Squirreltail
ThistleClan
long haired black she-cat with white paws, chest and yellow eyes
warrior
she-cat
32 moons
Appearance
Like many long furred cats, Squirreltail’s build is deceptive to the eye. She is thin, narrow in the shoulder and hip and tall, long in leg and tail. But it’s difficult to see her wiry body behind her flowing fur unless it gets wet. Her paws are small and delicate which lends to her graceful, flowy stance. Her fur is fine in texture but thick and slightly curly or wavy in places such as her underside and the fringe of her cheeks. It sticks out in many different directions, gives her tail a feathery appearance and forms a sort of mane around her neck and chest.
When you hear the prefix “squirrel” you might think of a cat with a ginger pelt. But that’s not the case with Squirreltail. In color, she is predominantly back with white on her paws, chest, chin and a scant trace of it along her belly. Tufts shaded white sprout from her ears. Her whiskers are long and white to contrast with the black of her face. She was named for the rare black squirrels that her father would see from time to time in the forest. Memorable enough in their rarity that when Spiderlegs saw the fluffy black kit, it was the first thing that came to his mind.
Her almond shaped eyes are a clear, bright yellow and they bring an intelligent look to her slender face. Her chin and nose are delicate, her face thin to match her body. Her ears are relatively wide set, almost sitting to the side of her head instead of on top.

Personality
Smart/Outgoing/Vain/Selfish/Cunning
Squirreltail is a popular warrior, loudspoken and outgoing and generally easy to get along with. She always seems to know what to say to get her way and has been known to get a little grouchy when her whims are refused. She’s smart as a whip and able to quickly pick up on new ideas or situations. Her intelligence serves her well in most regards, but it does leave her quickly bored if she feels like she is not being properly challenged.
She thinks very highly of herself and this comes from being spoiled as a kit by her father. He had always told her that she would be able to do anything and you know what? He was right. Squirreltail is vain, she is cocky and she is selfish. She spends a lot of time carefully grooming her flowing coat to appear beautiful. She is more likely to do something if she can get something that she wants out of the deal. Likewise, if she doesn’t feel like she properly benefits from a task, she is resistant to taking part. Maybe not the strongest warrior in the forest, but Squirreltail fancies herself among the most skilled. If you ask her, she rarely has a failed hunt and if she did, you certainly wouldn’t catch her talking about it.
When she does fail, she doesn’t handle it well, becoming quickly embarrassed, defensive and angry towards any cat that would dare witness her be anything less than the best. She has no ambition to be leader or even deputy, rather, she just wants to be a warrior that can be counted among ThistleClan’s elite. She’s not above trickery to achieve such respect either, though she tries to be covert about it. She will slyly find excuses to get out of small tasks that don’t serve to further her standing in the Clan and has been known to talk her way into being part of patrols that she feels will be important.

History
Squirrelkit was born into ThistleClan as an only kit to two fairly respected warriors. But it was made no secret that her birth had been an accident, simply a result of a fling that neither parent was interested in pursuing further. Her mother, Mothstep, nursed her and ensured that she survived to eat solid foods, but it was really her father, Spiderlegs, that did most of her rearing. He named the fluffy kit Squirrelkit despite her black fur, telling her stories of the black squirrels he would occasionally see in the forest. As she grew bigger and closer to being an apprentice, her mother grew more distant, eventually moving back to the warriors den early once she was satisfied her daughter would be okay sleeping in a nest alone.
It was Spiderlegs that stuck around, teaching her little things about Clan life and the way of a warrior and Squirrelkit adored her father. This lead to a bit of conflict that the young cat didn’t quite understand and it revolved around her older half-sister, Thievingstreak. They shared a father, a father that was largely absent from the older siblings life while staying active with the younger. Squirrelkit couldn’t understand their strained relationship. Under the impression that siblings across all ages were supposed to be friendly, she was quite surprised to learn of her relation to Thievingstreak moons after her birth from some casual remark by her mother. Her sister never visited and seemed to want nothing to do with her. But Squirrelkit looked up to her nonetheless.
With much encouragement and coddling from Spiderlegs, Squirrelkit grew into a self-assured and cocky apprentice. This attitude only served to further alienate her from her sister, but she felt confident that she was likable enough to at least develop a positive relationship with Thievingstreak. But at least now that she had started her warrior training, she had something else to occupy her mind. That is, until she realized that her mentor didn’t challenge her enough. She knew that she was smart and strong and talented. With the right nurturing of her skills, she would make a great warrior and it was extremely frustrating to the apprentice that the warrior in charge of developing those skills in her didn’t seem quite up to the task.
Squirrelpaw excelled quickly, learned new skills almost right away and quickly grew bored with her lessons. Her mentor was too mild and soon, the black apprentice found herself seeking extra lessons elsewhere. Almost as soon as her sister’s apprentice, Slatestep, was made a warrior, Squirrelpaw saw her opportunity. Her older sister was a powerful and very well liked warrior. Not only did she feel she could learn a lot from the warrior, but if she could somehow show her sister how talented she was, maybe they could start to be friends.
Predictably, Thievingstreak resisted Squirrelpaw’s requests, but the stubborn apprentice refused to give up and eventually got her sister to accept. The extra training sessions with Thievingstreak left her muscles sore, her brain tired and instilled a feeling of accomplishment when they were over. That was something she never felt with her assigned mentor. And once Thievingstreak saw that Squirrelpaw was a sharp and dedicated apprentice, her attitude towards her young sister began to soften. Though they would never share the close bond some full blooded siblings enjoyed, Squirrelpaw was satisfied that Thievingstreak at least liked her now.
Over the course of her apprenticeship, Squirrelpaw lost both of her parents. Spiderlegs was mainly the source of Thievingstreak’s dislike for her in her youth and without his presence, she found it easier to get along with the older warrior. Shortly after becoming the warrior, Squirreltail, Thievingstreak was named deputy and, not long after that, leader. To this day, this serves as a point of pride to Squirreltail. She’s proud of her sister and thinks that she deserves the position, but there’s a certain amount of pride that can be taken from saying that you’re related to the powerful leader of ThistleClan.
