MOSSEYES
LICHENCLAN
Sleek, black warrior tom with green eyes
Warrior
Male
29 Moons
Appearance
Mosseyes is a sleek, medium-sized cat. His body is slightly longer than average and his legs are slightly shorter than average, but unless one is looking closely, his size and proportions just appear average. What makes him stand out is his shiny black pelt and his piercing green eyes -- which are, incidentally, what he gets his name from. His eyes are large for his face, like those of many Lichenclan cats. But where others in his clan tend to have pointy features, Mosseyes' face is short and flat.
Personality
- Resourceful. Mosseyes prides himself on his ingenuity and competence. He is able to accomplish nigh anything he puts his mind to, often involving the use of patience and creativity. But Mosseyes can also be scrappy and determined, depending on what the situation calls for. He enjoys intellectual challenges, mind games, and trying to keep three steps ahead of his opponent, but he is not afraid of a direct confrontation either. This dichotomy can be seen in his fighting style, in his hunting style, and even in his social interactions, as he will choose whatever strategy he thinks will get the job done.
- Even-tempered. Some could even call Mosseyes cold or calculating because of how well he keeps his emotions in check, almost never allowing them to play a role. He believes letting emotions "get the better of you" doesn't help in any situation. But don't let that fool you. Underneath the stony exterior, Mosseyes feels all his emotions just as intensely as anyone. And sometimes his eyes betray him even if his actions don't.
- Proud. Stand-off-ish is another way to describe the black tom. He chooses those he lets in carefully, and has a tendency to judge others harshly. He has an inflated sense of self-worth and his own abilities and holds others to a high standard. Of course, he does not think his expectations are anything other than completely reasonable and common sense.
- Cunning. Mosseyes is not above using deceit to help him achieve his goals. He has no problems bending rules, lying, manipulating, or otherwise playing dirty. But while he isn't trustworthy, he generally has no problem convincing others that he is. He can be quite charming when he wants to be -- when he's convinced someone else is worth it.

History
- DESCRIBE CHARACTER KITHOOD
Tigerpelt was a warrior, known for his loyalty and steadfastness. Shadestorm was a fierce warrior with a temper to match. They were both very devoted to Lichenclan and Starclan and fell madly in love with each other quickly. Tigerpelt admired Shadestorm's ferocity and devotion. Shadestorm appreciated how grounded Tigerpelt was. They seemed to complement each other perfectly. However, Tigerpelt ended up losing his life in a battle with Redwoodclan, leaving Shadestorm to raise their only kit alone.
Shadestorm did not know what to do with Mosskit. He seemed the complete opposite of herself. Where she was outspoken and ferocious, Mosskit was quiet and contemplative. Shadestorm knew Tigerpelt would have been the better parent to him, would have been able to understand him better, but Starclan had seen fit to take Tigerpelt and leave her to raise Mosskit. So Shadestorm did the best she could to teach Mosskit the importance of Starclan and raise him to revere Minnowstar and her cause.
While quiet, Mosskit was very curious and observant. He wanted to understand everything. He watched the growing tensions in Lichenclan as he grew, without understanding their meaning. While he was reserved and even shy, if he warmed up to a cat, the questions poured from him incessently. As he grew, so did his curiosity. Like most kits, he could not wait for his apprenticeship, when his learning could begin in earnest.
- DESCRIBE CHARACTER APPRENTICESHIP
Having Hemlockheart named as his mentor filled Mosspaw with pride. He had been chosen, had been deemed important, clever, and competent enough to have the deputy as his mentor. Nevermind that that was not at all the reason Hemlockheart had been chosen to mentor him, it fed his ego. Unfortunately, Mosspaw's delusions and expectations came crashing down quickly.
Mosspaw had heard of what Hemlockheart was like as a mentor, but somehow he had thought he was above it, that Hemlockheart's difficult, even cruel, challenges would be a piece of cake for him. That did not prove to be the case. Mosspaw felt helpless to change his situation as he consistently watched himself fail. The thought of what Hemlockheart must think of him, however, drove him forward. He was not incompetent. He just had to figure out the trick. There was always a trick to accomplishing any task, to making it easier and more achievable.
The apprentice barely slept, barely ate, barely interacted with anyone else, always lying awake at night, dissecting everything that had happened that day, every move, every decision, analyzing where and how he could have done better, imagining scenarios and how he would respond to them. And his hard work paid off. After a couple moons, the apprentice started to shine. No matter the task he was given, he would find a way to make it happen, much to his mentor's surprise, much to everyone's surprise.
- DESCRIBE CHARACTER WARRIOR STATUS
His success was not without its drawbacks, however. Mosseyes was no longer the wide-eyed curious kit he had once been. He grew cynical and cold. His experience left him with the philosophy that life was hard, that one could never let one's guard down, that one always had to be the quickest and the cleverest to survive. He had no patience for anything beyond that. The more the young warrior shone professionally, the more he withdrew socially and emotionally. Mosseyes was devoted to Lichenclan, excellence, and nothing else.
He took the ideals his mother had planted within him -- devotion to Starclan, loyalty to Lichenclan, ferocity; and the lessons he had learned from Hemlockheart -- perseverance in the face of hardship, planning for the worst, mistrust. With them, Mosseyes focused on what he could do for his clan, how he could best serve Minnowstar and Hemlockheart. And perhaps, one day, how he could, himself, rise through the ranks of Lichenclan to continue ensuring that those ideals would live on in future generations of Lichenclan warriors.
