By StarClan, it was cold! Maplebranch shook off his fur, the small snow-crusted mouse clamped between his jaws as he slipped back into the den that he shared with Lilypad, huffing. He had only ventured out of his den and into the tunnels to grab a mouse for him to share with Lilypad, and it was still a small one, given the circumstances. He was more than happy to let Lilypad have the majority of it.

No, the reason that Maplebranch was ticked off, outside of the harsh weather, was Yewthorn and his family. Again, ever since what had happened with Birchsong, the mink tom seemed to have it out for Maplebranch, yet Maplebranch had only been protecting Yewthorn's sister and neices! It was Birchsong's fault that this happened, but he didn't want to lay all of the blame on her. He knew that he should have protected Cedarkit more, and he'd never forgive himself for that - and he was sure that Yewthorn would never forgive him, either. Yet, every time that Yewthorn looked at him funny, or gave a remark... Maplebranch was going to snap one day. He hadn't felt such contempt towards someone since Fallowpool.

"Here." Maplebranch laid the mouse down in front of Lilypad, settling down besides her and pushing his nose into her shoulder fur in an attempt to warm it up, paws curled up under his chest. Yet, his muscles wouldn't relax and his tail tip was flicking backwards and forwards. He just couldn't relax, not with this on his mind.
