Midgestep's most notable attribute is his lacking height. He stands shorter than most LichenClan cats and is just as light. Still, despite his lacking mass, he is still able to withstand a fine amount of muscles on his legs, running and jumping being his strong suit. Midgestep is as black as night, having only a few speckles of white fur. His fur is short, thin, and sleek, shining in the sunlight. He boasts an intermediate build, lacking the angular features that his clan-mates share, but also avoiding cobbiness. His eyes are yellow and quite large compared to his face.

Personality
At your ear flies a midge. The buzz of it's flight fills your ears and no matter how many times you flick you move, the pest remains. Small, tiny, and tenacious; Midgestep's namesake. The petite black tom is just as determined to obtain anything his mind desires. Certainly not the flesh of his clan-mates, but if he craves fame, fortune, or even that pretty she-cat across the clearing, then he'd do anything in his power to reach it. The black tom utilizes charisma and charm to win the prizes he lusts after. He rarely sheds his jovial smile and optimistic attitude. His confident and enthusiastic nature is admirable and naturally leads cats to him. The tom's tenacity is also his downfall. He can easily become one-track minded and insanely stubborn when it comes to getting what he wants. Still, with his easy-going disposition, Midgestep's grasped glory within LichenClan. He's even acquired the love of his life--his milk dipped blossom, the star in his sky--Thornflower. The only thing left is true enlightenment. Midgestep is undoubtedly devout, soaking in the holy depths of the moon-cave often and passing on his religious knowledge in daily preaching. Yet, he knows that he can't be truly holy until he unites the clans under StarClan. He looks upon the island and see's tragedy, something he knows could be fixed if only every cat opened their heart to StarClan. Thus, the black feline is loyal to his clan and their position in the current war, only recently beginning to doubt all the blood-shed. Of course he knows that StarClan walked with him through life and will continue to stand by the clan.
History
As birch blossoms float into the nursery, the sun high and air dense with pollen, a family of blue cats gather around in apprehension. In the midst of the tension, a queen hollers in labor. Soon, 2 black kits are laying at the queen's side. Mintfur's gaze lingers over the identical kittens, her amber orbs glassy with love and affection. To her, there was nothing wrong with her beautiful angels, but when she looked upon her family their eyes were scornful and their demeanor disappointed. And... It seemed her father had escaped before he could even see the kits. Her sister Ivysong was the only one eager to voice her disgust. Not only were the kits a hideous black--blue being a preferred color in the family--but one of them were as tiny as a flea. Meek, and sickly--the very opposite of the kits Ivysong had birthed a moon prior. "You're betrayal will forever curse these kits."
Despite her family's scorn, Mintfur remained optimistic. She named the little ones Midgekit and Waspkit, and determined that she'd do her best to continue the family legacy, regardless of her 'curse' and 'betrayal.' Of course despite Mintfur's attempt to keep positive morale around her kits, Midgekit would always know that his father was a loner. He was half-clan, tiny, illegitimate, and this heavily weighed down on him throughout his kit-hood. He heard it all from his family. Every growl, snarl, snort, and hiss that came his way. The family legacy. He'd hear, knowing little about what that meant for him.
Life seemed to grow bleaker for the 3 moon kit when Mintfur disappeared one morning. Midgekit and Waspkit were left devastated, but their lives would change forever after being adopted by their aunt Ivysong. The dilute tortoiseshell was completely different from their mother. Mintfur had been a kind, cheerful molly whereas Ivysong was strict and calculating. She controlled everything her own kits did, Stonekit and Boulderkit already showing promise as they neared their apprentice ceremony.
The cold molly had exactly the same intentions for her nephews. While Waspkit didn't fare well under the teachings of their aunt, Midgekit flourished. His minuscule size and mixed blood quickly became an after thought, instead being replaced by the glory of StarClan and the duty of his family. For decades, his kin had fought intensely protecting the Mooncave. Bluefire, his great-great-great-great-great.... grandpa had been among the first to reject the sinners from the other clans from the holy depths. This was the duty of their family and Midgekit found solace in this. He'd fight for StarClan, and in turn, StarClan would fight for him. Yes, they were always by his side.
This mindset followed Midgepaw into apprentice-hood. The small black tom was determined to make cats look at him for his worth, and not his size. He trained hard under his mentor, always punctual, always hard-working. Knowing that StarClan had his back, Midgepaw had nothing to fear, and thus his confidence and tenacity grew. His devoutness and interest in StarClan certainly helped him climb social ranks as an apprentice, along with his growing skills as an agile asset on the battlefield.
While he prospered, his brother suffered during his training. Despite Midgepaw's constant attempts to show Wasp-paw the light, the larger black tom remained cynical. When they stood before Sagestar to earn their warrior names, Midgepaw took the name Midgestep proudly, but Wasppaw refused his name. His growl rang throughout camp. "I will not kill myself and others for your violent games!" The clearing let their anger be known, but Sagestar continued, naming the black tom Waspwing anyways. It was only a few days later that Waspwing was found dead after a RedwoodClan battle.
The loss had devastated the newly named Midgestep, not understanding why his brother had to die for soon. For a split moment the tom doubted the stars, but one night as he trekked out alone to deal with his thoughts, he noticed a bright light deep within the RedwoodClan forest. While the shape was definitely a cat, the figure still glowed in the dark. Her beauty was blinding and the disillusioned Midgestep was overwhelmed with her grace. But larger than the emotions he felt was the raw sorrow they shared. They came together in grieving and prayed together as one. The light was a molly named Thornflower and Midgestep never wanted to be without that light again.
The two's relationship blossomed and they were inseparable. Midgestep loved Thornflower and was extremely passionate about their relationship. So much so that one dusk after bloody battle, he took his love out to the shore where the sun could paint them in reds and oranges to show his passion. There, he confessed his love to the pale molly. Yet, they waited a few seasons before bringing life into the clan. Midgestep still had so much to learn and do, and he knew he'd definitely spend more time paying attention to the love of his life then his kits.
But then one leaf-fall, Thornflower grew pregnant and eventually gave birth to their two sons. Ashkit and Flintkit were all Midgestep could dream of, and were even approved by the likes of their aunt. Their pelts were just as blue as their ancestors, although Midgestep kind of wished they could have shared their mother's illuminating colors.
The couple did their best to raise the kits in the name of StarClan. They were promptly baptized and every night Midgestep shared holy tales of cats who had walked the lands before them. But even this wasn't enough to curb a kits curiosity. In his brood, he saw he and his brother. Flintpaw much reflected him in his youth while Ashpaw reflected his cynical brother, the same brother who had died far too early. Convinced that Ashpaw would have a similar fate, Midgestep went out of his way to get his son to acknowledge the light. His suspicion was only confirmed by Thornflower who had reported to him with tear soaked eyes one night that Ashpaw had spoken of his sins. The relationship between he and Ashpaw grew strained after the baptism that ensued that night. What had he done wrong?
As Ashpaw, later becoming Ashfrost, became more and more a stranger to the devout family, life continued. He continued to fight in the war for the mooncave, and still preaches every night to those who'll listen. Still, there is definitely a hole in his heart for Ashfrost and any cat who forsakes StarClan. More now than ever, Midgestep is trying to spread the light as much as he can. Not only does LichenClan need StarClan, but all the clans do.
