Redpaw
lichenclan
long-haired orange tabby tom with green eyes
warrior
Tom
18 moons
Appearance
Don't let your eyes deceive you. Redpaw may look like a large cat, but he's actually quite slim in build and musculature. His legs aren't particularly long, his shoulders not particularly wide. What he lacks in actual heft, he makes up for in fluff. His long, glossy fur makes him look bigger than he actually is which plays to his advantage when his enemies size him up. His paws sport long tufts of fur between his toes and there are also small tufts of hair at the tips of his ears. His pelt is long, but not especially thick, as is the usual for his Clan. Even though he shares the common LichenClan trait of somewhat water resistant fur, he still prefers not to get his shaggy pelt too wet if he can help it. If it wasn't obvious by just hearing his name, Redpaw's fur is a rusty reddish-orange color with darker tabby stripes throughout. He is a bit lighter in color on his underside, but has no spots or patches of white. The skin on his nose and paw pads is a dark burnt kind of pink. Redpaw's eyes are notably on the large side which helps him see in the dark sea caves, but also gives him an appearance of doe-like innocence. They are green and so sit starkly against the orange fur of his face.

Personality
Redpaw is a cat of few words. He is a cat that enjoys quiet observation and, sometimes, even eavesdropping. His ears are always listening. He always tries to hide his fear behind a brave mask and doesn't like to share his worries with any cat for fear of worrying them as well. He tries to be steadfast, stoic and mature, but he is still young and can't always keep his youthful energy in check. He is a laidback young cat. It takes a lot of prodding to get under his skin and most things he find too superficial to really bother him.
Redpaw is very protective of his brother, Peeperpaw. He made a vow to himself after Peeperpaw almost died and they lost their mother and sister, that he would never let anything bad happen. He would not hesitate to put his brothers safety and wellbeing ahead of his own and he knows this for a fact even though he hasn't had to test that devotion yet. Redpaw is heavily spiritual, something he was taught from a very young age, but lately has been struggling with his faith. He believes that StarClan is good and does everything for a reason. But when his mother and sister got sick and died, Redpaw began to doubt. He is still pushing himself to maintain his faith, but he just can't see a reason for that to have happened. They saved Peeperpaw, Redpaw believes, due to his prayers so they must be there and they must be listening, but are they really as powerful as some of the older LichenClan cats believe?

History
[From Peeperpaw's shared history][Pheasantclaw and Cranestream had a patient kind of love -- the kind that came with pawfuls of commitment and time. Pheasantclaw enjoyed working herself half to death, and kept her paws full from dawn to dusk; Cranestream was diligent, but in the absence of work to do he’d be the first to take a nap. Despite the different lifestyles they led, it was to each other’s side they’d return to as soon as the moon peeked over the clouds; and in their nest the lovebirds would chatter until the night was no longer young.
Becoming pregnant and having kits was the last thing on Pheasantclaw’s mind, and she was not thrilled when Cinderface broke the news. She would’ve hunted and patrolled until the very day she went into labor - but her weakened immune system thought otherwise. Not even a moon into her pregnancy, she fell ill with a cough that circled ‘round camp. It was only at Cranestream’s insistence that she even gave resting a second thought, and only with a lashing tail that she accepted her fate.]
By the time Redkit, his brother Peeperkit and sister, Molekit, were born, Pheasantclaw was itching to be back in the forest. The first moon of life, the little family was inseparable and Redkit liked it that way. He couldn't imagine ever being without either of his parents or siblings because he never really had to be. As he started getting older, though, his mother began spending more and more time going out on patrols or hunts or whatever task she could volunteer herself for, leaving the litter in Cranestream's capable care. Not that Redpaw minded this. He loved his father and very much enjoyed playing games, but as time went on, he found himself wishing that Pheasantclaw was around more often. To her credit, she never made Redkit feel like she resented having kits and being stuck in the nursery, it was just clear that she had other places she wanted to be.
Being the largest of the litter, Redkit grew strong and healthy while his littermates lagged behind a bit. It didn't help that Pheasantclaw with her weak health would bring back minor coughs and illnesses to Peeperkit and Molekit. When Pheasantclaw returned with whitecough, Redkit's littermates were deeply sick with it before any cat knew what was going on. Somehow the sickness passed over Redkit and he was left to sit outside the medicine den at his father's side. Both toms would sit for as long as their Clanmates would tolerate it, still as statues, faces tight with worry as they waited for news on their loved ones. Then the terrible news. Molekit's whitecough had progressed to greencough that her little body simply couldn't handle and she joined StarClan with Pheasantclaw close behind. Redkit was absolutely devastated. He'd always assumed he would be able to spend more time with his mother when he was an apprentice and could go out into the forest with her. He never once imagined she would be taken away from him. And to lose his precious sister as well was almost more than the little tom could bear. All he and Cranestream had left was Peeperkit and Redkit sat vigil outside the medicine den day and night, praying to StarClan to spare his little brother. If they would just let him live, Redkit promised he would do anything in his power to make it up to StarClan.
And, gradually, Peeperkit recovered. Redkit was overjoyed to have his brother back and from then on, he rarely left his side. He took it upon himself to protect Peeperkit from anything that might threaten him. He wouldn't come so close to losing his brother again. Now, as an apprentice, he is having to adjust to the fact that he and his brother will have to be apart sometimes, but he is still determined to protect him from all harm.
