and desires, feels pain just like he does. He always gives everyone a chance, perhaps two or three, and isn't one to be selfish or closed off.
Of course, he always puts his Clan-mates and the well-being of his Clan before anything else. He knows, very well in fact, that while he can be equals with others, that doesn't always mean they are or should be his allies. He would never betray his Clan for a cat from another, unless he thought it was absolutely right. So, while he has a healthy respect for the warrior code, he is not afraid to question it on a case-by-case basis.
While it's true that he is a friendly and generous tom, he sometimes doesn't take a situation seriously enough. He is so light-hearted and it can be a bit difficult to get him to face the consequences of that. Some may even call him immature but, as time passes, he will eventually outgrow this aspect of his personality to become an opinionated warrior with unique ideals.
Rowanpath is often so selfless that he can neglect his own needs or desires. He doesn't usually think about 'what will I have if I give this away' until he gets there. If he offered someone else his nest, he didn't think about where he'd sleep if they took it. His focus was on making sure that other cat had what they needed. While this is very generous and unselfish, it is not necessarily a positive thing all the time. There may even be a time where he hurls himself into danger for another. He thinks so much about how others are equal to him, he doesn't fully realize that his life isn't worth putting on the line for another.

History
Rowankit, Ruekit, and Goldenkit were born during a dark time - for RedwoodClan. Leafbare gripped the island in its cold clutches, and in the same manner LichenClan sought to have its icy grip on RedwoodClan. The kits were born into war, hunger, and loss; their father dead before they were birthed and their mother accordingly brokenhearted. They were a light in the dark and, although that was true, it did not always feel like it to them.
Rowankit would listen to the way his mother, Tansytoes, retold the story about Goldenscale. How he had saved them from starvation and that, without him, they would not have their lives. Eventually, when the kits were old enough, Tansytoes took her litter out to meet the very tom she had told them so much about. There he stood, in all his glory, and Rowanpath still remembers what he looked like that day; strong, and caring. It was from that moment on, that Rowankit decided he would be like that. He wanted others to look at him and know they could rely on him, that he wouldn't hurt them no matter who they were. He didn't want to inflict the pain of the loss Tansytoes had felt after the death of their father on anyone, ever. He would rather be the one to take that pain away.
Of course, at such a young age he didn't fully understand the complex sentiments that would later make him who he is. Still, they were shaped by that experience and fueled by others.
Others such as the battle from the brothers' young apprenticeship. Rowanpaw had been there, too. He was barely made an apprentice when he was forced to defend himself and his Clan. He held his own as well as a fresh apprentice could, until his mentor came to his aid and shoved the LichenClan warrior off of him. That wasn't before he was left with a deep cut on his flank that would leave a scar. As Rowanpaw looked around the battlefield for his brothers, he watched a familiar warrior dodge past Ruepaw and leap into the churning lake to save Goldenpaw. Goldenscale had saved his brother, and Rowanpaw was filled with gratitude, with admiration.
He thought he understood after that, and a calm seemed to wash over him. In spite of the troubles with LichenClan, Rowanpaw thought that if he could just be a warrior like Goldenscale, then he could make a difference and lessen the suffering of the war. Shrewfur, his mentor, also instilled in him a strong belief that fighting for what was right, for the Clan and the Code, was part of being an honorable warrior. He learned that sometimes the right thing is the same thing for both sides, and sometimes it is very different - but that doesn't make those opposing warriors any less honorable.
Rowanpath is a decent opponent in battle now, a far cry from the scared apprentice without worldly knowledge. He fights with honor and sportsmanship, though does not feel that fighting is a good thing in a general sense; he would rather settle disputes verbally. He's an okay hunter, though he is not as fast as many others and prefers to ambush prey by using his sharper senses. He's an excellent tracker, especially thanks to Shrewfur's teachings, and relies heavily on those skills to outwit his prey - and even opponents, should there be an opportunity.
