Hello Apostles!
I've started to feel like my writing style is pretty lackluster. As such, I've made it one of my goals this year to analyze writing and improve my work! I realized that outside of Warriors and a few other choice series...I haven't actually read many published books, so that's the first thing I'll change.
I'll be starting off with much of the required reading that I missed in middle and high, then go from there!
What will this thread be used for? Keeping track of and documenting thoughts/experiences with various books as I or others go through them.
What I'd like to study especially: - sensory language - describing environments with interest
Hopefully by the end it will make a difference!
- Feel free to post your own thoughts or opinions on whatever book you've read or are currently reading as well. It doesn't have to be a full-blown book review; just whatever you felt about it. Start a discussion! - - You can also leave book recommendations -
Currently Reading
Lord of the Flies Started Jan 11 *on hold until I can get a physical copy
Next Book: The Great Gatsby
Finished Books:
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Dropped Books:
- Pet SemataryI really wanted to like this one, but just couldn't get into it. If it takes over 50 pages for me to get invested and have something interesting happen, then I'm moving on.

Lord of the Flies Started: Jan 10 | Finished: ?
Interesting Sentences/Parts
- when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashed upwards with a witch-like cry -
Thoughts
- Ralph isn't a character easy to connect with, but I don't think that's the point in this story.
- Piggy is by far the most normal one here so far, but it's obvious that he'll have the toughest time.

Akura, this looks so fun! I love reading, and this year I want to try and be more reflective about my reading. I've found that most of the time, especially with fiction books, I just read and enjoy in the moment, but I want to be a little more critical so as to improve my writing as well! I haven't read Lord of the Flies, but I have read the Great Gatsby a few years ago. I found most of the characters unbearable in Gatsby. I need to re-read it to remember the writing style better. Anyway, I spend a lot of my time on good reads and am totally okay with sharing my profile on there if you want to check it out. link. I love goodreads as a way to track my reading and find new books. Currently I'm readying a massive chonk of a book The Rhythm of War[/a] by Brandon Sanderson. This is book four in his ongoing series. It's a huge series, but I love his writing style. The detail he puts into his world and descriptions really allows me to envision what it looks like.

moony, thanks for stopping by! Glad you like the idea. I definitely have a tendency to just ignore writing style and enjoy the story as well, though hopefully I can break out of that habit. I have to start using Goodreads more, it sounds like a such a good site to use! A year or two ago I briefly joined, but didn't stick with it like I should've. And I can understand if the characters in The Great Gatsby won't be the best; I've pretty much accepted the fact that I'll probably not like half the books on my list lol. I still have to read them eventually though! Who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised~ I looked it up and The Stormlight Archive sounds like a pretty cool series, I'll have to check it out when I'm ready for such a big undertaking!
