BADGERBARB
REDWOODCLAN
a vitiligo tom with light green eyes
warrior
tom
30 moonS
Appearance
Badgerbarb was named for his black and white coat, once upon a time. At the time, he only had a small amount of white on him but it was enough for his mother to gaze upon him and imagine the fierceness of the animal. As moons stretched and he turned into a warrior, the lack of pigmentation caused him to undergo a change. No longer was he a mere tuxedo cat. His splotches of white overtook him, causing the black to be little more than specks.
The top of his head and his ears are more black than white, with spots pronouncing it. His nose is pink and his eyes are a pale green. Other than physical features, the tom is a bit rigid and gives off the air of quiet dignity. His eyes are often narrowed in thought, the tip of his tail twitching irritably. He has little patience and it shows in his mood. Badgerbarb has a composed and mature stance, a bit stiff sometimes. His skills lay in tracking and hunting, yet he can handle himself in a fight. He is lean and of medium size, nothing to write home about.

Personality
REALISTIC/LOGICAL; there is always something to learn and improve on. Self-disciplined to the core. He is of a logical mindset. There has to be a reason for something, anything, and he will try to find out. Reason is something strong in the tom cat; he isn't content just being handed a half-assed excuse. As such, he does not really believe in StarClan. He needs proof of existence, evidence to know what is right and wrong. This goes in his favor, as he is very fair and gives others the chance to explain themselves before coming to a decision.
CARING; though he does not show it, Badgerbarb is a worrywart. He fumes inwardly when others he cares about get emotionally or physically hurt. He may neglect to actually show affection and comfort - he does not like to be emotional - toward the hurt individuals, but the concept is there. He tends to lash out in anger, becoming reckless and overwhelmed. He does not know how to process how he feels when his friends become hurt. Instead of comfort, he will keep it inside and give advice if asked. But he'd rather not speak because he may say something he'd regret. Naturally worried about other cats, he has a sympathetic mindset that is often clouded by negativity.
IMPATIENT; having little to no time to fool around, he takes his work as a warrior seriously. He follows his clan with dedicated loyalty, having respect for what the other cats believe in. He may just not agree with them, that's all. Many others believe Badgerbarb has no concept of fun and is a stick in the mud. He has quiet irritation toward many, to the point of just talking to the tom cat earns a roll of his eyes. He is less strict with his Clanmates, trying to awkwardly talk and carry a conversation but it is clear he is a listener and not a talker. He could easily be called grumpy, and hates to be bothered with pointless questions.
HIGH EXPECTATIONS; he expects perfection - maybe not for you but for himself. Badgerbarb is very hard on himself if he does not meet the expected standards he sets. Brooding and stoic, the tom cat is not easy to get along with. He is a workaholic and will work any apprentice under him to do their best. He does this because he believes in them; not out of cruelty. But he can be insensitive and his judgement can be clouded in favor of meeting goals. He is often the first one up to patrol, and will help with any task requested of him. Busy paws make a busy life, and he is uninterested in forming meaningless relationships. Any cat who is his friend has made it past his wall.

History
KITHOOD; Badgerkit was born to Tinycloud and Robinfur - two very loyal RedwoodClan cats. He could look back on his younger days and say nothing really happened. He had an uneventful few moons in the nursery, being bugged by his littermates. Badgerkit didn't really have the adventurous spirit that many kits had nor was he very close to his siblings. He preferred to be alone - no particular reason but that he was an introvert.
His mother, Tinycloud, thought there was something wrong with him but constantly check-ups by the medicine cat deemed him normal. Eventually, the medicine cat grew irritated with the queen's worries and flat out told her that her kit was just different. His siblings, Berrykit and Alderkit, were high energy. Badgerkit felt his mother had enough to deal with and tried to behave. It didn't stop him from experiencing excitement when at last he was made an apprentice. It was just a quiet, respectful sort of excitement.
APPRENTICESHIP; Given to Snaketail, a no-nonsense sort of tom cat, Badgerpaw was eager to begin his training. It was very clear the apprentice had a passion for learning. He would often ask why instead of doing what was requested of him right away. Snaketail had no patience to teach his apprentice these things, leading Badgerpaw to discover on his own. Sometimes he'd politely and quietly ask other cats, other times he made an assessment on his own. But he always learned something - it was the end result that mattered most.
During his eighth moon, however, his fur started to change. The white splotches on his coat became larger, until near the end of his apprenticeship he was almost fully white. He was horrified at first, and his mother dragged him to the medicine cat's den again. But once again, nothing was physically wrong with him. The medicine cat felt this was normal for him, that his fur turning white was just a gift from their ancestors. He should accept it, embrace it. For Badgerpaw, he didn't really care. The shock had faded and only his mother's annoying worry persisted.
Instead of confronting his mother on her constant quest to prove something was wrong with him, Badgerpaw took it out on others. Despite being a model apprentice, he was short with his fellow learners and didn't have the patience to deal with them. They were too... peppy. Too full of energy. They were like kits, without the name. He was annoyed with them, leading to some uncomfortable silences and claws being drawn. He said things that he meant, but it was abrasive and unkind. He earned a few nicknames, but before that... He earned unkindly ones due to his fur. Self-conscious about his appearance, he lashed back out. The others learned he could wield his words as a weapon just as much as his claws. He was not such a quiet young tom, RedwoodClan learned.
WARRIORHOOD; This would lead to his name. Badgerbarb for his sharp tongue. He expected to be called something common - Badgerclaw, Badgertail... anything like that. He did not stand out much, but someone must have been watching to give him -barb. His parents called out, along with Alderheart and Berrywhisker. He could say his siblings really didn't bother much with him as an apprentice, nor did they stick up for him when he was picked on. They kept to their own friend groups, leaving Badgerbarb alone to try and make ones on his own. He never seemed to get many constant friends, only acquaintances he knew by name. If he wanted to go hunting, he'd often go alone. If he wanted to eat a meal, he'd sit in the corner.
Badgerbarb never cared what others thought of him - save for teasing him for his looks. He is too busy worrying about being the best he could be for his clan. Nobody could question his work ethic nor his silent loyalty. He was there for RedwoodClan, yet was overlooked in favor of more vocal cats. His general impatience has made others wary should he ever be picked as a mentor. To this day, he has not and he does not know what to think about that. Relieved? Insulted? It's a bit of both.
As for his family, they couldn't be anything but dreadfully normal. Berrywhisker has become a queen, while Alderheart focuses on his skills as an excellent hunter for the clan. To his knowledge about his brother, the tom does not seem ready to settle down any time soon like their sister. Tinycloud and Robinfur have moved to senior warrior rank, yet if his mother wanted another litter... well, he wouldn't be surprised about that. She always did love having kits more than being a warrior.
As for Badgerbarb himself... well, he's just going at his own pace. He may be irritable and sharp tongued, but he does the best he can do. That's all anyone has asked of him.
