Fallenpaw had never jumped at her own name harder than she did at that very moment. It was as if lightning had struck a tree branch drifting right beside her ear. With an anticipated gulp the white she-cat padded up to her leader, eyes finding it hard to keep on the proud she-cat. Even as a soon to be warrior, she still found Thievingstar to be a little intimidating. No wonder Blazingpaw wasn't afraid of anything. He was dealing with the toughest cat in the Clan on a daily basis.
As Fallenpaw basked in the limelight of her moment, all the cats of ThistleClan collectively watching every hair on her pelt, she briefly found herself wondering if she would be a valuable full member of her Clan. The sudden rush of expectations and responsibilities was almost overwhelming as she contemplated her new role. Before Thievingstar even spoke a word, she was already ruining the excitement for herself. Breathing in deeply and exhaling softly, she cleared her mind like the wind brushing away fog. She couldn't get lost in negativity now. This was her shining moment. She had worked hard for this. She deserved this moment in time.
Although...Thievingstar did not necessarily comfort her doubts, making a sly comment on her challenging Cloudstep, or that's how Fallenpaw would have liked to word it. The remark pissed her off more than saddened her though, because Fallenpaw knew Cloudstep grew just as much as she did as they trained! She had to put up with him just as much as he did. But...even if Cloudstep was lacking more back bone than she would have liked, there isn't another cat she could think of that could have replaced his role better. He really was good to her. Maybe even the best. Without his patience and kindness, she would have never learned so fast.
Then her mood would sprout higher than the clouds above. Fallenfire's new name barely even registered until the echoes of her clanmates filled the air. My spirit...? Thievingstar named her for her spirit? Fallenfire had to force her baffled mouth shut. As high energy and prideful as she was, her spirit was the hardest thing to cater to. She felt as if her spirit was the least consistent thing about her, and she hated herself for it. She felt as if she had no control over feeling extremely ambitious or extremely unmotivated. Pride swelled up in her chest. If her own name wasn't enough proof and motivation for her to wrench herself out of her depression, nothing would. Her name now was a constant reminder of the cat she always wants to be. The cat she is.
And in case she didn't hear her name loud enough, Blazingpaw's voice sounded very distinctively through the chorus, uncharacteristic enthusiasm painting his chords. Fallenfire honestly didn't expect her old nemesis to be the loudest of them all. She couldn't help but collide with the sound as she found herself back in the calico tom's gaze, a gentle congratulations greeting her cheek. The white warrior forced the moment to extend, pushing her entire nose and cheek against his as a purr of gratitude rose in her chest. "Couldn't have done it without you pushing my limits," Fallenpaw giggled, then escaped the embrace with a lick to his cheek and a hushed, "Really, you've helped me more than you know."
Thunderpaw's name filtered through the murmurs now, granting his well deserved name of Thunderheart. The tom definitely was a different species of nice, that's for sure. It was actually unnerving how charming and nice he was. His brother though...what name would Blazingpaw get?
After Thievingstar decided to have a little fun with some mind games, Blazingstorm's fresh new name conjured into reality. He actually did it. With a cool name, too. His name bubbled up out of her throat, trying as hard as she could to match the volume he had produced calling her own name. And as Blazingstorm slipped back into her presence, she realized they were truly not enemies anymore. They were adults, partners, a team. The perfect team. They weren't kids bullying each other anymore, but comrades that strived for each others improvement. A new, unfamiliar warmth crept into her chest. Like a home she never knew, as she nodded to the calico warrior and took his side. With Blazingstorm and her new name, her spirit could never waver again.
