Paws sinking into the soaking muck that lined the border, Sedgeshadow stared at what remained of LichenClan’s territory with unease clear in her eyes. Like ants, they all worked their way through the birches, for it was all they had. And every once in awhile, one would come sprinting across that imaginary line after prey, and dissociating was the only thing Sedgeshadow could do to keep herself from flipping out completely.
They were just massacring us a season ago, Sedgeshadow breathed through bared teeth. And now Finchstar, and even Icestar wants us to share land with murderers and- and zealots. she stammered to herself. I don’t think I want them all to die- her wide gaze drifted towards their more than swollen shores. They didn’t have a choice, but Why can’t they be like ThistleClan? Sure, the Bearstones reek now, but it’s better than savages practically invading our territory. How much could they have changed in such short of time?
Staring across the border lost in her thoughts, she couldn’t help but imagine her sister. Cats like her never change. Sedgeshadow knew, picturing Falconfire, and Saltwhisker, and other evil LichenClan cats. She refused to believe that Yarrowstar had truly had a change in pace, that was for sure. Seasons of seasons of war played in her head, her fur bristling at the image. And as footsteps erupted behind her, Sedgeshadow reacted as if she was still fighting on the battlefield.
With a frightened shriek, she kicked with her hind-legs and felt it connect with something solid. Frantically, she spun around and realized too late that it had been a clan-mate that she had attacked. Attacked for no reason!
”Ravenfeather!” Sedgeshadow yelped, crouching in embarrassment. Still, her worried gaze searched his form for the dent she had surely left.
Her form broiled and grew hot with shame until she forced an apology out. ”I’m sorry! I’m sorry! Are you okay?” And when the tom didn’t answer immediately, she found herself spiraling. ”Oh my forest I’m sorry. I nearly talkedmyselfintoapanicattackandi’m just so scared with Lichenclanandall and IknowIneed tobeready tofight and- but- i-” the molly broke off into pants.
