| T he sun had reached its apex. From now it would begin its slow decent to the horizon, only to retrace its path the next morning. Eaglefang's sage eyes stared at the sky, watching lazy cotton clouds float across the sun, dappling the ground in moving shade. With an irritable flick of his tail, he cast his gaze behind him, peering at his brother who was trailing behind. Patience, Eaglefang, you're on patrol, just do your job. Firfoot had sent the two brothers to scout the border between ThistleClan and the northern cliffs. It was a task meant for speed and stealth. The two brothers weren't meant to engage with any rouges they saw, only to observe and report any changes. It was just life poking fun at Eaglefang that he was paired with Beetlenose, a trial he would have to accept for now.
Beetlenose pulled alongside Eaglefang, and the Bengal tom nodded in his intended direction. "Pay attention, Beetlenose, we don't know if any rogues are out there," He didn't wait for his brother's response, merely began his trek along the border once again.
His eyes were constantly scanning the horizon. He didn't not cross the invisible barrier between rouge and ThistleClan territory. Eaglefang skirted along beside it, staying close to the underbrush of the pine forest's edge. His maw was cracked open, breathing in the scents around him, alert for any signs of rogues crossing the border or being nearby.
He paused as he came to the section of the border where the old campground was faintly visible in the distance. That's where many of them make their homes. Eaglefang observed, he turned to Beetlenose "See anything suspicious?" Eaglefang would keep things related to the task at hand. He wasn't here to make friends with his weakling brother. Let Mistflower attend to his simple needs. The spotted tom had decided when the pale she-cat had begun to spend time with his foolish brother.

Beetlenose Thistleclan my philosophy is: if you can't have fun, there's no sense in doing it-Paul WAlker Beetlenose had inwardly groaned when Firfoot had assign him to work a patrol with Eaglefang. Not for the fact that he was going out scouting in a sense, but the fact that he had to go out with his straight faced, boring, no sense of humor brother. But he didn't argue. He knew better than to do that. So with a quick nod and a brisk farewell to Mistflower he shot after his brother into the Thistleclan territory. Eaglefang had been keeping a steady pace and while the black and gold ton didn't mind, he wondered at times if they kept this pace if they would miss something important. So ever now and again he would drop behind, double checking a thicker patch of brush or stare as a moving set of fern until Eaglefang would bark at him to keep up. Beetlenose would just roll his eyes and trot to catch up. This was a normal until they neared the old camp grounds and Beetlenose felt the fur on his neck raise some. This is where the attack on Thievingstar had happened. Following his brother's lead Beetlenose scented the air and looked around. The scent of Rouge was there but very faint and far off. "See no," he replied quietly, "But it doesn't seem as if the rogues have traveled this way in a bit. Kind of a shame. I wouldn't mind digging my claws into one."
He was rather taken aback by his own aggression toward the outsiders, but they had hurt his leader, several warriors and his friend. He couldn't just stand by and act like they weren't a threat. Feeling his brothers eyes on him he looked at him and frowned. "What are you staring at?" he asked and tilted his head. "Am I not allowed to show aggression or something? You and dad aren't the only ones in the family who can be serious you know." He flicked his tail and moved on past his brother a bit, the fur on his neck still raised. He hated the way his brother acted, seeming like he was the only one who could be serious and in charge. Beetlenose could be serious too, but what was the fun in it? He enjoyed making people smile, even if it was at his own embarrassment. Sometimes happiness and laughter was exactly what the darker mood cats of Thistleclan needed.

| H is pale green eyes stared out at the arid land before them. Weedy grass, and some scraggy trees broke up the landscape. Here and there evidence of shifting land and cliffs presented themselves to the eyes, and then in the distance the shadowed form of the strange two-leg huts. They had long been abandoned, left empty even before Eaglefang had been a thought in his parents minds. He felt Beetlenose beside him, and then his brother responded to his query. Beetlenose's observations were correct. While the ThistleClan scent markers were strong, the scent of outsider was -
Wait, what? Eaglefang's gaze tore over to Beetlenose. His softhearted brother had said what? He, the distracted, bumbling, kind idiot of a warrior Eanglefang had to call brother, actually condoned doing violence? Eaglefang's brow raised, unable to hide how those words impressed him, even if only for a moment. When the charcoal Bengal noticed Eaglefang's stare, he defended himself and the impressive moment was lost. Eaglefang snorted, turning his sight back to the outskirts that the rogues controlled. "Please, as if words are all it takes to be serious and aggressive." Eaglefang heaved a sigh of annoyance and then shoulder his way across the border. "Want to be serious? Let's find out how close the rogues have been getting."
Eaglefang stared at Beetlenose, his look taunting. Think you're brave enough to push the boundaries and find the rogues? Oh, Eaglefang wouldn't barge in on the rogue's hideouts. He was smart enough to know invading the enemies home territory was a fatal mistake. But, if Beetlenose felt he could be serious and aggressive, then perhaps they could locate how close the rogues were keeping to the border.
