Flicker Snuffed
By Ash
Tribe of Floating Stones
Short, cream-coloured tabby tom with yellow eyes
prey-hunter
tom
20 moons
Appearance
Stature:
Though close to average in height, Flicker can't boast being a tall cat. Like many prey-hunters, he's on the shorter edge of the average scale, and not much of a fighter, at that! His body in general is rather compact, without much length in relation to height. Flicker does, however, boast a rather healthy physique. Compared to other cats, especially stone-guards, he hasn't built much muscle. Many could mistake him for being soft (and in many cases, they'd be right), though the strength he builds in his legs is just what would be expected for a cat of his rank. Though not as lithe as many cats would boast, he still has the advantage when it comes to speed and agility.
Pelt:
Flicker's coat is a soft, almost downy, short covering. It remains closely packed to his body and easy to care for... Though doesn't provide as much warmth in leaf-bare as he would like. The lack of plumage on the tom's tail makes it appear strangely thin. Flicker sports rather muted hues, a soft cream compared to the bright reds most of his family sports. The few splashes of white on his fur are very sparse (gracing his muzzle and the very tips of his belly fur and tail), leaving his classic tabby swirls on full display. The markings leave thick stripes on his legs and tail, as well as thin stripes on his face.
Face:
Flicker's face is round, with very little definition of the cheeks. His ears are average in size, though almost appear shorter than usual when coupled with his rounded face. He boasts a short, rounded muzzle that's average in size, with rounded, walnut-shaped and lemon yellow eyes. All around, Flicker doesn't look too intimidating at all, fittingly enough. His nose is a bright pink in colour and the tom wears nary a scrape or cut, another sign of his naivete.

Personality
Traits:
|| Felicific | Docile | Sociable | Playful | Protective ||
There's no greater philosophy to life than just being happy. Well... That's what Flicker would have you believe, at least. Flicker carries a contagious happiness about him for the most part, generally concerned with cheering up his peers and keeping himself happy. His general demeanour is often enough on its own to cheer a cat on a bad day up, not that he's too experienced with cheering up the notoriously apathetic or moody. Flicker isn't one to put up much of a fight for anything and he very rarely angers. As a result, he's easy to cooperate with and will often compromise in a plan or to an order if needed. He's even grateful to be led, in a way. Flicker can get along with practically anyone when he puts his mind to it, proudly the life of the party wherever he goes. He takes to strangers quickly and avoids being judgemental. Flicker's kept his playfulness since kithood and it shows, the tom quicker to friendly competition and playfighting than anything too serious. He often attempts to liven up his hunting sessions with games and banter, prone to skipping on the job due to his antics, at times. Regardless of his play, however, the tom has a fiercely protective side which comes into play with his family. Though Flicker is a rather flighty individual, cats and ideals he bonds with are clung to with ferocity. Flicker would do anything needed if his family was in danger, he has in the past, and if the time ever comes again, he'll be ready.
|| Naive | Softheaded | Complacent | Escapist | Fanciful ||
With his endless positivity comes a downside. Flicker is still very naive at the base of things, lacking true life experience and wisdom that comes with age. He tends to make rash decisions and not truly understand their impact, at least not until it's too late. He isn't known for intelligence on many fronts at all, not one to strategise or weigh the outcomes of his actions. His knowledge is often limited to the social world, and even then, he lacks a certain maturity. Being in his docile and softheaded state, Flicker is highly complacent. His complacency inhibits his growth and potential, the tom too comfortable in his current state to ever do much better. He's simply happy where he is, to the point of feeling as though change isn't necessary. All in all, one of the most defining factors of Flicker is his escapism. If he can run away from a problem, he will. He'll avoid problems he can't run from for as long as he can, in addition. Flicker would rather focus on distractions and flights of fancy than issues that plague him in the real world, indulging himself in the nicer parts of tribe life. He puts more stock into imagination than anything that can be achieved in the real world as a result, more inclined to think of unrealistic solutions to his problems rather than face them in a conventional and practical manner.
Goals:
Goals are simply trivialities to Flicker. They pass him moment by moment and tend to be sporadic. One of Flicker's only stable aims is to provide for his family by any means necessary.
Beliefs:
Flicker carries the beliefs of his brethren rather openly. He often treats the very nature all around him as an old friend, taking comfort in knowing that the loved ones he's lost are still present with him as the earth and air. He tends to express his spirituality in a rather uncommon matter, however, conversing with nature in a one-sided conversation day to day.

History
Kit:
Flicker's birth was nothing too special, as he recalls it. With an already extensive family that maintained their close-knitted living standards for generations, yet another introduction was simply to be expected. Flicker only had a pawful of siblings... Though at times, due to their merged families, it seemed as though he had far too many to count. Aunts and uncles, mother and father, sisters, brothers, grandparents, cousins... They were all just as involved in the young tom's life as each other, and the young tom could only assume he was simply a part of the collective. They were well-established prey-hunters in the tribe, the young tom already seeing his future right in front of him.
As a result, even as an imaginative kit, Flicker never felt special, nor did he truly stand out. With a perpetually busy family, the young tom was often overlooked by his parents and the older members of his family, though it didn't take long at all for Flicker to gain a knack for entertaining the young relatives he spent the majority of his youth with. To them, at least, he was the one who made up the best games, who could crack the funniest jokes... He even had the humorous gall to talk back at the has-beens in their family, leading to his eventual reputation for being quite the turbulent kit. Nonetheless... That was often all he was, or all he felt like. Aside from the source of entertainment for his peers and the rambunctious troublemaker, he was simply one of their kin.
To-Be:
Being inducted to the tribe was an eye-opening experience for Flicker; the young tom considering it his first chance to spread his wings and be free from the structuring of his family. Of course... This was all too fanciful a notion. Though he appreciated his new-found freedom and the many cats from many other families he'd met, he and his relatives were still expected to live with the family, to train with the family, as well. Though it was tradition to be trained in both paths for the coming future, the majority of Flicker's training was taken within his prey-hunter family. This led the few sessions of time he was allowed to spend with the stone-guards for island upkeep and battle training being his favourite moments.
Flicker bonded with a wide variety of up and coming tribe members in the duration of this training, though a particular she-cat, a talented to-be who was well on her way to becoming a stone-guard, caught his eye. She seemed somewhat quiet at the time, one of the surprisingly reserved cats he'd met out of the many others who mirrored his upbeat persona. Though she didn't talk a lot and avoided the limelight, she would always laugh at his jokes and dawdle about him during their training. The two would often use any excuse they could to be paired together for tasks, and it wasn't long before Flicker began neglecting his family duties to meet up with the she-cat for their now usual walks. Despite the chewing-out he'd received, the young tom always found a way to meet with her, be it having to sneak out at dusk or having a family member of his take his duties temporarily.
Prey-Hunter:
As if it weren't already obvious to the cats who had known the two when they were still training, Flicker and the now stone-guard's relationship blossomed into a ridiculously sanguine romance that became increasingly difficult to watch. His family's reception to this outcome was mixed, with the tom's siblings and younger relatives being congratulatory to him, while his older relatives showed dismay with this decision. Traditionally, they'd always be prey-hunters... what was to become of their kits? The family? It was assumed that, begrudgingly, the stone-guard would be accepted into their family, though there was no doubt that Flicker and his mate were steadily becoming pariahs within the family's ranks.
As if social stressors weren't enough to put strain on the family, the spreading illness had finally come too close to home. While Flicker still tentatively remained amongst his family's dens, symptoms first arose in the has-beens that had watched over their family for generations. Unease was already spreading amongst them, though they'd always remained in solidarity. Flicker, however, was beginning to question just how close he could remain to his family. There were many things Flicker hadn't shared, things that he knew his family would only rant and rave at him over... Most importantly being the state of his partner. His mate was expecting much earlier than usual, the two still inexperienced, though willing to make things work. They wanted a family of their own, though now...
The sickness only spread from there, the stubborn ranks of Flicker's family growing sicker still as they banded together, already grieving the losses of their older family members. There was no way Flicker could remain... Not for their kits, not for his new family's safety. With a heavy heart, Flicker met with his mate in the night and the two stole away, separating from the tribe for safety and taking care of each other as they made their own den in the farther reaches of the small island.
It was there their kits were raised, where Flicker hunted for them and his mate protected them, where they were partially secluded from the main reaches of the tribe. Flicker tried to ignore his nagging betrayal as best he could, somewhat eager yet dreading the moment in which he returned to the tribe fully. He vowed to do so once their kits had become to-bes, the tom not quite sure to expect of his family. They'd be upset, perhaps not even accept him back... If they still remained.
Flicker took his two sons to the tribe himself when it was time, announcing that he and his mate would be making their return. The response was even further negative. A large swathe of the tom's family had been lost in his absence, the remnants of them unable to look him in the eye. His lack of participation left him under scrutiny from the tribe, and Flicker has been struggling to regain their approval since.
