GINGERFANG
REDWOODCLAN
stocky ginger and white tom with hazel eyes
warrior
tom
73 moons
Appearance
Gingerfang fits the mold of the classic Redwood cat perfectly. Though not long enough of leg to tower over other cats, he more than makes up for it in sheer bulk. Dense and muscular from a lifetime of training and fighting, he is more than willing to use his brawn to overpower threats.
A long, feathered coat does its level best to hide the myriad of petty scars that litter Gingerfang's skin. He looks much like his sister, with rich orange hues that melt down across his back and shoulders before giving way to white that sweeps across his throat, chest, and legs.
His face has a friendlier shape than his true disposition might allow, with wide, fluffy cheeks and tufted ears. A white chin leads to a sharp, angular snip of white on his nose, the only break in his otherwise-ginger face. Like much of the rest of his body, darker amber stripes slash through the orange base color, framing his cheeks and forehead handsomely. His eyes—ever watchful, always looking for a weakness—are a rich hazel that often appears more green than brown.

Personality
confident | brave | decisive | loud | rebellious | short-tempered | family-oriented | impulsive | resentful | playful
Gingerfang is, above all else, loyal to his clan and the ideals of the Redwood cats. He makes full use of his fearlessness and decisive nature when faced with defending his home and training the new generations of warriors. Though much of Mossclaw's rough training habits are still alive and well in Gingerfang, he has a softer spot for his younger comrades than his old mentor ever had.
Opinionated and unafraid to let his rebellious side show, Gingerfang has made it clear he holds no support in his heart for Finchstar and the way he runs the clan. He is hungry for blood, not only ready to go to war with Lichenclan but willing to end it decisively and permanently. To that end, he has shown strong support for Icesong and her willingness to train the warriors.
He is desperate still to fill the hole left by his father's betrayal and finds himself idolizing cats who fit, even haphazardly, into the mold. Because of this, he has a tendency towards blind loyalty and is often unwilling to look closer at the actions or motivations of a cat he admires.
The older he's gotten, the more staunchly he's adopted his pro-war stance. It was Lichenclan who tempted his father's wandering heart into being a traitor. It was the Tribe who brought sickness to them and, by proxy, stole his mother. As far as Gingerfang is concerned, both clans are immediate threats to the very lives of the Redwood cats. Unlike some of his clan, he thirsts for the war that looms at their doorstep.
History
mother: sycamoretail (deceased)
father: foxfire (deceased)
littermates: marigoldleap (sister) & woodfrost (brother)
mentor: mossclaw (deceased)
Kithood: Born from a relationship that seemed destined to fail, Gingerkit sought security and stability from an early age. Despite the increasing absence of his father—parenthood only served to tie Foxfire down—Gingerkit grew more and more attached to the idea of his father that he created in his mind. Aloof, yet charismatic, charming but still independent, Foxfire was everything that Gingerkit wanted to be. He vowed to be a powerful warrior, just like his father.
He was the loudest and most outgoing of his siblings, equally happy to play-fight with Woodkit or join Marigoldkit in her explorations. A rebellious streak—one that would only be fueled by later events in his life—began early and it wasn't uncommon for him to sneak away on adventures.
Adolescence: At six moons old, he was assigned a mentor: Mossclaw. The tough old tom had little humor for Gingerpaw and trained him mercilessly. It was this early brutality that solidified his fighting style: one where there are the winners and there are the dead. Despite Mossclaw's rough treatment, Gingerpaw looked up to his mentor and desperately strived to impress him.
It was during his adolescence that his mother revealed to her children the truth about Foxfire: he was a traitor who had disowned his children and his family. Gingerpaw was crushed. He turned more affection towards Mossclaw, but was rebuffed at every turn. Sadness beget anger and his penchant for rebellion only increased.
Though he threw himself headlong into his training, Mossclaw's acceptance was always just out of reach. Gingerpaw became more and more reckless, picking fights with peers and seniors, attacking foxes without a plan or backup, and consistently placing himself into more dangerous situations. All for the approval of a father—any father—who barely knew he existed.
Adulthood: Gingerfang finally earned his warrior name at fifteen moons, two moons after his siblings. He reveled in his new position, growing stronger and more capable—but more rebellious and opinionated—by the day. He and Woodfrost bonded through their hatred of Lichenclan.
Around their twentieth moon, Woodfrost and Marigoldleap got into a fight over their father. Though Gingerfang didn't know the exact circumstances, he was caught in the middle, and tried his best to play mediator between the now-estranged siblings. He continued to spend time with both of them, careful not to mention the other in their presence.
The death of his father only solidified the pit of betrayal that had carved itself into Gingerfang's heart. He did little in the way of mourning. What use was praying for a traitor, anyhow?
Finchstar's appointment to leader was a blow to Gingerfang's confidence in the clan. He saw Finchstar as weak and too-willing to allow Lichenclan to push him—and, by extension, the Redwoodclan—around in the name of peaceful negotiations.
When he was fifty-one moons old, his mother passed due to the green-cough that swept into the camp from the Tribe cats. Though he wasn't as close with his mother as Woodfrost had been, Gingerfang nevertheless sat during her vigil with his head held high, vowing to make the outsiders that destroyed his family pay.
As time passed and the tensions between Redwoodclan and Lichenclan grew, his distaste for Finchstar only deepened. In Gingerfang's eyes, their issues with Lichenclan should have been stomped out with force ages ago. He believed Finchstar's apparent weakness to be the antithesis of what Redwoodclan should stand for. He became increasingly supportive of Icesong after her appointment to deputy, seeing her as a much more fitting leader than Finchstar. He believed that the only reason she hadn't wholly eclipsed Finchstar was that she remained mired down by his softheartedness, unable to reach her true potential and thus bring about the true potential of the clan as a whole.
