Newtblaze
redwoodclan
golden-brown tom with darker rosettes and green eyes
warrior
male
23 moons
Appearance
Newtblaze trained hard to become the warrior he is today, and anyone can see that just by looking at him. Though not as bulky or as large as some, he still encompasses the usual RedwoodClan physique. He's filled out since his youth. Much broader, more muscular and robust, he's taken to the life of a warrior well.
His fur has a striking appearance, dark and leopard-like. It's short, smooth, but also coarse and weather-resistant enough to see him through cold conditions [so long as they are not too harsh]. His colors have darkened with age and, whereas before his pelt was a honey-brown color, now it holds a more reddish hue. He's grown into his spots, which are almost symmetrical and very evenly distributed.
Newtblaze's head and facial features are round. Most especially his big, expressive eyes - which are a leafy green color. His ears are evenly set while his tapered muzzle is small and short. He has a hard expression, as though he is always intently focused on something. With maturity, his voice has changed a lot as well. No longer boyishly gentle, it's grown husky and deep.

Personality
Newtblaze is a philonist. He loves to learn, whether it's new things or more about things he already knows. He has a passion for and dedication to knowledge and training that could easily go unparalleled. He's a simple tom, though; he thrives most when he has steps to take to achieve a clear, envisioned goal. "Focus is the best distraction," he'll say. Otherwise, he tends to buckle under the pressure of impulsivity or ill-preparation.
There's only one thing he likes more than learning, and that is to share what he's learned with others. He'd make for a shoddy introvert, being that he is quite opinionated and unafraid to speak if he so wishes to. He's quick to be assertive and teacherly, if given the opportunity, and really enjoys enlightening others or giving them good tips. Anything to help someone else improve! At the moment, he is still young and doesn't know a whole lot about very much - but this side of him will shine more and more with experience.
However, he gets very discouraged when others are not always interested in what he has to tell them, or - heaven forbid - get annoyed by his efforts to help. In a broader sense, he's generally sensitive to harsh criticisms. So deadset on being successful in all he does, he takes it to heart whenever he falls short of the mark. He will usually make decisions based on these emotions in an attempt to fix things, which doesn't always work out. A lot of cats tell him that he tries too hard.
In light of all that, one would think that Newtblaze is a total goody-two-paws.. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, he's a bit of a rebel. Not as much as he was when he was young, but he still has that spark in him. The heart of this matter is that Newtblaze needs variety in his life, he needs new experiences and new things to put his focus on or else he gets restless. The last thing he wants is to be trapped in a mundane life full of routine and predictability. When he begins to feel that way, or as if he is at all being suppressed, he will do nothing but push back - hard. Punishment, restraint, or force succeeds only in making him depressed, bitter, and withdrawn.

History
Daisystorm and Batpelt were good mates, there was no question of that. The Clan was excited at the prospect of a strong litter from the couple but, when Daisystorm made the announcement, things soon went awry in their relationship. A rift formed. They seemed only to grow further and further apart. Batpelt was a distant mate and father until after the kits were born and grew a bit older, but they were too young to remember his absence.
Newtkit and Ravenkit, their mother had named them. Newtkit remembers his time in the nursery with his family fondly, especially the stories his mother would tell him and Ravenkit. Ravenkit liked tales about RedwoodClan. They were great and all, but Newtkit favored stories about the legendary clans - especially LeopardClan. He liked to think he looked like a leopard. He'd often say that he would one day be as big as them so that he could go join them.
As Newtkit grew older, he realized this dream was impossible. As a kit, it disappointed him, but he still had a wanderlust. He wanted to venture far outside the nursery, the camp, even the territory. Sometimes Ravenkit would tease him that he'd be breaking the rules and forced to pick ticks off of the elders. Newtkit would call his brother a scaredy-cat in turn.
They would pick fights with each other, especially since it seemed Ravenkit wanted to prove himself - and Newtkit was happy to have an outlet for his frustration. Occasionally things would get out of paw, and they'd have to be split up, but they never could stay mad at each other.
Newtkit would accompany Ravenkit in his endeavors to learn from apprentices or even warriors, trying to help convince them to teach them stuff. Sometimes it worked, and Newtkit really liked all of the things he learned. He discovered that he was really good at listening and remembering, if he focused.
When he was apprenticed, Newtpaw looked forward to learning survival skills and getting just that much more freedom... He pushed those limits, too. For that, there were consequences, but he found that many of them were more social than actual punishments. His mentor, the deputy at the time Redfox, had little patience for Newtpaw's unwillingness to fight, and neither did his brother Ravenpaw.
At first, Newtpaw was stubbornly set in his ways and felt like he needed to escape. But, being an apprentice, the warriors kept a good eye on him and caught him in the midst of many questionable decisions or antics. Eventually, Newtpaw realized that his brother and his mentor were right about a lot of things. He did his best to conform to the confines of his life while still being true to himself, and things gradually smoothed over.
He became a warrior not long after his brother, delayed only by a moon, he was given the name Newtblaze in honor of his passion and dedication - which did not go unnoticed in spite of everything else. From that day on, Newtblaze gave up his dreams of one day leaving the island and exploring the world.
He decided that his home was with his Clan and his family, and he owed it to them to be there. However, remaining true to himself, Newtblaze is a lot more independent than the average warrior and occasionally sets off alone to do his own thing.
