SOOTPAW
THISTLECLAN
a slender, silvery gray she-cat with green eyes
apprentice
female
6 moons
Appearance
STATURE —
On four small paws, Sootpaw stands tall yet unintimidating at an average height. Her shoulders are confident yet relaxed, chest always puffed. Lean muscle and angular bones jut out along her frame, highlighting her streamlined physique. This is most noticeable along her lithe form's femur and tibia, where her condensed fur tapers off. Despite being only a tad bit taller than some of her Clanmates, she makes up for this with her thin, flexible limbs, able to creep and maneuver quite easily around ThistleClan brush.
PELT —
Her fur is soft as cotton, despite its strong resistance to the bitter elements of the wild. Her silver sheen never breaks rank, leaving Sootpaw a solid gray from head to toe. Her ghostlike, sterling shade mends to the tall silhouettes of White Pine Forest. Verdant, leaf-green eyes camouflage easily between the thorns, branches, and vegetation of the shaded forest floor.
FACE —
Her misty emerald visionaries are always set on the future. Sootpaw's jade oculars sparkle with determination, acting as her pièce de résistance in terms of her beauty. They are framed by her dense, silver fur. Triangular, rounded, short haired ears curiously perk upright on either side of her skull as her default. Her round face and jawline are outlined by her short white whiskers. Her inky, jet-black nose sits just below her eyes like a button sewn against plush. The head that rests upon her shoulders hardly ever tears its gaze away from the horizon.

Personality
POSITIVE — curious, optimism
As all young cats are, Sootpaw is naturally curious. This allows her to easily adapt to new situations and retain new information. As a result, she tends to follow her intuition and just go with the flow. To satiate her endless exploration of the world, Sootpaw rejects no adventure too small or great. She loves to learn a lot, and as soon as she warms up to someone, she is more than happy to be a little chatterbox about her newest discovery. Somewhat carefree, she has no life goal or ambitious desires to become a leader or medicine cat; instead, she finds plenty of solace learning from nature itself.
However, her curiosity is also accompanied by her ever burning flame of optimism. Maybe she is blissfully unaware, or perhaps blindly ignorant? Either way, during hardship or crisis, Sootpaw is sure to be there for moral support. Likewise, she is reluctant to accept defeat, and even in the face of it she chooses to smile.
NEUTRAL — sensitive, conflict avoidant
When she isn't focused on her own ventures, Sootpaw is quite sensitive for a ThistleClanner. Obviously, she has her own banter specially reserved for her friends and family. She chooses to avoid possibly rubbing other cats the wrong way until she is familiar with their tolerance for friendly jabs now and then, even if they are from another Clan or reside outside the Clans entirely.
She is also very conflict avoidant, and tries to stay on others' good side as much as possible. She will also avoid combat at all costs. When engaged in a situation where she has no choice but to fight, her defensive strategy is to bob and weave until she can get away.
NEGATIVE — impulsive, self-centered
Still, the quality of fervent optimism that cannot be culled is not necessarily a good thing. Combined with her curiosity, this can make Sootpaw a tad bit impulsive sometimes. She is quick to rush into situations that she may be in over her head for, and sabotages herself in situations that simply wouldn't have gone south if she just kept her head in the game. She can seem quite ditsy sometimes, despite the fact she can situationally be quite knowledgeable. Why exactly she is like this might be a head scratcher for her more experienced Clanmates.
Speaking of head scratchers, for some odd reason, Sootpaw can also be quite self-centered. It is not out of malice, but more so out of always being stuck in her head—her own little world. Sootpaw is very individualistic in nature, and thus likes to do things her way on her terms. This, however, makes it extremely difficult to work with her peers as a team. She may deliberately go against what she is told simply to understand a concept and test her limits. This may lead to clashes with others, as her willingness to do her own thing makes it increasingly difficult for Clanmates to depend on her abilities. When called out on this, she becomes defensive. One of her biggest flaws may just be her unwillingness to admit to her faults.

History
KITHOOD
— Humble Beginnings
When her mother and father had gambled at having children, Sootkit's mother was reaching the point of no return—too old, too seasoned—to be able to have kits. Therefore, the pair had not expected healthy kits—much less two. Thus, their children were smothered with love and care, their aged parents able to keep an even temperament with them throughout their kithood. Her parents had known each other throughout apprenticehood and had only recently allowed friendship to flourish into romance, so they had plenty of warmth to offer their kits.
— Curiosity Piqued
Her father spent quality time with Sootkit and her sibling when he wasn't on patrol duty. He recognized the spark of youth in Sootkit's eyes, and set fire to it at an early age. Never did he treat her constant barrage of questions as annoying, but instead embraced them as an opportunity to nurture her curiosity.
Sootkit was a bit of a boring kitten. She didn't enjoy playing mossball in the nursery with her sibling, or playing pretend. Maybe she should have been, maybe selfishly she just hadn't paid her sibling any mind, but she had a hard time maintaining interest with her twin. Occasionally, she entertained her sibling's attention to give their mother a break, but most of the time she would go by herself to listen into conversations just out of earshot in camp to get a glimpse of what the outside world was like. Sootpaw never could say no to story time with the elders, either. And when her father would finally come home, she'd eagerly ask him about his latest conquests, eagerly eating up every exaggerated word fed to her.
APPRENTICEHOOD
— The End of One Story Marks the Beginning of Another
When Sootpaw and her sibling became apprentices, she was over the moon with joy. She couldn't wait to begin her training, and see all the mice, trees, and other sights her father had told her of. Her life had finally begun!
Yet the apprentice couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt for her mother, who struggled afterword to remain a warrior. Birthing and raising her offspring had sucked the last of her energy out of her. Despite otherwise being in good condition, she decided to retire to become an elder on account of her lacking energy. Her father tried to dissuade her mother, then later insisted he would join her as an elder. Her mother stood firm on her decision, and reassured them all she would be fine.
On account of this, Sootpaw can often be seen at her mother's den after patrols and training. She understood being unable to see the world for reasons out of one's own paws. Guilty from essentially robbing her mother's youth, she would do just as her father had done for Sootpaw when she was young. She recounts her life to her mother, hoping to brighten up her life everyday, and give her something to smile about.
Thus, Sootpaw's efforts to become a warrior are not only for herself, but for her mother to live vicariously through her as well. She never lets up her optimism, as doing so would mean letting her mother down as well.
