Appearance
am i the only one wishing life away?
Indigomist is a large molly, a trait shared with most Redwoodclan cats. She is more average height within the clan, but towers above those outside at about 12 inches (30.5 cm) at the shoulder. Her bone structure is delicate and she is surprisingly flexible. Yet she is still moderately muscular with long, strong legs that allow her to easily climb the trees of the territory. She usually weighs around 10 lbs (4.5 kg), on the lighter side for her size though her weight fluctuates depending on the time of year. Despite her size, she doesn't hold herself with confidence and is able to get around without drawing too many eyes to her.
Indigomist's long fur contributes to her largeness, blanketing her frame in a thick coat that is soft to the touch and wispy at the edges. She looks bulkier than she is due it being double-layered and water resistant. Thankfully, it thins out during the warmer moons so she won't overheat. Her tail is long and bushy and she has an especially thick ruff. It is often compared to the manes of the lions in elder's tales. She is frequently seen with a tangled, leaf-ridden, or otherwise disheveled coat simply due to the amount of things in the forest that like to get stuck in it.
Her body is mostly a deep, dark blue, but it is mottled through with dashes of cream tabby. The largest patch of cream is on her face, splitting it almost perfectly down the middle and spilling onto her left side. It can be hard to tell sometimes that she is in fact a tabby, because her classic swirls are so heavy and her long coat masks the expression. The characteristic lighter markings on her face and muzzle reveal it. Her fur lightens to a more silvery grey color at the ends and undersides, especially when it is longer. Because of this, she appears much paler during the winter. It is partially to her advantage, as it lets her blend in a touch easier with the snow. At first glance she may look like she lacks any white spotting, but there is a small flash of white in the center of her chest.
Indigomist has a face that looks quite broad due to her thickly furred ruff and wide muzzle. Her ears are pointed, medium in size, and have tufts at the tips. Her eyes are bright, frosty green color and set in large, slightly almond shaped sockets. Unlike many green-eyed cats whose eyes can appear yellow in other lights, hers stay piercingly minty. Her resting expression is one of perpetual surprise due to her owl-like eyes and softer features. Her nose is a dusty rose color and her whiskers are white.
Indigomist has a soft, quiet, low voice that doesn't especially sound like it should be coming out of such a large cat. She smells faintly of damp leaves and herbs, an earthy and subtly sweet scent. She moves with a light step, picking her feet up and stepping carefully— as if on eggshells. Her paws are large, good for walking on snow and gripping branches, and have tufts of longer fur between the toes. She doesn't appear to have any scars, though there are a couple small ones hidden in her heavy coat.

Personality
never caught up in the moment, busy begging the past to stay
+ empathetic, selfless, thoughtful
A truly empathetic and kind soul, Indigomist has no issue connecting with cats both inside and outside of her clan. She may not have been through what they have, but she will lend an ear and a shoulder all the same. Being especially in tune with the emotions of others, some may describe her as overly sensitive. Don't make the mistake of thinking her kindness is weakness.
Indigomist is considerate too, and possesses the selflessness important for any good warrior. Attentive to small details and a listener, she catches things that others may not in conversation and observation. She is careful about how she acts and does her best to not offend or upset others. She enjoys surprising her friends with little gifts, as she's good at remembering thoughtful things like that. Her generosity isn't always good, though, as she often forgets that she should take care of herself before others.
- fickle, distrusting, reserved
Indigomist is fickle, which is uncommon in her clan of steadfast and responsible warriors. She has trouble making decisions, is often noncommittal, and is not very quick to trust others. This results in fewer cats being confident to rely upon her, though her loyalty to her clan never wavers. Some may misinterpret her capriciousness as forgetfulness or meekness, but she has a strong a memory and personality as any. She is too naturally suspicious of others to be naive, and she often remembers too much— not not enough.
Though she is a friendly cat, Indigomist is very reserved. She doesn't interact very much in groups, seeming to lack much of the vigor of her clanmates. The fact that she thinks thoroughly before she acts contributes to her indecisiveness and shyer disposition. She is slow to speak and slow to reveal her feelings. However with enough encouragement and patience, she blossoms and can become more comfortable with revealing more of her true self.

History
memories painted with much brighter ink, they tell me i loved
Indigokit was born first in a litter of three, her pair of siblings following not long after her birth. She was named for her mostly blue coat, similar to the deep purplish-blue flowers of the blue false indigo plant. They were her parent's first litter, and her mother and father were overjoyed to have such lovely, healthy kittens. The relationship between them was a little rocky, mostly due to differing personalities and ideals between the two. They were determined to raise their children to be good Redwoodclanners together, not apart.
Their mother went back to warrior duties as soon as the kittens were old enough to not need constant looking after. She wasn't neglectful, she just really enjoyed her duties. She was still there to raise them, and the kittens never felt like she didn't care about them. Because of this the kits were more independent than their denmates— though their father would stick around the nursery whenever their mother wasn't there. The parents took shifts, and it was uncommon for the kits to see them together. Regardless, Indigokit was close with both her parents, and looked up to them immensely.
Her mother was candid and stalwart. She taught her children all about the war with Lichenclan and how they needed to grow up strong to bring Redwoodclan to victory. Her father was gentler than his mate, and emphasized on the peace that would hopefully return in their lifetimes, after the war. He encouraged them to do what they enjoyed doing with their lives, and to not build their lives around the conflict at the borders. Indigokit wanted to be like both of her parents, to this day she still struggles to find anything in herself similar to her mother's easy confidence.
As the eldest, Indigokit was expected by many to be the leader of the trio. In reality, one of her younger siblings took on that role. She would happily tag along on their adventures, but was never the instigator. She preferred to chat with her parents or listen to elder's stories rather than wrestle or try to sneak out of camp. She had a soft spot for climbing, and her siblings knew she could never turn down a race. Though it did mean they needed to be okay with defeat, as they were never able to beat her.
Their apprentice ceremonies came quickly, and Indigopaw was given a mentor that the leader hoped would encourage her confidence to bloom. It did, though she still kept to herself most often, she could be self-assured when required of her. She made a friend or two during her apprenticeship, one of those friends was a slightly older apprentice named Icepaw. Icepaw was a similar soul to Indigopaw at the start, but things started to shift not very far into their friendship.
Icepaw had never been loved the way her friend had, she didn't have the security of knowing she had parents and siblings who cared about her. Icepaw had to deal with teasing, while bullies knew they wouldn't get a reaction out of Indigopaw— and that she had family who had her back if they tried. Icepaw had always had something to prove whereas Indigopaw strove towards mediocrity to stay out of the limelight. Eventually they grew apart, Icepaw changed while Indigopaw stayed the same.
Icepaw's warrior ceremony was the last nail in the coffin of their friendship. Icesong was in a different circle now, and she didn't have time for Indigopaw anymore. It was okay, Indigopaw just hoped her old friend would find that thing she had always been looking for. Regardless of the friends she made, she was closest with her siblings. They knew how to get her to open up, and didn't mind her quieter nature. The biggest friend she made was her mentor, to this day she has a strong bond with them, and sees them as a third (or rather, fourth) parent of sorts.
Speaking of, her parents separated not long after their kits became apprentices. Some siblings took it better than others, it didn't upset Indigopaw very much. She knew they still loved her, and she knew both would be happier apart. They had already pretty much been separated, as she rarely saw them talk unless it was about or around Indigopaw and her siblings. It hadn't been a rough breakup, her parents were still amicable. If anything, they were more friendly now that they were no longer officially mates.
With her mentor's support, Indigopaw did well in all of the skills required. Though she tended to shy from sparring, she would become a well-rounded warrior nonetheless. She earned her warrior name, Indigomist, for her quickness and skill in stealth. Like mist, she slipped through your paws and could vanish in a moment. It was uncommon for a cat of her size to so light on her feet, enough for her to be named for it. She had a knack for disappearing in the forest, whether it be on solid ground or up in the trees. One could also argue that it suited her personality just as well.
Indigomist is an average warrior, getting along with her pawful of friends and doing the best she can for her clan. Her father fell for someone else not long after his children's naming ceremonies, and her father's new lover made the effort to be friendly to her and her siblings. She liked him, thinking he was kind and funny. Though her siblings, again, varied in levels of acceptance. Indigomist mostly cared that her father was happy being with him, and her mother seemed to like him whenever they met too.
She was happy with herself and where she was in her life, though she has always wanted to mentor an apprentice. And one day, have some kits and a mate of her own. She had had a couple crushes on both toms and mollies moons and moons ago, though she was never sure if they were actually real— and they never went anywhere. It was always something in the future, though a time has passed since she's earned her warrior name. Was she supposed to start thinking about that kind of stuff now? Many cats her age were settling down already, maybe she was...?
The latest cold season was enough to distract from all those questions. Many cats in the clan fell ill, her father included. He was one of the last to get sick, but that didn't stop it from taking his life. It was swift and over before Indigomist and her siblings got to say goodbye. The medicine cat had reassured them days before that he was strong and would make it through, and it wasn't safe for them to come into contact with a cat who was ill. He had declined so quickly, they had been too late.
Indigomist doesn't blame anyone, she just misses him. Depending on the day, grief is harder or easier to manage. Sometimes she forgets that he isn't around anymore, sometimes she misses him so much it hurts, sometimes it feels like he had never been here. It is comforting knowing that he is safe up in Starclan, there for her when it is her own time. Still, it doesn't take away the fact that he is no longer here with her now. She often thinks about the possible future peace that he never lived to see.
She's doing her best to support her siblings and her mother, as well as her step-father, as they are all dealing with the loss differently. In her effort to take care of them, she may forget that she has herself to look after too. The clan also had loss to deal with as a whole, the death of their loyal deputy, Redfox. Her replacement would be... Icesong.
Indigomist doesn't really recognize her friend anymore, though she is sure the Icesong she knew is still there, somewhere. Buried under layers of frost and snow, waiting to be uncovered or melted away.
