Songbird
Outsider
Small tortoiseshell tabby cat with olive eyes
na
agender (She/they)
20
Appearance
Small and delicate like a bird, Songbird is far from intimidating. They are cute and dainty, and it’s hard for others to guess their age. Their features tend to be soft and rounded. Despite being small, Songbird has strong leg muscles and is undeniably fast and can pack a good punch. Overall, Songbird is lean and narrow.
Songbird can easily be mistaken for a tabby. Despite that, they have hidden patches of orange mixed in with the black and brown. Their markings are intricate and look like a mosaic. The most distinct marking of theirs is a ring of white around their front right ankle. Apart from that, they hardly have any other white spots. Beneath the beautiful coat, Songbird has several burn scars. Most can be covered up by their fur, except for a large patch on their chest right above their heart.
Songbird has light olive green eyes. They are as soft as leaves and large and rounded. To most, they appear to have a perpetually curious gaze. Atop their nose is a small, heart-shaped pink nose that stands out amongst their dark fur.

Personality
Songbird is very kind-hearted. They are unable to leave someone in need, and Songbird offers their help whenever possible. Their nature has served them well while roaming streets and fields. Most loners just want a cat who will listen.
Songbird learns by observation and is adept at picking up on body language and other small details. Growing up, they primarily communicated with body language and had a knack for it. Due to their observational skills, they are also a fast learner and can easily pick up on new skills by observing alone.
Songbird doesn’t have many beliefs to stand for. They tend to go with the flow and often adapt to the ideas of others. With a convincing enough phrasing, Songbird is willing to believe just about anything. You could convince them murder was okay with the right charisma and a silver tongue. Songbird has never expressed their own opinions, and because of this, they falsely believe that they have none. In reality, Songbird does have a few strong beliefs but they never let them surface.
Songbird is naive and trusting. They think every cat has a good nature and refuses to accept otherwise. In their mind, even the worst of the worst have some reason behind their actions. Because of their trusting nature, Songbird is often taken advantage of. They will be used for labour with no pay and can easily become an emotional dumping zone.
History
Songbird was always an outsider. Born to two loners, they were named Sparrow and her brother was named Robin. They were the youngest and a small little scrap. With loners for parents, it was a gamble whether Sparrow would survive or not. But luck and a good flow of prey kept little Sparrow alive and their mother healthy enough to nurse.
Songbird’s first memories took place when they were well enough to play. They wrestled and rolled around with Robin, snuggled with their father and listened to the soothing songs of their mother. Any memory of their family is after that is blocked out. Songbird freezes at the sight of fire but doesn’t know why. What Songbird does remember is their mother carrying them away from something. Their brother and father disappeared in a flash of red, never to be seen again. A passing loner named Rabbit found the pair and took them in. Rabbit was an old and wise tom. He knew a bit about herbs, but despite his efforts, Songbird’s mother withered away.
After that, Songbird lived with Rabbit. The old tom never knew their name, simply saying “you” or comparing them to a little bird. Songbird picked up hunting and fighting from Rabbit. He never taught Songbird anything directly, but they were a fast learner and picked things up by watching him. Smart and skilled, Songbird quickly learned to understand Rabbit through body language alone, and since then few words were spoken between the two.
By the time the old man died, Songbird was left with the skills they needed to survive but completely nameless. After a few moons along, Songbird ended up settling on a name. It happened when they were out on a walk, a hansom tom chripped at them, trying to get their attention.
“Songbird,” he called. “Lil Songbird”
Those words stuck in their mind, and now whenever someone asks for a name they say “Songbird”. With the loss of Rabbit, Songbird has been wandering alone; looking for their wings.
